Bride-Mother Relations in the Context of Family Sociology: the Case of Van City Center

Abstract

Aile, tarihsel süreç içerisinde hemen her toplumda farklı formlarda var olan ve ekonomik, eğitim, inanç, sosyalleşme, biyolojik ihtiyaçlar gibi maddi ve manevi tüm yaşamsal ihtiyaçları içinde barındıran sosyal bir kurumdur. Birincil ilişkilerin en sık görüldüğü aile, toplumun en küçük yapı taşıdır ve toplumsal bir sözleşme olan evlilik akdi ile aile kurumu bireyler arasında oluşturulmuştur. Toplumsal bir sözleşme niteliğine sahip olan evlilik, aile birlikteliğini yasal hale getirerek yeni doğacak bir aile yapısının temelini oluşturur ve sürekliliğini sağlar. Evlilik ile yeni doğan aile yapısı bireylerin toplumsal olarak yeni roller edinmesinde büyük bir etkiye sahiptir. Böylelikle evlilik kadın ve erkek arasında sınırlandırılamayıp birçok farklı rollerdeki aktörleri de evlilik sürecine dâhil etmiştir. Bu roller gelin, görümce, elti, kayın, kayınbaba, kaynana gibi toplumsal tipler olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Evlilik yoluyla edinilen bu rol ve sorumluluklar aynı hitap şekilleri altında nesilden nesle transfer olurken yöreden yöreye, gelenekten geleneğe göre değişen sorumluluk ve beklentilerle farklılık gösterebilir. Geleneksel ve moderni içinde barındıran sosyolojik bir dokuya sahip olan Van Kent merkezinde, geleneksel ve modern ikileminin açık bir şekilde gözlemlenebileceği ilişki 'gelin-kaynana' ilişkisidir. Bu çalışma ile Van Kent merkezinde yaşayan 'gelin-kaynana' rollerine sahip bireylerin edindikleri rolleri, birbirlerine yönelik algılarını, tutumlarını ve kuşaklar arası yaşanan değişimleri aile içi ilişkiler kapsamında açıklamayı amaçlamaktadır. Nitel araştırma yaklaşımıyla yürütülen bu araştırmada gelin ve kaynana rollerine sahip kişilerin birbirlerini sahip oldukları roller üzerinden nasıl yorumladıkları, aile içi ilişkilerine nasıl yansıdığı ve bu rollerden toplumsal olarak beklentilerin zaman içerisinde nasıl değişim gösterdiği betimsel olarak analiz edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Anahtar Kelimeler: Van, Gelin, Kaynana, Aile, Evlilik.The family is a social institution that exists in different forms in almost every society in the historical process and contains all the material and spiritual vital needs such as economic, education, faith, socialization, biological needs. The family, where primary relationships are most common, is the smallest building block of society, and with the marriage contract, which is a social contract, the family institution dec formed between individuals. Marriage, which has the nature of a social contract, forms the basis of a new-born family structure by making family union legal and ensures its continuity. Marriage and the newly-born family structure have a great influence on the acquisition of new roles by individuals socially. Thus, marriage could not be limited between men and women dec but also involved actors in many different roles in the marriage process. These roles come across as social types such as bride, groom, elti, mother-in-law, father-in-law, mother-in-law. These roles and responsibilities acquired through marriage are transferred from generation to generation under the same forms of address, while they may differ from region to region with responsibilities and expectations that vary from tradition to tradition. In the Van City center, which has a sociological structure that includes traditional and modern, the relationship between which the traditional and modern dilemma can be clearly observed is the 'bride-mother-in-law' relationship. Dec this study, it aims to explain the roles acquired by individuals with 'bride-mother-in-law' roles living in Van City center, their perceptions, attitudes towards each other and the changes experienced between generations within the scope of family relations. In this research conducted with a qualitative research approach, it was tried to analyze how people with bride and mother-in-law roles interpret each other through the roles they have, how they reflect on their domestic relationships, and how expectations of these roles socially change over time.
