Article Determination of Salicin Content of Some Salix L. Species by Hplc Method(Chiminform Data S A, 2007) Guvenc, Aysegul; Arihan, Okan; Altun, M. Levent; Dinc, Erdal; Baleanu, DumitruIn this paper, we find the salicin content of the nine species of Salix L from the province of Ankara, Turkey, namely Salix triandra, S. alba, S. excelsa, S. fragilis, S. babylonica, S. caprea, S. cinerea, S. pseudomedemii and S. amplexicaulis. A simple HPLC method was applied to the determination of Salicin of these nine species in barks and leaves of female and male. Chromatographic separation was carried out by a mobile phase consisting of bidistilled water, tetrahydrofuran and ortho-phosphoric acid (97.7: 1.8: 0.5) (v/v/v). The salicin amount of these samples was analyzed by measuring the peak area at the wavelength, 270 nm. A reversed phase phenyl column (250 x 4.6mm, 5 mu m) was used and flow rate was set to 1 ml/min. in an isocratic elution. The results provided 6 HPLC method was found in agreement with those indicated by European Pharmacopoeia. It was observed that S. babylonica female bark sample possess the highest salicin content (2.675), while S. caprea female bark (0.058) has the lowest salicin content as w/w (%).Article Investigation on the Seeds of Iris Spuria L. Subsp Musulmanica (Fomin) Takht. (Iridaceae)(Turkish Pharmacists Assoc, 2005) Guvenc, Aysegul; Kurucu, Semra; Koyuncu, Mehmet; Arihan, Okan; Erdurak, Ceyda Sibel40 species and 49 taxa of the genus Iris are growing naturally in Turkey (1-3). I. spuria L. subsp. musulmanica (Fomin) Takht., is one of the the 10 species of Limniris section and grows wildly in Eastern Anatolia. Plant material was collected from Van-Ercis road. Besides the morphological and anatomical investigation; oil content and methyl esters of fatty acids of the seed oils were examined in this study for the first time. Fatty Acid methyl esters were prepared according to the method of Metcalfe et al. (13) from the oil obtained by the Soxhelet apparatus with n-hexane. Analysis of the methyl esters have been carried out with GC-MS. Myristic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid, Stearic Acid, Oleic and Arachidic Acid were determined as the main fatty acids in the oil. Seeds were rich in Linoleic (40 %) and Oleic Acid (30 %).Article Studies on the Anatomical Structure of Stems of Willow (Salix L.) Species (Salicaceae) Growing in Ankara Province, Turkey(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2011) Arihan, Okan; Guvenc, AysegulThis study was conducted on the anatomical structure of the stems of 9 Salix L. (willow) species (9 taxa) growing in Ankara, Turkey. These taxa are S. triandra L. subsp. triandra, S. alba L., S. excelsa J.F.Gmel., S. fragilis L., S. babylonica L., S. caprea L., S. cinerea L., S. pseudomedemii E.Wolf, and S. amplexicaulis Bory & Chaub. Illustrations and photographs were obtained of microscopic views of cross sections from the stems of each taxon. The differing anatomical structures of stems of the Salix species are suitable for use as an additional tool in identification. Our aim was to contribute information on anatomy for the taxonomy of this highly variable genus. The anatomical study of these 9 species does not indicate significant separations in morphological observations but instead yields data that can be used in taxonomy.
