Abstract

In Modern Turkish Literature, expressing the importance of loving Turkish language with the nationalistic feelings, protecting it with all aspects and using it as a symbol of nationality, Turkish poets, Turkish language lovers, who write poems with a theme on the richness, the beauty and the elegance of Turkish language and its rhythm in terms of sounds, forms and musicality as well as its aesthethics of expressions appreaciated Turkish language – waved the flag of language-in their poems. Mehmet Emin Yurdakul, Ziya Gökalp, Kâzım Nâmi Duru, Ziya Osman Saba, Rıfat Ilgaz, Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Fazıl Hüsnü Dağlarca, Ali Yüce, Cemal Süreya ve Mehmet Kıyat are the poets who intensely praised Turkish language with their poems. This study aims to mirror the importance given to Turkish language by Turkish poets and their efforts to raise conciousness of Turkish nationality and to ingratiate and to protect Turkish language through their poems. In the paper, the poem “Türkçe Katında Yaşamak” (“To live at Turkish level”) is predominantly resolved in terms of language conciousness it strives to give. © 2018 Hacettepe University 1.
