Lycopene provides health benefits by being absorbed into body tissues and mounting a defense against damaging free radicals that if left unchecked, create oxidative damage to cells. This leads to conditions such as cancer, heart disease, macular degeneration, diabetes, joint deterioration and accelerated aging. The body obtains antioxidants from many of the foods that comprise a healthy diet however many people fail to eat enough of these recommended foods. In addition, the city environments are overloaded with extra free radicals courtesy of sources like industrial pollution, motor vehicles and smoking. Hence, there is a need to increase the dietary intake of an effective antioxidant such as lycopene. All antioxidants have shown a role in destroying free radicals and thereby reducing the damage to all cells in the body. Lycopene inhibits free radical damage to LDL cholesterol with its antioxidant action preventing oxidation to LDL cholesterol. Oxidation of cholesterol is a process that can cause a great deal of cell damage. Lycopeneboosts the body's natural antioxidant defences and protects against DNA damage thus promotes heart health. Numerous epidemiological studies have linked diets that are high in lycopene intake with a reduced risk of cancer and degenerative diseases. This study summarizes the information about lycopene and presents the current knowledge with respect to its role in human health and disease. © Medwell Journals, 2012.Article Comparison on the Effects of Some Glicosaminogylican Derives (Chitosan and Hyaluronan) in Diabetic Wound Healing(Ataturk Universitesi, 2016) Tuygun, F.; Atasoy, N.This study aimed to compare the effects of chitosan and hyaluronan on diabetic wounds. The concentration of sevoflurane (Sevo) required maintaining surgical anesthesia was around 1.5% in TGM-OS and 3.3% in OS anesthesia. Mean Arterial Blood Pressure (MABP) was maintained at around 77 mm Hg under TGMOS anesthesia, while dobutamine (0.43 +/- 0.13 mu g kg(-1)) infusion was necessary to maintain MABP at 60 mmHg under OS anesthesia. No apparent complication was observed during and after anesthesia in all cases. Recovery from anesthesia tinder TGM-OS anesthesia was very calm and smooth. The times required for the horse to return both sternal and standing position in group under TGM-OS anesthesia tended to be shorter than group under OS anesthesia which statistical differences were p<0.05 and p<0.01, respectively. Thiopental Guafinesine-Metedomidine and Oxygen-Sevoflurane anesthesia (TGM-OS anesthesia) may be useful for prolonged equine anesthesia because of its minimal cardiopulmonary effects and good recovery from anesthesia.Article Evaluation of Analgesic and Anti Inflammatory Activity of Pimpinella Anisum Fixed Oil Extract(indian veterinary Journal, 2006) Tas, A.; Ozbek, H.; Atasoy, N.; Altug, M. Enes; Ceylan, E.Pimpinella anisum is a member of the Umbelliferae and is found in the northeastern Anatolia (Zeybek, 1960). In Turkish folk medicine, Pimpinella species have several uses such. as analgesic, anti-inflammatory, appetizing, hypnotic, antispasmodic, expectorant,. antibacterial and hepato-protective. Seeds of P. anisum contains 1.5 - 2.0 % essential oil, 10-20 % fixed oil, 18 % protein. No reports are available on the evaluation of this plant for possible anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity: In this study, fixed oil of P. anisum was investigated for anti-inflammatory activity using carrageenan-induced rat paw oedema test (Winter et al., 1962) and analgesic activity with a tail-flick apparatus using a method initially described by D'amour and Smith (1941).Article Histopathological and Immunohistochemical Study of the Effect of Sildenafil Citrate, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E on Wound Healing in Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Rats(Univ West indies Faculty Medical Sciences, 2021) Tas, A.; Karasu, A.; Yener, Z.; Yildirim, S.; Atasoy, N.; Duz, E.; Yavuz, E.Objective: To examine the impact of sildenafil citrate, vitamin A (Vit A), vitamin C (Vt C) and vitamin E (Vit E) on wound healing in a rat model of diabetes (n = 100). Methods: Diabetes was induced in the rats by intraperitoneal (i.p.) administration of alloxan. After anaesthesia, a standard wound was created on the back of each rat using a 10-mm sterile punch. The rats were randomly divided into 10 groups (n = 10 in each), as follows: normal saline, glibenclamide, insulin, sildenafil, Vit A, Vit C, Vit E, Vit A + sildenafil, Vit C + sildenafil, Vit E + sildenafil daily for 15 days. The rats were sacrificed after being anaesthetized 3, 7 and 15 days later Wounded skin tissue samples were collected for histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses. Results: On the 7th day, epithelial regeneration was completed in groups 8 and 9. Angiogenesis was insufficient in group 2. In terms of connective tissue proliferation, partially matured connective tissue was observed in group 4. On the 15th day of the study, groups 8, 9 and 10 had mature connective tissue. However; group 1 still had exudate-containing neutrophils. Immunohistochemically, on the 3rd day, the level of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) reactivity was intense in macrophages and neutrophils surrounding the wound edges in groups 4, 8, 9 and 10. The level of iNOS reactivity was moderate in group 6 and less distinct in groups 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7. Conclusion: Sildenafil citrate, together with Vit A and Vit C, is beneficial in wound healing of diabetic rats.Other Köpeklerde Prostatın Ultrasonografik ve Radyografik Bulgularının Karşılaştırılması(2000) Atasoy, N.; Alkan, İ.; Aslan, L.; Gençcelep, M.; Bakır, B.Bu çalışmada 2-7 yaş arasında 3'ü prostatomegali'li, 17' si sağlıklı 20 adet erkek melez köpek kullanıldı. Similar symptoms can be seen in cattle with traumatic pericarditis. Pressure caused by tumours, abscesses, Echinococcus cysts, swollen lymph nodes resulting from tuberculosis and leukosis, one-sided pleuritis and diaphragmatic hernia to the base of cranial and caudal vena cava returning blood to the heart have been reported to cause pseudopericarditis in cattle. These mediastinal lymph nodes may also be swollen due to theileriosis and cause pressure on the v. cava. This study aims to describe the clinical, haematological and electrocardiographical findings of a pseudopericarditis case in a cow caused by theileriosis, and to add the disease into the aetiology of pseudopericarditis.
