The obtained polymer (P1) has low band gap (0.85 eV) and showed electrochromic property (pale mustard-colored in neutral state, grey in oxidized state and brown in reduced state). Moreover, copolymerization of 1 was carried out with EDOT for the formation of P(1-co-EDOT) which exhibits higher electrochemical stability than its homopolymer (P1) and have intriguing electrochromic property with a color change from the tunes of brown to the tunes of green.
