Article Feasibility of Clear-Up Strips in the Diagnosis of Demodex and Sarcoptes Mites(Health & Environment Assoc, 2019) Ayan, Adnan; Erdogan, Songul; Ural, Kerem; Erdogan, Hasan; Gul, GizemIn the present study, it was aimed to compare the atraumatic Nivea nasal clear-up (NNC) band and traumatic deep skin scraping test (DSST) for the diagnosis of Demodex canis or Sarcoptes scabiei in dogs. A total of 12 specimens were collected from six dogs diagnosed with demodicosis (n=5) or sarcoptic mange infestation (n=1) between September-December 2016 with both techniques. The total number of mites in demodectic dogs with two different methods (NNC) band and DSST were 286 and 159, respectively. In addition, only four eggs were identified with DSST, while 16 adult mites and eight eggs were identified with (NNC) band in a dog with sarcoptic mange. When both technical comparative interpretations are made, it can be said that (NNC) band might be a method which can easily be used in the diagnosis of both diseases and might be used more frequently than DSST. In addition, the atraumatic formation of the application may increase satisfaction of the patient owner.Article Giardia Duodenalis ile Doğal Enfekte Oğlaklarda Serum 25- Hidroksi Vitamin D3 Düzeylerinin Değerlendirilmesi(2020) Erdoğan, Songül; Ural, Kerem; Özalp, Tahir; Erdogan, Hasan; Günal, İsmail; Ayan, Adnan; Ural, Deniz AlicBu çalışmada ishalli oğlaklarda 25-hidroksi vitamin D3 seviyelerinin belirlenmesi amaçlandı. Bu amaçla 10 ishalli (grup I) ve 10 sağlıklı (grup II) oğlaktan kan örnekleri toplandı. Giardiazisin tanısında mikroskobik muayene ve hızlı tanı test kitlerinden yararlanıldı. Ortalama 25-hidroksi vitamin $D_3$ seviyeleri ishalli grupta 33,37 ng/mL iken sağlıklılarda 86,78 ng/mL olarak ölçüldü ve bu farklılık istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulundu (p<0.001). Sonuç olarak giardiazis ilişkili intestinal malabsorbsiyonların D vitamin seviyesinde şiddetli azalmalara neden olabileceği ve anti-giardiyal sağaltım yanında antimikrobiyel etkilerinden dolayı vitamin D takviyelerinin uygun ve yeterli dozda sağaltım rejimlerine eklenmesi gerektiği kanaati oluştu.Article Kedide Notoedrik Uyuzun Teşhisinde Temizleyici Bant Uygulaması(2020) Ural, Kerem; Erdogan, Hasan; Pasa, Serdar; Gültekin, Mehmet; Erdoğan, Songül; Ayan, AdnanBu vaka sunumunda bir kedide notoedrik uyuz kesin tanısında burun temizleme bandının kullanımı tanımlandı. Bir buçuk yaşlı tekir ırkı kedi baş sallama, kaşıntı ve kulak kanalında kirli akıntı şikâyetleri ile kliniğimize getirildi. Kulak kanalından koton svap uygulaması ile örnek alındı. Karşılaştırma amacıyla burun temizleme bandı kulak kanalı iki parmak arasında sıkıştırılarak yapıştırıldı. Her iki tanı tekniğinde koton svap ile 6, burun bant ile de 9 yetişkin akar tespit edilerek notoedrik uyuz tanısı konuldu. Sağaltımda, haftada bir kez olmak üzere toplamda 4 kez intraaurikular eprinomektin uygulaması önerildi ve 1. hafta eprinomektin uygulamasıyla beraber gerçekleştirilen parazitolojik muayenede canlı akar görülmemesi ve klinik iyileşme başladığı görüldü.Article Prevalance and Molecular Characterization of Giardia Duodenalis in Livestock in Van, Turkey(Health & Environment Assoc, 2019) Ayan, Adnan; Ural, Deniz Alic; Erdogan, Hasan; Kilinc, Ozlem Orunc; Gultekin, Mehmet; Ural, KeremGiardia duodenalis (Giardia lambia, Giardia intestinalis), a flagellated parasite, is a gastrointestinal pathogen that affects public health worldwide. There are limited studies on the epidemiology and molecular characterization of G. duodenalis in farm animals in Turkey. Molecular characterization is requited to determine the zoonotic potential of Giardia infection. In the present study, 71 calf 50 lamb, and 66 goat fecal stool samples were obtained from the animal rectum using a disposable latex glove and the samples were transferred to the laboratory. Then, the presence of cysts was examined with a microscope using of saturated zinc sulfate flotation method (ZnSO4; 33%). Afterwards, the samples were scanned with ELISA-based rapid diagnostic test kits for diagnosis. Then, DNA was extracted with QIAamp DNA Stool Mini Kit (Qiagen, Germany). Nested PCR was then conducted with the corresponding primers. DNA sequence analysis was conducted on beta-giardin gene region of each PCR positive samples. Then, sequence analyses were blasted and compared with the access numbers in the gene bank (M36728 for sub-genotype A1, AY072723 for sub-genotype A2, for AY072724 sub-genotype A3, AY072725 for subgenotype B1, AY072726 for sub-genotype B2, AY072727 for sub-genotype B3, AY072728 for sub-genotype B4). In the microscopic examination, Giardia cysts were identified in 41 calves, 18 lambs, and 23 goats. Positivity was determined with rapid test kits in 38 calves, 16 lambs, and 20 goats. In nested PCR results, specific bands (511 bp) were obtained in 46 calves, 21 lambs and 24 goats. Sequencing findings demonstrated Assemblage A and subgenotype A3 presence in all animal samples. The importance of treatment and the need to take protective measures due to its zoonotic importance were emphasized.
