Article Analgesic and Hepatoprotective Effects of Chelidonium Majus L(University of Ankara, 2007) Sever Yilmaz, B.; Özbek, H.; Saltan Çitoǧlu, G.; Uǧraş, S.; Bayram, I.; Erdoǧan, E.Water extract of Chelidonium majus L. (CM) was investigated for analgesic effect in mice and hepatoprotective effect in rats. Analgesic activity of the extract was tested using tail-flick test. Mice were injected CM intraperitoneally (i.p.) in doses of 50 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg end 200 mg/kg. Pain tresholds were measured with tail-flick test before administration and at 30th, 90th and 150th minutes after treatment. Hepatoprotective activity of CM on carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced acute liver toxicity was also studied. Rats were injected CM i.p. in doses of 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg. CM had no analgesic activity at 50 and 100 mg/kg doses. However at 200 mg/kg dose, it produced higher analgesic activity than aspirin at 90th minute. At the 150th minute, its analgesic activity was equal to that of aspirin. CM (100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg) showed no significant influence on the increased levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and bilirubine in CCl4 treated animals. Histopathological examination did not reveal any significant difference between CM (100 mg/kg) and CCl4 groups. The results of this study clearly indicate that C. majus. has analgesic activity at 200 mg/kg dose in mice. However C. majus. has no hepatoprotective effect against carbon tetrachloride-induced liver toxicity in rats.Article Hepatoprotective Effect of Foeniculum Vulgare Essential Oil: a Carbon-Tetrachloride Induced Liver Fibrosis Model in Rats(2004) Öbek, H.; Uǧraş, S.; Bayram, I.; Uygan, I.; Erdoǧan, E.; Öztürk, A.; Huyut, Z.Hepatoprotective activity of Foeniculum vulgare (fennel) essential oil was studied using a carbon tetrachloride-induced liver fibrosis model in rats. The hepatotoxicity produced by chronic carbon tetrachloride administration was found to be inhibited by Foeniculum vulgare essential oil with evidence of decreased levels of serum aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin. Histopathological findings also suggest that Foeniculum vulgare essential oil prevents the development of chronic liver damage. The changes in body weights in the rats assigned to the study groups supported these biochemical and histopathological findings. The results of this study clearly indicate that Foeniculum vulgare essential oil has a potent hepatoprotective action against carbon tetrachloride-induced liver fibrosis in rats.Article A Morphological Study in Broiler Chick Hearts(1997) Aydinlioǧlu, A.; Raǧbetli, M.Ç.; Uǧraş, S.; Erdoǧan, E.The normally developing cardiovascular system of the chicken resembles that of the human. The purpose of the present study is to investigate some macroscopic and microscopic similarities between the chick and the human heart. For this study 20 adult and 10 newborn Broiler chickens were used. The heart and great vessels were routinely fixed in 10% formaldehyde in a phosphate buffer. Five adult and five newborn chicks hearts were embedded in paraffin. All section were examined by light microscopy. The atrioventricular valve of 15 adult chick hearts were examined macroscopically. While some structures previously reported were determined, two different properties of the mural leaf which are chordae tendineae in its posterolateral region anchoring at the right ventricle and its widening from the anterior to posterior commissure was also observed.
