Article Effect of Stacking Sequence and Metal Volume Fraction on the Ballistic Impact Behaviors of Arall Fiber-Metal Laminates: an Experimental Study(Wiley, 2022) Kosedag, Ertan; Aydin, Murat; Ekici, RecepThanks to their superior mechanical properties, polymer matrix composites have gained considerable importance. In order to improve the impact resistance of polymer matrix composite materials, a new hybrid material known as fiber metal laminate (FML) has been developed. The aim of this study was to reveal the effect of stacking sequence (SS), metal volume fraction (MVF), and number of layers on ballistic resistance in fiber metal laminates (FMLs). Four types of FMLs in different sequences and MVF (25% and 50%) were produced with hot press and vacuum. Ballistic tests were carried out with a single stage gas gun system. The absorbed energy was calculated from the energy difference that occurred by taking into account the FMLs entry and exit velocity of the projectile and the projectile mass. Damage types were examined after ballistic testing. It was determined that the stacking sequence and MVF significantly affect the impact resistance of FMLs. It was determined that the metal layer, which first encounters the projectile, compared to the polymer matrix composite, is more effective on the impact resistance of FMLs, and the impact resistance increased with the increase of MVF. In addition, the increase in the number of layers, if the top layers remain the same, adversely affected the impact resistance. It was observed that the first layer that encounters the projectile and the amount of MVF have a significant effect on the ballistic impact strength. As the amount of MVF increases, the ballistic impact resistance increases.Article Evaluation of Genetic Diversity Using Ipbs-Scot Marker Methods in Native Hawthorn Genetic Resources and Species Identification by Using Dna Barcoding Method(C M B Assoc, 2023) Sagbas, Halil Ibrahim; Ercisli, Sezai; Aydin, Murat; Ilhan, Emre; Aydinyurt, Recep; Kasapoglu, Ayse Gul; Polat, YakupHawthorn is an important medicinal plant that spreads around the world and is used in traditional Chinese medicine. Its flowers and leaves contain flavonoids, vitamins, organic acids and essential oils. Its fruit is consumed as fresh and dried and is an important plant for human health. In this study, iPBS (Inter Primer Binding Site) and SCoT (Start Codon Target Polymorphism) markers were used to analyze genetic variation among 101 hawthorn genotypes collected from coruh Valley, Turkiye and ITS markers were used for DNA barcoding. Ten iPBS primers were used and a total of 400 alleles were identified from ten iPBS primers with an average of 40 alleles. PIC values ranged from 0.239 (iPBS 2387) to 0.272 (iPBS 2244). Twenty SCoT pri-mers were used and have an average of 50.05 alleles. The PIC values of the primers ranged from 0.251 (SCoT 2) to 0.297 (SCoT 34). For the DNA barcoding study, it was confirmed that the correct region was amplified and sequenced. The genotypes we used in the study matched 14 different accession numbers by searching a BLASTN in the NCBI. NCBI similarity rates of hawthorn genotypes are between 90.83% and 100%. The study emphasizes the genetic diversity of hawthorn grown from seed and the importance of preserving plant genetic resources.Article Nephrogenic Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuresis Mimicking Hyporeninemic Hypoaldosteronism: Case Report of Two Infants(Galenos Publ House, 2023) Mammadova, Jamala; Kara, Cengiz; Bitkin, Eda Celebi; Gullu, Elif Izci; Aydin, MuratNephrogenic syndrome of inappropriate antidiuresis (NSIAD) is an X-linked disease caused by activating mutations in the arginine vasopressin (AVP) receptor-2 (AVPR2) gene. Affected patients excrete concentrated urine despite very low levels of AVP, and consequently develop euvolemic hyponatremia. Due to its low frequency, patients may be misdiagnosed and treated incorrectly. We report two related male infants with NSIAD that was initially confused with hyporeninemic hypoaldosteronism (HH). First, a 2-month-old male presented with hyponatremia, low plasma osmolality, relatively high urine osmolality, and low plasma renin-aldosterone levels. These clinical and laboratory findings were compatible with syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone (ADH) secretion without apparent cause. Consequently, fludrocortisone was initiated with a presumptive diagnosis of HH. While correcting hyponatremia, fludrocortisone treatment led to hypertension and was discontinued promptly. The second patient, aged one year, was admitted with a history of oligohydramnios, had been hospitalized four times due to hyponatremia since birth, and had a diagnosis of epilepsy. Similarly, the second infant had clinical and laboratory findings compatible with syndrome of inappropriate ADH secretion with no apparent cause. Fluid restriction normalized his serum sodium despite the plasma AVP level being undetectable. In both infants, AVPR2 gene analysis revealed a known mutation (c.409C>T; p.R137C) and confirmed the diagnosis of NSIAD. In conclusion, NSIAD should be considered in all patients with unexplained euvolemic hyponatremia despite high urine osmolality. If NSAID is not considered, the plasma renin-aldosterone profile can be confused with HH, especially in infants.Editorial Rest Myocardial Perfusion Scintigraphy Showing the Invasion of the Hydatid Cyst in the Myocardium(Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2013) Bozkurt, Hasan; Aydin, Murat; Talas, Zeki; Demir, Yusuf; Surucu, ErdemA cardiac hydatid cyst is a rare complication of the Echinococcus infection, and it is seen in just 0.5% to 2% of all cases. Because it can cause sudden death, removing the cyst is recommended. It is important to determinate the relationship between the cyst and the intra/extracardiac structures before the operation because it is of vital importance during the operation. In our case, we showed that rest myocardial perfusion scintigraphy provided an additional contribution to anatomic imaging in that it showed the invasion of the cyst in the myocardium, which was effectively directing the course of the operation.
