Article Dream Anxiety Is an Emotional Trigger for Acute Myocardial Infarction(2011) Selvi, Y.; Aydin, A.; Gumrukcuoglu, H.A.; Gulec, M.; Besiroglu, L.; Ozdemir, P.G.; Kilic, S.Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between nightmares and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) occurring during sleep, and also to evaluate the influence of several related factors. Method: The sample comprised AMI patients who had been admitted to the coronary care unit. The patients were grouped into two categories; the asleep-AMI group consisted of 36 patients who had the onset of symptoms of AMI during sleep, and the awake-AMI group included 183 patients who had AMI while they were awake. The sleep quality and dream anxiety for the 1-month interval before AMI were assessed with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Van Dream Anxiety Scale (VDAS), respectively. Results: Asleep-AMI patients reported significantly poorer subjective sleep quality, significantly higher global PSQI scores, and displayed significantly higher nightmare frequency, difficulty in falling asleep after a nightmare, higher autonomic hyperactivity, dream recall frequency, daytime anxiety, psychological problems, and higher global dream anxiety scores than awake-AMI patients. Conclusion: The present study suggests that sleep anxiety and related emotions are associated with AMI during sleep. © 2011 The Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine.Article Eeg Under Sleep-Deprived Conditions: Its Usefulness in Psychiatry: Two Case Examples(American Psychiatric Publishing Inc., 2014) Özdemir, O.; Aydin, A.; Milanlioglu, A.; Yilmaz, E.Epilepsy is a brain disorder characterized by recurrent and unpredictable seizures. It is associated with an increased risk of developing mental disorders. Electroencephalography (EEG) is the most important diagnostic tool for this disease; however, a normal EEG cannot exclude the diagnosis of epileptic seizures, so EEG performed under sleep deprivation was performed in two case examples treated in the psychiatry clinic, in order to prove that sleep deprivation may increase epileptiform discharges. © 2014 by the American Psychiatric Association.Conference Object The Effect of Alexithymia on Somatization and Sleep Quality in Major Depressive Patients(Cambridge Univ Press, 2012) Aydin, A.; Ozdemir, P. The objective of our present study is to examine the relation between hormonal values, which are known for being related to the effects of these said changes determined in the mood, dissociation and thought suppression in healthy individuals after one night of sleep deprivation implementation. Methods: One night sleep deprivation was performed on a total of thirty- two healthy volunteers (16 males and 16 females) who were included in the study. Blood samples were taken from the individuals before and after sleep deprivation implementation in order to determine cortisol, dehydroepiandrosterone-sulfate (DHEA-S) and Thyroid Functions’ Levels tests. In order to evaluate the effects of the sleep deprivation on moods, “White Bear Suppression Inventory (WBSI)” has been conducted, with an aim of evaluating thought suppression, “Profile of Mood States (POMS)”, “Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES)” with a purpose of realizing any dissociation tendency. Results: On the individuals who have been implemented for sleep deprivation, a decrease on depression and vigor-activity sub-scales values was detected, and an increase was determined on fatigue sub-scales values of “POMS”. While the values of DES were found to have been statistically increased after sleep deprivation, also a significant decrease was determined on WBSI values. Even if there hasn’t been any significant statistical change determined on cortisol levels after sleep deprivation, yet there had been some significant changes detected on Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), fT3, fT4, and DHEA-S levels. Decrease in “POMS” depression sub-scale values and increase on fatigue sub-scale values were determined on the individuals whose sT4 levels were found to be increased significantly in statistic manner after the sleep deprivation. Conclusion: According to the results of our study, sleep deprivation for one night was determined to cause decrease on depressive mood, increase on dissociative symptoms and to lower the tendency of suppressing the unwanted thoughts, consciously. The fact of being obtained lower depression values, on the individuals with the increased DHEA-S levels after the sleep deprivation meets with the information claiming that the high DHEA-S levels may be deemed as protectors against the negative effects of the stress. © 2015 by Turkish Association of Neuropsychiatry.Letter Electroconvulsive Therapy in a Patient With a Liver Transplant(American Psychiatric Association, 2014) Özdemir, O.; Aydin, A.; Tapanci, Z.; Atilla, E.Conference Object Influence of Pharmacological Treatment on Obsessive Beliefs in the Patients With Obsessive Compulsive Disorder(Elsevier France-editions Scientifiques Medicales Elsevier, 2011) Selvi, Y.; Besiroglu, L.; Aydin, A.; Atli, A.; Gulec, M.Conference Object The Influence of Shift Work on Cognitive Functions and Oxidative Stress(Cambridge Univ Press, 2013) Ozdemir, P. Clinical coccidiosis in goats is most frequently caused by-E.-arlaffig-1 (Sayin et al., 1997) and E. ninakohli-yakimovae (Yvore et al., 1985). There have been some studies on caprine coccidiosis in Turkey. In these studies the Eimerian oocysts have been found in the faeces of 94.8% of 147 goats (Guler et al., 1990), 53.3% of 353 goats (Deger et al., 2003). This study was conducted to determine the prevalence and intensity of Eimeria species in goats in Hakkari province in Turkey.Article Prevalence of Liver Flukes in Hair Goats Slaughtered in Hakkari (Yüksekova) Province(2008) Gül, A.; Aydin, A.The aim of this investigation was to determine the prevalence of distomatosis in 267 hair goats which were slaughtered in the slaughterhouses belonging to butchers located in Yüksekova district of Hakkari province. In the study, distomatosis were detected in 165 (61.80%) of the 267 hair goats. Distomatosis was found in 20/98 (20.41%) hair goats which were younger than one year old and in 145/169 (85.80%) which were older than one year. It was found that the species most often responsible were Fasciola hepatica (41.21%) and Dicrocoelium dendriticum (42.42%). Mixed infections (F. hepatica+D. dendriticum) were found only in hair goats older than one year (13.94 %). In this investigation, Fasciola gigantica was found to infect only the ones older than one year (2.76%).Article Seroprevalence of Toxoplasmosis, Brucellosis and Listeriosis in Horses in Hakkari, Eastern Region of Turkey(Ecole Nationale veterinaire Toulouse, 2007) Goez, Y.; Babuer, C.; Aydin, A.; Kilic, S.The aim of this study was to detect the seroprevalences of Toxoplasmosis, brucellosis and listeriosis in horses from the Hakkari city, eastern region of Turkey. For this purpose, serum samples from 74 local horses were obtained and tested using IHA and Sabin-Feldman Dye tests (SFDT) for toxoplasmosis, Serum Tube Agglutination test (SAT) for brucellosis and Osebold Agglutination Test (OAT) for listeriosis. The toxoplasmosis seroprevalences detected with MAT and with SFDT were 13.5% and 28.3% respectively, the SFDT presenting a higher sensitivity. The seroprevalence of brucellosis was low in horses (9.5%) while a high seroprevalence of listeriosis (48.6%) was evidenced. No significant association between age or sex and toxoplasmosis or listeriosis infections was observed. By contrast, brucellosis seroprevalence was significantly higher in females than in males. These results suggest that horses from the Hakkari region can be considered as potential reservoirs for these infectious agents for other species and may contribute to the disease spreading and to direct (brucellosis, listeriosis) and indirect (toxoplasmosis) contamination of humans.Conference Object Socio-Demographic and Clinical Risk Factors on the Non-Recovery of the Major Depressive Disorder: a 52-Week Follow-Up Study(Cambridge Univ Press, 2012) Gulec, M.; Selvi, Y.; Boysan, M.; Aydin, A.; Besiroglu, L.; Agargun, M. Case Presentation: A 53-year-old woman was admitted with the complaints of abdominal pain, abdominal distension and postmenopausal bleeding. Her transvaginal ultrasound scan revealed a cystic mass containing papillary projections with the dimensions of 6.5 × 5 × 4 cm on the right ovary. Level of (carbohydrate antigen) (CA) 125 was 223 IU. Dilation and curettage revealed endometrioid adenocarcinoma. Debulking surgerywas carried out. Histopathological diagnosis was grade 2 adenocarcinoma with squamous differentiation for endometrial cancer and grade 2 endometrioid adenocarcinoma with squamous and mucinous differentiation for ovarian cancer. The stage was 1A for endometrial cancer and 1A for ovarian cancer. 12 months after the operation CA 125 level was 112 IU. Positron emission tomography (PET) scan showed a small lesion (1.5×1.5 cm) in the pelvic cavity with increased fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake. Five months after the chemotherapy, CA 125 level elevated from 10 to 60 IU and subsequent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a tumoral mass with the dimensions of 3×2.2 cm. A second laparotomy was performed and the metastasis was excited. The tumor was endometrioid adenocarcinoma with infiltration in the serosa and muscularis propria of sigmoid colon. Conclusion: It is necessary to consider the presence of double cancer in the diagnosis and treatment of gynecological cancers. © 2015 The Author(s).Article Triton Emission Spectra in Some Target Nuclei Irradiated by Ultra-Fast Neutrons(Springer, 2010) Tel, E.; Kaplan, A.; Aydin, A.; Buyukuslu, H.; Demirkol, I.; Arasoglu, A.High-current proton accelerator technologies make use of spallation neutrons produced in (p,xn) and (n,xn) nuclear reactions on high-Z targets. The produced neutrons are moderated by heavy water. These moderated neutrons are subsequently captured on (3)He to produce tritium via the (n,p) reaction. Tritium self-sufficiency must be maintained for a commercial power plant. So, working out the systematics of (n,t) reaction cross sections and triton emission differential data are important for the given reaction taking place on various nuclei at different energies. In this study, triton emission spectra by using ultra-fast neutrons (incident neutron energy > 50 MeV), the (n,xt) reactions for some target nuclei as (16)O, (27)Al, (56)Fe, (59)Co, (208)Pb and (209)Bi have been investigated. In the calculations, the pre-equilibrium and equilibrium effects have been used. The calculated results have been compared with the experimental data taken from the literature.
