Article Childhood Ruptured Pulmonary Hydatid Cysts(Logos Medical Publishing, 2021) Avcı, V.; Ayengin, K.; Göksu, M.Objective: One of the most serious complications of pulmonary hydatid cyst is rupture of it. Post-rupture asphyxia, anaphylactic shock, acute respiratory failure and massive hemoptysis may occur. In this study, we aimed to present ruptured pulmonary hydatid cyst cases who were followed up and treated in our clinic. Method: In January January 2012-January 2021, patients between 0-18 years of age who underwent surgery for a ruptured hydatid lung cyst in our clinic were included in the study. Age, sex, complaint, cyst localization and surgical technique were evaluated. Results: In 23 (38%) of the 60 cases of hydatid lung cysts included in the study, rupture was diagnosed. Of the ruptured patients, 12 (52%) were girls and 11 (48%) were boys. The median age was 10.2 (5-17) years. The most common cause of admission was cough and fever. The most common localization was right lobe lung involvement. While capitonage was applied to six (26%) patients during the surgical procedure, 22(74%) patients did not. Lobectomy was performed in only one patient. Conclusion: Rupture is the most feared complication in pulmonary hydatid cyst. Therefore, complications that may occur after rupture of patients should be evaluated in terms of surgery in a short period of time. © Copyright Turkey Association of Pediatric Surgery.Article Comparison of Snodgrass and Bracka Methods in Terms of Urethral Fistula and Meatal Stenosis in Hypospadias Repair(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2020) Koçak, Ö.F.; Avci, V.; Ayengin, K.Hypospadias is one of the most frequent congenital anomalies in birth. Many factors may have part in etiology. Its treatment is possible only through surgical intervention, and there are more than 300 methods in literature identified for hypospadias repair. The purpose of this study is to compare Snodgrass and Bracka methods, the methods most frequently used for hypospadias repair, in terms of urethral fistula and meatal stenosis. In this study, the data of 40 patients operated between 2014 and 2019 years have been used. 20 of the patients have been operated with Snodgrass, and the others have been operated with Bracka method. The average ages of the patients operated with Snodgrass method and Bracka method were 4 years 3 months and 2 years 9 months respectively. Average length for follow-up for the patients operated with Snodgrass method was 18 months 9 days, and it was 35 months 1 day for the patients operated with Bracka method. Urethral fistula was observed to develop in %30 of the patients operated with Snodgrass method and %25 of those operated with Bracka method totally. In both methods, rates of meatal stenosis were more frequent compared to fistula (Snodgrass: %35, Bracka %40). Fistula development is found numerically more in the patients operated with Snodgrass method while meatal stenosis development is observed numerically more in those operated with Bracka method. © 2020, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. Many surgical techniques and materials have been used to reduce complications. The purpose of this study is to research the effects of contractubex® (allantoin, heparin, extractum cepae [AHEC]) gel on development of scar in the area repaired after urethrotomy. In the study, 45 male White New Zealand rabbits were used. The rabbits were divided into three groups randomly. Group 1(K): The group to which urethrotomy and primary closure were applied Group 2(A): The group to which urethrotomy, primary closure + 15-day AHEC were applied Group 3(B): The group to which urethrotomy, primary closure + 30-day AHEC were applied Urethras of the rabbits in the groups were calibrated with angiocath (24 Fr) once a day for 30 days. Along with calibration, AHEC was applied to the urethras of the rabbits in 2nd group for 15 days and urethras of the rabbits in the 3rd group for 30 days. To evaluate scar tissue, macroscopic and histopathological evaluations were carried out. Although inflammation was much more in the groups to which AHEC was applied, fibrosis was determine d to be less. It is thought that the application of AHEC may be effective in reducing scar formation after operation. © 2020, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. All rights reserved.
