Article Extraintestinal Manifestations Associated With Celiac Disease(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2019) Kayar, Y.; Dertli, R.; Sürmeli, N.; Bilgili, M.A.Celiac disease (CD) can affect almost all organs of the body, including the nervous system, liver, skin, reproductive and musculoskeletal systems. In this study, it is aimed to determine the prevalence of extra-intestinal manifestations (EIMs) in adult celiac patients and to investigate the factors affecting the development of EIMs. The study included 230 celiac patients who were diagnosed and followed-up in our clinics between 2015-2019. The demographic and anthropometric characteristics, initial admission complaints, disease duration and dietary compliance of the patients were documented. All EIMs that accompanied the celiac disease were recorded, and their relationship with risk factors was analyzed. The age range of the patients was 18-72 years, and the mean age was 33.4±10.6 years. One hundred seventy two (74.8%) patients were female and disease follow-up was 4.8±3.5 years. The number of patients with accompanying EIMs was 202 (87.8%). Osteoporosis/osteopenia was found in 146(63.5%) patients, oral involvement in 116(50.4%) patients, arthritis/arthralgia in 96(41.7%) patients as the most common comorbidities. It was determined that, there was a significant relationship between EIM and body mass index. Although the EIMs development was less in patients wh o had strict diet; however, this was not statistically significant. The majority of adult celiac patients were found to be accompanied by EIMs. The diagnosis is delayed due to various clinical presentations. Lack of delay in diagnosis of celiac disease and consequently reduced gluten exposure seem to be the only factor in preventing some EIMs © 2019, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. Our aim in the study was to investigate the relationship between blood group and other risk factors with HP eradication after HP eradication therapy. 104 patients who underwent gastrointestinal system endoscopy and received gastric tissue biopsies were enrolled in the study at our hospital between June 2017-December 2018. Demographic and histopathological data of all patients were documented. HP eradication was performed by giving Amoxicillin and Clarithromycin and Pantoprazole treatment to all patients. Patients were divided into two groups according to HP eradication. The relationship between HP eradication rate and blood groups and risk factors was analyzed. A total of 104 HP positivity was included in the study. The mean age of the patients was 47.7±14.6 years old. Fifty-two (50%) patients were women, the body mass index (BMI) was 27.6±4.7 (range:17.7-42.1). The distribution of blood groups were 49(47.1%) A, 13(12.5%) B, 9(8.7%) O, 33(31.7%) AB. HP eradication occurred in 70 (67.3%) patients after HP treatment. HP eradication rate was significantly higher in women, but there was no significant relation between HP eradication and age, BMI or blood groups. In conclusion, while there was a significant relationship between gender and HP eradication, no significant relationship was observed between ABO blood groups and HP eradication. © 2020, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. The diagnosis of atypical and subclinical celiac has also increased due to the development of immunological and genetic tests. The aim of our study is to determine the relationship between the presence of GIS and anemia, thyroid functions, and bone mineral density in celiac patients. The study included 230 celiac patients who were diagnosed and followed-up in our clinics between 2015-2019. The demographic and anthropometric characteristics, initial presentation complaints, disease durations, dietary compliance of the patients were documented. Presence of anemia, thyroid functions, bone mineral density were documented and its relationship with presence of GIS was analyzed. The age range of the patients was 18-65 years, and the mean age was 33,4±10,6 years. A total of 170(73.9%) patients were female and the duration of disease follow-up was 4,8±3,5 years. Osteoporosis/osteopenia was found in 146(63,5%) patients, anemia was found 65(28.3%) and thyroid dysfunction was found 58(25.2%). Patients without GIS were significantly more anemic than patients with GIS (39.1%, 24.1% respectively) (p<0.05). In terms of thyroid function tests, the rates were similar in both groups and there wasn't significant difference (p>0.05). Osteoporosis was significantly higher in patients with GIS (p<0.05). The number of patients with atypical celiac disease is increasing. Celiac disease should be considered in patients presenting with unexplained anemia, a history of thyroid disease, and abnormal bone density. © 2019, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. In this study, specific and nonspecific dermatoses of pregnancy were investigated in patients admitted with dermatologic complaints to the emergency department. This information will be useful in identifying common and important dermatoses of pregnancy that need to be recognized at the point of primary care, so that the proper initial treatment and referrals can be instituted. Pregnant patients admitted with dermatological complaints to the emergency service were enrolled in the study. We retrospectively collected clinical and laboratory findings, diagnoses, administered treatments and admission rates. Of the 4,280 pregnant patients admitted to the emergency service, 99 pregnant patients had dermatological complaints. While pregnancy-specific dermatoses were detected in 22 % of the patients, dermatoses nonspecific to the pregnancy were found in 78 % of them. Listed in descending order, specific dermatoses of pregnancy were atopic eruption of pregnancy (12%), polymorphic eruption of pregnancy (6%), intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (2%), and pemphigoid gestationis (2%). Urticaria and angioedema were the most frequently diagnosed diseases among the dermatoses nonspecific to the pregnancy. There are many dermatoses are seen in the pregnancy, while urticaria and angioedema are the most common. Atopic eruption of pregnancy and the polymorphic eruption of pregnancy are the most common specific dermatoses. It was seen that the frequency of dermatological causes was quite low among the pregnant patients applying to the emergency service. However, some of these dermatoses may necessitate early diagnosis and immediate treatment. © 2019, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. All rights reserved.
