The Effects of Use of Plickerstm on the Vocabulary Learning Motivation, Anxiety and Achievement in Efl Classes

Bu araştırmanın amacı çevrimiçi anında yanıt sistemi olarak kullanılan ve aynı zamanda bir web 2.0 aracı olan Plickers™'ın yabancı dil öğretiminde kullanımının öğrencilerin kelime öğrenme motivasyonlarına, kelime öğrenme kaygılarına ve kelime öğrenme başarılarına herhangi bir etkisinin olup olmadığını incelemektir. Bu kapsamda araştırma Van ili İpekyolu ilçesine bağlı kırsal bölgede yer alan bir lisenin dokuzuncu sınıf düzeyinden 61 öğrencinin katılımı ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu çalışmada Plickers™ kullanımının öğrencilerin İngilizce dersleri kapsamında kelime öğrenme motivasyonları, kelime öğrenme kaygıları ve kelime öğrenme başarılarına etkileri ele alınmış ve bu değişkenler katılımcıların bazı bağımsız demografik değişkenleri açısından incelenmiştir. Araştırmada öntest sontest kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen, verilerin çözümlenmesinde ise ANCOVA ve ilişkili örneklem t testleri kullanılmıştır. İnceleme sonucunda deney grubu öğrencilerinin motivasyonlarının ve kelime öğrenme başarılarının kontrol grubu öğrencilerine göre anlamlı bir şekilde arttığı, kaygı değişkeninde ise kontrol grubu öğrencilerinde anlamlı bir yükseliş, deney grubu öğrencilerinde anlamlı bir düşüş olduğu görülmüştür. Ayrıca demografik değişkenlere yönelik gerçekleştirilen analizler sonucunda cinsiyet değişkeninin, öğrencilerin kelime öğrenme kaygıları, kelime öğrenme motivasyonları ve kelime öğrenme başarıları üzerinde herhangi bir değişikliğe neden olmadığı, ancak telefon ile ders çalışma değişkeninde kelime öğrenme başarısı üzerine deney grubu lehine anlamlı farklılık olduğu gözlemlenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda yabancı dil eğitiminde Plickers™ kullanımının öğrencilerin kelime öğrenme motivasyonlarına, kelime öğrenme kaygılarına ve kelime öğrenme başarılarına olumlu etkileri olduğu görülmüştür.
Technology Integration in English Language Teaching and Learning

Technology has improved rapidly in recent years and this improvement is affecting the field of education as it is in every field. In this context, traditional education methods have become inadequate as the technology is also rapidly changing students' expectations and learning habits. The effective use of information and communication technologies in education is mainly based on increasing the learning speed of the students during the education process, reducing the cost and providing effective learning. The rapid progress of technology makes technology usage indispensable for foreign language teaching and learning as well. The purpose of this study is to address the importance of ICT tools in the teaching-learning process of basic English language skills and to introduce the technology integration process for English language teaching and learning. It is understood that the integration of technology in English teaching and learning is of great importance in the development of basic English language skills such as listening, reading, speaking and writing. The hardware and software technological tools used in English language teaching and learning can make many contributions both to teachers and students in terms of repeated use of materials, availability of materials everywhere and at all times, costless or low cost of materials, and effective learning in a short time. As a result of this study, it can be said that the process of technology integration needs to be carried out consciously and in a planned way in order to make significant contributions to the use of technology, which is an essential task for teachers. Consequently, it should not be forgotten that the technology is to be effectively integrated into English language teaching and learning, and if the integration is not effectively done, on the contrary, technology may have a negative impact on the students' learning process.
