Article Relationship Between Ocular Pseudoexfoliation and Sensorineural Hearing Loss(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2021) Tekin, S.; Batur, M.; Düzenli, U.; Seven, E.; Ozer, M.D.The purpose of this study is to evaluate the air and bone conductance rates in audiogram between healthy individuals and the patients having pseudoexfoliation (PEX). Patients with evidence of ocular PEX and controls were included in the study. Air conduction hearing thresholds (minimal perceptible sounds) were determined at frequencies of 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, 6000, 8000 Hz and bone conduction hearing thresholds were determined at frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 Hz for each ear. At these frequencies, air and bone conductance rates in audiogram were measured for patients with PEX and control group to analyze the relation between conductance rates and PEX cases. 86 participants were enrolled in this case-control study, in which 40 of them having PEX. The acquired results showed that the PEX group displayed significantly higher hearing tresholds in air conductance compared with control subjects a t frequencies of 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 Hz, but not at frequencies of 6000, 8000 Hz. Similar results were obtained in bone conduction thresholds as well, in terms of the tendency of decreasing significance level between the groups in higher frequencies. In our study, we have shown that there is a statistically significant sensorineural hearing loss in PEX patients comparing age control subjects. These findings are more significant in lower frequencies, and the significance level is decreased toward the higher frequencies. Based on these findings, we speculate that endolymphatic pressure increase could have a role in the pathogenesis of PEX related sensorineural hearing loss. © 2021, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. In addition to otologic diseases; mood disorders, inflammatory diseases, thromboembolic pathologies may lead to tinnitus. Mean platelet volume (MPV), Platelet Distribution Width (PDW) and Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) were investigated as biomarkers in tinnitus patients. In this study, we aimed to find whether there is any association between these biomarkers and bilateral tinnitus patients. Fifty eight with tinnitus and 58 healthy subjects were included to the study. The distribution of age and sex in each group were equal. Hearing thresholds of tinnitus patients were obtained with pure-tone audiometry. Hematologic values were evaluated in each group and correlation between these values and audiometric data were investigated in tinnitus patients. PDW values of the tinnitus group were found statistically significantly higher than those in control group (p=0.041). NLR was found lower in tinnitus patients and it was statistically significant (p=0.001). MPV values were found similar in each group. In tinnitus group there were no correlation between hematologic values and audiometric data. In this study, we found blood marker value alterations in bilateral tinnitus patients, but there was no correlation with audiologic data. And so we need larger studies to obtain more significant results. © 2018, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. Inflammation has been proposed in the development of tympanosclerosis. The mean platelet volume (MPV), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and red cell distribution width (RDW) are most common markers of systemic inflammation. Fourty patients who diagnosed tympanosclerosis intraoperatively and 35 subjects without tympanosclerosis were enrolled in this retrospective study. The MPV, RDW, neutrophil and lymphocyte as well as platelet counts were evaluated from complete blood counts in both trial participants. NLR was calculated. The purpose of this research was to determine blood systemic inflammatory markers in patients with tympanosclerosis. The average age of patients with tympanosclerosis was 23.4±9.2 years, and it was found 24.7± 8.9 years in subjects without tympanosclerosis. There were 21 female and 19 male in subjects with tympanosclerosis and 17 female and 18 male in subjects without tympanosclerosis. Two groups have similar results with respect to age and gender. There was no important difference between two research participants with respect to the MPV, RDW and NLR (p>0.05). We could not find any association between the markers of blood systemic inflammatory and tympanosclerosis. Therefore, tympanosclerosis does not seem to change the systemic inflammation. © 2019, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. It can hold most of the lungs and other tissues and organs. In this study, we aimed to offer the clinical and demographic data of TB patients who were followed-up in our province between 2012 and 2018. In our province, tuberculosis dispensary records were examined retrospectively between 2012 and 2018. Of 249 patients, 125 (50.2%) were females and 124 (49.8%) were males. The mean age of the patients was 37.5 years. There were 132 (53%) patients with pulmonary tuberculosis, 112 (45%) with extrapulmonary tuberculosis and 5 (2%) patients with both pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis. 239 cases (96%) were new cases and 10 (4%) patients had recurrence. While 109 (43.8%) of the patients had smear positivity, 13 patients (5.4%) were diagnosed with pleural biopsy and 87 (34.6%) patients were diagnosed histopathologically with lymph and other organ biopsies. In 13 (5.4%) patients, only ADA elevation and 27 (10.8%) patients were diagnosed clinically and radiologic. 111 (44.6%) patients had no contact and 38 (15.3%) patients had a history of in-house or out-of-home contact. In addition, 100 (40.2%) patients had no known contact. 101 of our patients have studied culture, 20 of them have culture negativity, 81 of them have culture positivity. 5 patients had rifampicin resistance, 4 had streptomycin resistan ce, 5 had ethambutol resistance and 11 had isoniazid resistance. While 6 (2.4%) patients were dead, 78 (31.3%) patients were cured. Treatment success was achieved in 153 (61.5%) patients and treatment was abandoned in 8 (3.2%) patients. Tuberculosis is a disease that affects especially young people. Early diagnosis and treatment of TB patients are especially important for infectious diseases. © 2019, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. All rights reserved.
