Edebiyatın hemen her türünde eser kaleme alan Necati Cumalı, herhangi bir edebi topluluk içerisinde yer almamıştır. Şair, edebi hayatında yalın ve öznellikten yana olmuştur.İçinde yaşadığı topluma önem veren Cumalı, yazmış olduğu şiirlerinde bireylerden hareket ederek toplumsal sorunlara dikkat çeker. Necati Cumalı, şiir konularını yaşamından tanık olduğu olaylardan hareketle belirler. Bunların malzemesinin çoğu, şairin bizzat yaşadığı tecrübelerdir. Necati Cumalı'nın şiirleri geniş bir insan albümü sunar. Kendisini ve çevresini şiire kolaylıkla konu edinen şair, insani değerleri ön plana çıkarır ve şiirlerini bu doğrultuda şekillendirir.Şairliğini iki döneme ayırdığımız Necati Cumalı, özellikle ikinci dönem şiirleri olarak adlandırdığımız 1960 sonrası şiirlerinde toplumsal konulara öncelik verir. Toplumsal konulara kayıtsız kalmayan şairlerden biri olan Cumalı, şiir hayatına İkinci Dünya Savaşı yıllarında başlar. Büyük yıkımların olduğu bu dönemde, ülkede de siyasi ve ekonomik birçok sıkıntı kendini gösterir. Böyle bir atmosferde çıraklığını atlatan şair, ilk dönem şiirlerinde birey odaklı şiir yazmasına karşın ikinci dönem şiirlerinde toplumu merkeze alarak şiirlerine ideolojik bir söylem kazandırır. Necati Cumalı'nın şiirleri, küçük insanın toplum içerisindeki sıkıntılarını irdelemesi bakımından önem arz eder. Toplumsal olaylara müdahale edilebileceği ve dünyanın bir amaca göre dönüştürülebileceği inancı, Cumalı'nın sanatının alt katmanına yerleşmiş bir olgu olarak gösterilebilir.Necati Cumalı, genel olarak yurt ve insan gerçeğine eğilmeyi, kentte ve kırsal bölgelerde yaşanan toplumsal ilişkileri yansıtmayı başarır. Şair, yurdun bütün kesimlerini, bütün çevrelerini, insanlarını yansıtan bir ayna olmuştur. Necati cumalı determines the subjects of his poems according to the events that he wittnessed. Most of them are the experiences of the poet himself. The Poetry of Necati Cumalı presents us a wide human portrait. The poet that brings himself and his environment up easily in his poetry, puts human values forward and forms his poems through this sense.Necati Cumalı ,that we divides his poesy into two periods, gives priority to social issues in his later 1960 poems which are called as especially Second Period poetry. Cumalı ,one of the poets who is not indifferent to social issues, begins his poetry life during The World War II. In addition to massive destructions during that period there occurs lots of political and financial problems. The poet, completing his apprenticeship such atmosphere, gains an ideological expression to his poems by centering society in his second period poetry although he writes individual-centered poems in his first period poetry. Poems of Necati cumalı are quite important in terms of examining the burdens of a humanbeing in the society. The belief that it is possible to interfere in social events and to change the world into a better condition with great efforts, can be presented as the basic phenomenon of his art.Necati cumalı accomplishes to represent the homeland and human facts, and to Express the social relationships in urban areas and countryside. The poet became like a mirror that reflected the entire people, and all the surroundings of the country.
