Conference Object Assessment of the Immunocontraceptive Effect of a Long-Acting Single-Dose Gnrh Vaccine (repro-Bloc™) in Female Rats(Wiley-blackwell, 2015) Eski, F.; Sendag, S.; Alan, M.; Tasal, I.; Mis, L.; Yildirim, S.; Wehrend, A.Article Cervical Leiomyoma in a Dairy Cow During Pregnancy(Elsevier Science Bv, 2008) Sendag, S.; Cetin, Y.; Alan, M.; Llhan, F.; Eski, F.; Wehrend, A.In the present report we describe a case of cervical leiomyoma that was diagnosed at parturition in a Holstein cow. The tumor mass, which measured 25.5 cm x 21.5 cm x 14.5 cm in size and weighed 4.5 kg, was removed surgically. The tumor was solid, well circumscribed, whitish-pink colored, and encapsulated. The tumor was diagnosed as leiomyoma. The leiomyoma. had no adverse effects on pregnancy. This is the first report of a bovine cervical leiomyoma during parturition. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. Four clinically healthy lactating dairy goats, namely 8 mammary papillae were used. After surgical preparation of the papillae, a 3.5 cm long incision of each papilla was made through skin, muscular layer and mucosa into the papillary sinus. The wounds in the right papillae in all goats were closed with U-shaped uninterrupted 00 chromic catgut sutures. The wounds in the left papillae in all goats were closed, using fibrin glue. One incision was seen to be dehisced and fistulous one day after in fibrin glued teats. The animals were slaughtered 8 days after surgical manipulation. The mammary papillae were removed and examined in the viewpoint on gross and microscopic findings. The healing of wounds was slower and feeble in glued mammary papillary incisions, however faster and stronger in sutured incisions on day 8 after operations. But, available outcomes like less tissue thickness and positive cosmetic results could be obtained by fibrin glue used on mammary papillary incisions, which are very important for teats to be milked by hand and milking machine. Results suggest that it is advisable to use only one or two simple interrupted sutures in teat incisions glued with fibrin to prevent the dehiscence but with a more reliable healing than the sutured incisions.Article Preliminary Report on Induction of Estrus With Multiple Ecg Injections in Colored Mohair Goats During the Anestrus Season(Elsevier Science Bv, 2009) Karaca, F.; Tasal, I.; Alan, M.This trial was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of multiple eCG injections in the induction of estrus and pregnancy in Colored Mohair goats during the anestrus season. It was also aimed to determine total dose of eCG required for induction of estrus. Ten multiparous and lactating goats were used. The goats were randomly divided into two groups and treatments were started on May 22. Group eCG (n = 5) was treated with eCG intramuscularly for 6 days. Daily dosages of eCG from May 22 to May 27 were 300 IU, 200 IU, 200 IU, 100 IU, 100 IU and 50 IU, respectively. Goats in control group received no treatment. Blood samples were taken from animals in each of the two groups just before and after the beginning of the treatments and serum progesterone concentrations were assayed by RIA. Starting on the fourth day after the first treatments, goats were exposed to fertile bucks twice daily for 30 min to detect standing heat. The estrus goats were allowed to be mated by the bucks. Pregnancies were determined 40 days after mating by real-time ultrasonography. One goat on day 5 and three goats on day 7 exhibited behavioral estrus in eCG group (80%) after the first eCG injection. Three of them (75%) became pregnant. None of the goats in the control group exhibited behavioral estrus. Mean serum progesterone concentrations had prominent elevations indicating ovulation in eCG group, but not in control group, after 20 days from the first treatments. Progesterone concentrations of eCG group were significantly different than those of control group on days 20 and 28 (P < 0.05). The results suggest that divided multiple injections of a total 950 IU eCG are effective without progestagen pretreatment in the induction of estrus and obtaining successful pregnancy and live kids in Colored Mohair goats during the anestrus season. True vaginal prolapse may occur near parturition, as the concentration of serum progesterone declines and the concentration of serum oestrogen increases. In the bitch, this type of true vaginal prolapse is a very rare condition. This short communication describes a 5-year-old female, cross-breed dog in moderate condition, weighing 33 kg, with distocia and true vaginal prolapse. Abdominal palpation and transabdominal ultrasonography revealed live and dead foetuses in the uterine horns. One dead and four live fetuses were removed from uterus by cesarean section. The ovariohysterectomy was performed after repositioning the vaginal wall with a combination of traction from within the abdomen and external manipulation through the vulva. Re-occurrence of a vaginal prolapse was not observed and the bitch recovered completely after the surgical therapy. Compared to other vaginal disorders, vaginal prolapse is an uncommon condition in the bitch. In the present case, extreme tenesmus arising from distocia may have predisposed to the vaginal prolapse. The cause of dystocia was probably the disposition of the first foetus. We concluded that the vaginal prolapse was the result of dystocia in the present case. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V.
