Article Least Squares, Simple Linear Regression, and Pearson Correlation Analysis Between the Lactation Milk Yield of Norduz Ewes and Their Lambs’ Live Weight(Centenary University, 2024) Çelikyürek, H.; Aygün, T.This study aimed to determine the lactation milk yield of Norduz ewes and to determine the effects of milk yield on their lambs’ growth and development characteristics. Additionally, the correlations between the sheep’s milk yield, lambs’ live weight, and affecting factors were determined. The study was conducted at the Van University of Yüzüncü Yıl Agricultural Research Center. In the study, 61 Norduz ewes and 66 male and female lambs they bore were included. The sheep were milked at 30-day intervals until the 180th day. Similarly, the lambs were weighed at 30-day intervals from birth to 180th day. The means and standard errors of the milk yields were obtained on the 30, 60, 90, 120, 150th, and 180th days of milking. The live weight means and standard errors of the lambs on the 30th, 60th, 90th, 120th, 150th, and 180th days are given. According to the GLM analysis results, sex significantly influenced lactation length (p<0.05), and there was a difference in favor of female lambs. The impact of dam age was notably significant on live weight at days 60 and 90 (p<0.05). Additionally, birth type significantly affected live weight at day 30 and 60 (p<0.001), as well as at day 90 (p<0.01). Regarding the linear relationship between dam weight and live weight, a significant effect was observed at day 30 (p<0.001), day 60 (p<0.01), and day 90 (p<0.05). Notably, the linear effects of lamb birth weight on live weight remained significant across all control periods (p<0.001). © 2024, Centenary University. The animal material consisted of a total of 260 head of Norduz ewes including 52 head ewes at the different flocks raised in Dolaylı (farm 1), Geçerli (farm 2), Geziyurt (farm 3), Oğuldamı (farm 4) and, Taşınacak (farm 5) neighbourhoods of Gürpınar province in Van city. Norduz ewes were sheared using shearing scissors between end of June and beginning of July. After shearing, ewes were weighted by using electronic digital weighing scale. Then, the sampling for clean fleece percentage were performed from area of the last rib on the right shoulder of 12 head of ewes in each flock. When all the farms were generally evaluated, the effect of live weight after shearing on the greasy wool weight was statistically significant (p<0.01). Least squares means for greasy wool weight at farm 1, farm 2, farm 3, farm 4 and, farm 5 were 2.03, 2.05, 2.05, 2.06 and, 2.06 kg, respectively. When all the farms were generally evaluated, the effect of age of ewe and farm on the live weight after shearing was statistically significant (p<0.01) in Norduz ewes. Least squares means for live weight after shearing at Dolaylı, Geçerli, Geziyurt, Oğuldamı and, Taşınacak neighbourhoods were 53.21, 54.30, 51.25, 55.08 and, 54.93 kg, respectively. Means of clean fleece percentage were 64.25%, 67.76%, 63.50%, 66.68% and, 64.06% for Dolaylı, Geçerli, Geziyurt, Oğuldamı and, Taşınacak neighbourhoods, respectively. © 2017, Centenary University. This program is a program that can save the 581 different pieces of data for cattle in the works of the animal breeding work of small ruminants. The program was written in Visual Basic. The files of Microsoft Access were used as a database. Microsoft Excel was used for the reporting processes. In general, records kept in the computer software package are the breeding, the care, the feeding, the feed, the data before and after slaughtering, the illness, the herd management, the pedigree and so on. Through this study, by transferred to computer the records of small ruminants in the small and the medium-sized firms can be stored in databases for a long time. Also, when needed, the desired data can be reached quickly. It is one of the first and the most important stages of animal breeding studies to keep the yield records. Using this kind of computer package programs prepared for this purpose, the efficiency recording having an important place in animal husbandry can be recorded. © 2017, Centenary University.
