Article Correlation of Cervical Smear Cytology and Histopathology Findings From Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Dursun Odabaş Medical Center in Turkey(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2020) Demir, F.; Erten, R.; Aras, İ.; Bayram, İ.Papanicolaou cytology (Pap smear) is a screening technique recommended by World Health Organization (WHO), commonly used in the detection of precancerous lesions. This study aimed to compare the Pap smear results and the subsequent biopsy results in 258 patients diagnosed in our clinic to analyse their false-positive and false-negative rates and to discuss the outcomes in light of literature. The study included Pap smear specimens archived for four years that had undergone histopatholojical diagnoses of cervical biopsy, conization, curettage, and/or histerectomy within the three months. In the retrospective analysis, cytological diagnosis and the histological diagnosis which had been established within the subsequent three months were compared and then the false-negative and false-positive rates were calculated. In the cyto-histological comparison, the false-negative and false-positive rates independent of class ratio were 4,3% and 19%, respectively. The sensitivity, selectivity, positive and negative predictive values were 69%, 98%, 89% and 93%, respectively, excluding atypical classes of the cytologic diagnoses. As can be seen in our results, the correlation between Pap smear and biopsy results in our patients displayed an unignorable inconsistency although it was not remarkably different from those reported in the literature. Such discrepancies, which are likely to be detected in the cyto-histopathological studies around the world and do not attenuate the value of cervical cytology despite being unignorable, indicate the necessity of screening schemes involving the combined and effective use of different techniques such as Human papillomavirus (HPV) tests, repeated smear examinations, colposcopic examination, and biopsy in patients diagnosed by cervical cytology. © 2020, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. Therefore we evaluated the sensitivity and specificity of the IgA anti-tTG in a group of patients who were suspected of having CD. The study was performed at Van Training and Research Hospital, Van-Turkey. Details of patients in whom the IgA anti-tTG was requested from January 2009 to April 2012 were obtained from databases. Duplicate requests were excluded. Histopathologic examination of duodenal biopsies and serologic evaluations were compared. A total of 1614 IgA anti-tTG were requested from different patients. In all, 49.6% of requests were in females and 29.8% from children under the age of sixteen. A total of 192 (11.9%) requests were found to be positive. Duodenal biopsies were performed to 61 (31.8%) of seropositive patients. The overall sensitivity and specificity of IgA antitTG were 93.3% and 9.5%. Our data have revealed that clinicians should be aware of solely relying on the results of the IgA anti-tTG test could result in unnecessary diagnostic procedures and treatments. © 2015 Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. EM has recently been recognized as a distinct disease differentiated from the Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical and histopathological characteristics of patients with EM. The retrospective study included 66 patients who received outpatient or inpatient treatment at the Dermatology department due to a diagnosis of EM between 2005 and 2017. Age, gender, etiological factor, recurrence, significant histopathological findings, presence of target lesions, mucosal involvement, and treatment metho ds were recorded. The 66 patients included 22 (33.3%) men and 44 (66.7%) women with a mean age of 36.7 ±13.9 years. The etiological factor was Herpes labialis in 36.4%, medication in 31.8%, Orf infection in 13.6%, and no etiological factor was detected in 18.2% of the patients. Although EM is a common entity in dermatology practice, there are a limited number of studies reporting on EM. The results indicated that EM can occur secondary to Orf infection. © 2018, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. Immunohistochemical analysis has confirmed that SFPTs originate from the mesenchyme underlying the mesothelial layer of the pleura. SFPTs are usually asymptomatic. However, larger tumors occupying larger spaces in the thoracic cavity present more commonly with symptoms like dyspnea or chest pain. In this case report, we present a giant SFPT in a 71-year-old woman who presented with chest pain on the left side and progressive dyspnea over the previous 4 years. © 2015, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi.
