Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the residual alveolar bone height and bone width at different depths from the central tooth region to the second molar tooth region in maxillary totally edentulous individuals. Methods: This retrospective observational radiographic study was performed on cone beam computed tomography images of patients who presented to the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery for dental implant evaluation between January 2010 and March 2023. Horizontal measurements were taken on sagittal cross-sectional images at vertical depths of 1 mm, 3 mm, 5 mm and 7 mm from the alveolar crest. Vertical measurements were made by measuring the distance between the crest of the alveolar ridge and the base of the nose or the base of the maxillary sinus. The results were evaluated with 95% confidence interval and significance at p<0.05 level. Results: Of the 104 patients included in the study, 42 were male and 62 were female and their age ranged from 36 to 90 years with a mean age of 50.88±10.28 years. The mean change of 0.46±1.83 units in the vertical measurements on the left side compared to the right side in the lateral region was statistically significant (p<0.05). Bone height was greater in the right and left central regions than in the 2nd premolar, 1st molar and 2nd molar regions (p<0.05). Bone width was greater in the 2nd premolar, 1st molar and 2nd molar regions and on the left side at depths of 1, 3 and 5 mm (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study was the first to compare residual bone height and width at 1, 3, 5 and 7 mm depth from the central region to the second molar region in individuals with complete maxillary edentulism. The study showed that the loss of horizontal bone width as a result of alveolar crest resorption in edentulous patients was advanced and the need for horizontal augmentation was very high in this group of patients being considered for dental implant surgery.

Evaluation of the Efficacy of Different Drug Combinations in Individuals With Acute Dental Pain
    (2024) Doğru, İbrahim; Ciğerim, Levent
Bu araştırmanın amacı akut dental ağrı tedavisinde naproksen sodyum + kodein fosfat (550/30 mg) ve deksketoprofen trometamol + parasetamol (25/300 mg) ilaçlarının etkinliğini değerlendirmektir. Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi, Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi, Ağız, Diş ve Çene Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı'na alt yarı gömülü yirmilik dişten kaynaklı akut perikoronitis şikayeti ile başvuran 62 hasta çalışmaya dahil edildi. Hastalar randomize olarak iki gruba ayrılarak A grubuna naproksen sodyum + kodein fosfat (550/30 mg), B grubuna deksketoprofen trometamol + parasetamol (25/300 mg) verilerek ilk dozdan itibaren 6., 12., 18., 24. saatlerde ve 2., 3., 4., 5., 6. ve 7. günlerde hissettikleri ağrıyı VAS skoruna kaydetmeleri istendi. Toplanan veriler SPSS programı kullanılarak istatistiksel olarak analiz edilip yorumlandı. Çalışmadaki bireylerin 51'i kadın, 11'i erkekti ve yaş ortalamaları 22,94'tü. A ve B gruplarında ise yaş ortalamaları sırasıyla 23,74±5.4 ve 22,45±5,6 idi. A grubundaki hastaların %12,9' u erkek iken, kadın sayısı oranı ise %87,1'di. Buna karşılık, B grubundaki erkek ve kadın sayısı oranları sırasıyla %22,6 ve %77,4' tü. Her iki grubun başlangıç VAS değerleri benzer bulundu.

Evaluation of the Relationship Between Tmd Pain and Toothache and Dental Anxiety
(2024) Orhan, Zeynep Dilan; Ciğerim, Levent; Güzel, Mehmet; Doğru, İbrahim; Kahraman, Nazlı Hilal; Husseın, Abdalrahım; Baş, Hayrettin
Aims: The aims of the study were to evaluate the relationship between pain experienced and dental anxiety in patients presenting to the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery with tootache and TMD pain. Methods: This retrospective, observational study was conducted on patients who applied to the oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic between January and June 2022. Patients were divided into 2 groups according to the reason for visiting the clinic. Patients in group 1 had toothache and patients in group 2 had temporomandibular disorder pain. Pain was assessed by VAS and dental anxiety by MDAS. The statistical significance level was accepted as p<0.05. Results: Of the 108 patients included in the study, 56 were female and 52 were male, and the mean age was 34.71±14.66 years. It was found that the VAS scores were negatively and weakly correlated with age (r=-0.203, p=0.035), there was a positive and weak correlation between the patients’ VAS and MDAS scores (r=0.265, p=0.006), and the VAS scores of the patients with toothache were higher (p<0.05). Conclusion: In this study, it was observed that individuals presenting to the clinic with toothache had higher pain levels. It was found that as patients pain levels increased, so did their dental anxiety scores.
