Article Effects of Hybrid Drying on Kinetics, Energy Analysis and Bioactive Properties of Sour Black Mulberry (Morus Nigra L.)(inst Tecnologia Parana, 2023) Cetin, Necati; Turan, Sibel; Gurcan, Kahraman; Turkay, Seyda Nur; Duman, Suheda; Karaman, KevserDue to the short harvest season and their sensitivity to storage, the preservation of fresh mulberry fruits is a very important process. Drying is a method used to preserve mulberry fruits in the long term. In this study, response surface methodology (RSM) was applied for the optimization of hybrid drying conditions of two different sour black mulberries. The linear and interaction effects of independent parameters such as temperature (50, 60 and 70 & DEG;C) and microwave power (100, 200 and 300 W) variables were determined on mulberries. Bioactive properties and energy aspects were monitored as influenced by drying conditions. According to the results increase in microwave power provided a significant decrement in the specific energy consumption (SEC) and the total anthocyanin content (TAC), while increase in the energy efficiency (& eta;en) and total phenolic content (TPC) for both genotypes. In all cases, statistical values showed that all drying curves of black mulberry were best described by the Logistic model. Multiple response optimization was carried out for studied parameters and it was concluded that maximum antiradical activity (ARA), TPC, TAC, & eta;en and minimum drying time (DT) and SEC values would be at 300 W-50 oC (desirability=0.842) and 300 W-66.5 oC (desirability=0.744), for Morus nigra 1 (MN1) and Morus nigra 2 (MN2), respectively. According to the finding, the greatest TPC, ARA, TAC, DT, SEC and & eta;en were determined as 20.10 mg GAE/g, 86.00%, 456 mg/kg, 330 min, 18.59 kWh/kg and 9.04% for MN1, and 18.08 mg GAE/g, 83.92%, 835.81 mg/kg, 330 min, 16.16 kWh/kg and 10.40 % for MN2, respectively.Article Evaluation of Genetic Diversity in Some Hybrid Individuals of Honeyberry (Lonicera Caerulea L.) Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the genetic diversity in some hybrid individuals of honeyberry (Lonicera caerulea L.) based on fruit characteristics, leaf morphology, vitamin C, antioxidant activity, biochemical, and nutritional content. In this context, superior quality individuals have been identified based on the 42 variables examined in our study. These hybrid individuals can be economically incorporated into production after the registration stages, and their sustainability for use in breeding programs can also be ensured.ResultsThe fruit weight ranged from 0.71 ('H11') to 1.66 g ('H6'). The ascorbic acid varied between 17.13 ('H7') and 20.64 mg AAE/100 g ('H15'). The antioxidant activity changed between 12.59 ('Store') and 15.03 mu mol Trolox g-1 ('Aurea'). The total anthocyanins were found to be highest in 'Borrel Beast' (163.79 mg cyn-3-gluc 100 g-1), followed by 'H8' (163.20 mg cyn-3-gluc 100 g-1). The highest nutrient levels in the fruits were found in the 'H10' individual, with calcium (2445.77 mg kg-1), potassium (2274.36 mg kg-1), phosphorus (2123.27 mg kg-1), magnesium (1263.95 mg kg-1), and sulfur (859.62 mg kg-1), respectively. The highest nutrient levels in the leaves were found in the 'H14' individual for calcium (19,493.21 mg kg-1), 'H5' for magnesium (5643.52 mg kg-1), 'H8' for sulfur (2312.11 mg kg-1), 'H6' for phosphorus (2007.51 mg kg-1), and 'H6' for potassium (1099.32 mg kg-1). In general, the nutrients in the fruit exhibited significant correlations among themselves at different levels (*, **, ***). Within the scope of principal component analysis, the first 8 principal components explained 80.69% of the total variance. According to the cluster and population analyses, it was determined that there was a high variation in subgroup B2. Additionally, although honeyberry is a relatively new fruit in T & uuml;rkiye, efforts have begun to develop new cultivars through hybrid breeding.ConclusionsWhen 42 variables were evaluated together to determine genetic diversity, hybrid individuals 'H14', 'H5', 'H8', and 'H1' were identified as superior individuals, respectively.Article Molecular and Agro-Morphological Characterization of Ancient Wheat Landraces of Turkey(Biomed Central Ltd, 2017) Gurcan, Kahraman; Demirel, Fatih; Tekin, Mehmet; Demirel, Serap; Akar, TanerBackground: Turkey is one of the important gene centers for many crop species. In this research, some ancient wheats such as tetraploid and diploid hulled wheats together with hexaploid tir wheats (Triticum aestivum ssp. leucospermum Korn.) landraces mainly adapted to harsh winter conditions of Eastern Anatolian region of Turkey were characterized at agro-morphological and molecular level. Totally 50 hulled wheat population from Kastamonu, Konya and Kayseri provinces and 15 tir wheats from Kars provinces of Turkey were in-situ collected for characterization in 2013. Some quantitative and qualitative traits of each population were determined. Results: Twenty three hulled wheat population collected from Kastamonu province were distinguished into nine emmer and 14 einkorn wheats at morphological level. Additionally, Konya, Kayseri and Kars population were characterized as einkorn, emmer and tir wheat, respectively. Among the evaluated traits, protein ratios of hulled wheats were strikingly higher than registered cultivars. All the populations were also examined by molecular level by using fluorescently labelled 11 polymorphic SSRs primers. The primers exhibited 104 bands, ranging from 6 to 16 with a mean value 9.45 per loci. The clustering analysis separated the germplasm into two clusters which were also divided into two subclusters based on genetic similarity coefficient. Sixty-five population and five checks were analyzed to estimate mean number of alleles (N), expected and observed heterozygoties (He and Ho), polymorphism information content (PIC), Wright fix index (F), genetic deviation from Hardy-Weinberg expectation (Fit-Fis) and genetic variation (Fst) were determined as 9.45, 0.71, 0.07, 0.67, 0.90, 0.39, 0.87 and 0.39, respectively. A clear genetic deviation from Hardy - Weinberg expectation was observed among population in particular. These results showed considerable genetic variation among landraces rather than within population. Conclusions: These molecular information has revealed genetically diverse einkorn, emmer wheat and tir wheat population could be used as parents for further breeding studies in both Turkey and abroad. Furthermore, the molecular analysis has also generally discriminated the germplasm into ploidy level.
