Article Chewing Lice (Phthiraptera: Amblycera, Ischnocera) on Several Species of Wild Birds Around the Lake Van Basin, Van, Eastern Turkey(Kafkas Univ, veteriner Fakultesi dergisi, 2015) Goz, Yasar; Dik, Bilal; Kilinc, Ozlem Orunc; Yilmaz, Ali Bilgin; Aslan, LogmanThis study was performed to detect chewing lice on the wild birds in Eastern Turkey, between April 2013-September 2014. 108 injured birds brought to Wild Animal Protection Center of Yuzuncu Yil University were examined for louse. The feathers of each bird specimens were inspected for louse, macroscopically. Collected lice samples on the birds were preserved in 70% ethyl alcohol and mounted on slides in Canada balsam after transparented in 10% KOH. Fifteen (14.95%) out of the 108 were found to be infested with at least one chewing louse species. Nineteen lice species in 15 genera were found on the infested birds. Goniocotes megalocephalus (Uchida, 1916) on the Helmeted Guineafowl (Numida meleagris); Actornithophilus piceus lari (Packard, 1870) on the Armenian Gull (Larus armenicus); Kurodaia fulvofasciata (Piaget, 1880) on the Long-legged Buzzard (Buteo rufinus); Laemobothrion sp. on the Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos); Trinoton anserinum (Fabricius [J.C.], 1805) and Holomenopon sp. on the Greylag Goose (Anser anser) were recorded for the first time from Turkey in this study.Article First Case of Trichodectes Pinguis (Phthiraptera: Ischnocera: Trichodectidae) on a Bear (Ursus Arctos) in Turkey(2015) Dik, Bilal; Kılınç, Özlem OrunçBu makale Doğu Türkiye'de, Van yöresinde yaralı olarak bulunan bir Bozayıdan (Ursus arctos, L.) toplanan Trichodectes pinguis Burmeister, 1838'in morfolojik özellikleri hakkında bilgi vermek amacıyla hazırlanmıştır. Ayıdan üç adet bit toplanmış ve bitler T. pinguis olarak teşhis edilmiştir. Bu makalede bu türün morfolojik özellikleri hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. T. pinguis Türkiye'den ilk kez bildirilmektedirArticle Identification and Molecular Characterization of Otobius Megnini (Ixodida: Argasidae) Seen in Humans in Mus Province, Turkey(Acarological Society Iran, 2022) Karakus, Ayse; Yilmaz, Ali Bilgin; Karaca, Servet; Dik, Bilal; Denizhan, VuralOtobius megnini (Ixodida: Argasidae) is a cosmopolitan soft tick that parasitizes humans as well as domestic and wild animals. The larval and nymph stages of this tick usually feed by parasitizing in the ear canal. The material of this study consists of ticks collected during ear cleaning in approximately 496 people coming with the complaint of ear pain in state hospitals in Bulanik and Malazgirt districts of Mud province, eastern Turkey. As a result of microscopic examination performed on ticks collected from humans, O. megnini tick was determined and molecular identification was made for definitive diagnosis. The 16S rRNA gene fragment of the tick was amplified by PCR. Obtained PCR products were 360 bp. The PCR products were analyzed by sequence analysis and compared with the reference sequences in the BLAST and Genbank. A phylogenetic tree was created with MEGA 7 software using Maximum Likelihood model. As a result, the previously identified Otobius megnini in Turkey, was confirmed using molecular methods for the first time.
