The beneficial effects of acupuncture are reported: notably improvements in the extensor thrust, patella and coccygeal reflexes, balance, defaecation and micturition.Article Cecal Dilatation and Dislocation in a Montafon Cow(KAFKAS UNIVERSITY, 2009) Alkan, I.; Aslan, L.; Karasu, A.; Akgü, Y.; Düz, E.; YavuZ, E.In this study, operative treatment and results was presented a 5-year-old Montafon cow with cecal dilatation and dislocation. The case was made clinical examination which brought to our clinics with complain of sudden onset of anorexia, a reduction of milk and failure to pass feces. After clinical examination of animal were decided in the operation. Determined the phytobezoar of bowel in the ceacum ileo-ceace-coloc area which accepted to cause of cecal dilatation and dislocation was removed. For a period of 20 days of postoperative follow-up in animal were observed any of the complications and getting better.Article Comparative Effects of Intra-Articular Administration of Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Hyaluronic Acid in an Experimental Osteoarthritis Model in Rats(Arquivo Brasileiro Medicina veterinaria Zootecnia, 2025) Sancak, T.; Yildiz, F.; Gurbuz, H. H.; Alkan, I.Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic disease characterized by inflammation or cartilage deterioration in joints, leading to debilitating, movement-associated pain and degenerative changes in joint cartilage, bone, and other surrounding tissues, caused by factors such as joint injury, aging, obesity, and heredity. Various agents are used in OA treatment. In this study, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and vitamin D were used in different combinations. A total of 32 rats were used in the study. After osteoarthritis was experimentally induced in the rats under general anesthesia, they were randomly divided into eight groups. Then, the preparations were administered intra-articularly as a single dose according to the groups. The study was terminated after 21 days. The tissues collected post-study were examined histopathologically. According to the histopathological findings of the study, the preparations provided mild cartilage tissue regeneration when applied individually, moderate regeneration when used in pairs, and significant regeneration and new bone trabecula formation when used in a triple combination.Article Extremity Problems in Ostrich Chicks and Their Treatment(2009) Asian, L.; Genccelep, M.; Karasu, A.; Duz, E.; Alkan, I.; Bakir, B.Extremity problems in 120 ostrich chicks were investigated in this study. Fledglings were followed for 1 year and extremity problems were evaluated as congenital or acquired. In the study, congenital lower extremity problems were found in 17.5% of the cases (both extremities extended sideways m 10 cases, 1 extremity extended sideways in 3 cases, one leg extended forward and the other back in 4 cases, big toe retrovert in 2 cases, 5th toe deviated towards underneath of the big toe, totaling to 21 cases) and acquired lower extremity problems in 19.64% of the cases (tibiotarsal luxation in 6 cases, tarsal bone fracture in 1 case, fractures in radius-ulna in 1 case, injuries of the extremities in 9 cases and arthritis in the tarsal joint in 2 cases and in proximal mterphalangeal joint in 3 cases, totaling to 22 cases). Extremity problems were found in 43 (35.83%) ostrich chicks out of 120 (congenital in 21 cases and acquired in 22). Of these 43 cases, it was observed that 29 (67.44%) were healed with the treatment applied, whereas, 14 (32.56%) did not heal. It was concluded in the study that the extremity problems causing great economic losses in ostrich husbandry can be minimized with prevention, early diagnosis and proper treatment. © Medwell Journals, 2009.Article The Investigation on the Effect of the Vegetal Origin Ankaferd Blood Stopper in Experimental Intra-Abdominal Surgery Over Rabbits(2010) Duz, E.; Asian, L.; Alkan, I.; Bayram, I.; Kaya, A.; Ayhan, H.; Özer, E.With this study, it is aimed to conduct a research on the haemostatic effects of the herbal originated blood stopper product which is titled as Ankaferd Blood Stopper (ABS) in intra-abdominal surgery in rabbits. The materials of the study consist of 20 healthy adult New Zeeland rabbits, 10 male and 10 female ones. The rabbits were divided into two groups as working group and control group. The left abdominal part of rabbits was incised by 5 cm, their skin, cutaneous connective tissue and muscles were incised, respectively. About 1-2 mL gauzed bandage tampons which were saturated with Ankaferd Blood Stopper applied on all of 10 cases. The time passed for the blood to stop was measured by the chronometer. Moreover, bleeding spots with 1 cm length and 5 mm depth were made by bistoury on the liver and spleen. The tampons saturated with ABS were applied on the liver and spleen for 90 sec with medium pressure. The tampons with the dimensions of 4X4 cm were applied on bleeding spots of the control group with medium pressure. The time passed for the blood to stop was recorded. The time passed for blood stopping was compared. With Ankaferd Blood Stopper, the haemostasis was achieved within 9 sec for application in skm, 19 sec in coetaneous connective tissue, 42 sec in muscles, 147 sec in liver, 162 sec in spleen in experimental group while haemostasis was achieved within 220 sec for application in skin, 256 sec in coetaneous connective tissue, 238 sec in muscles, 550 sec in liver and 400 sec in spleen. As a conclusion, when the blood stopper product which is known as Ankaferd Blood Stopper is compared to the control group in external bleeding, it is seen that it achieves an effective haemostasis. © Medwell Journals, 2010.
