Article The Effects Mcgrath® Mac Video Laryngoscope Assisted Education on the Endotracheal Intubation Practices of Undergraduate Anesthesia Medicine Students: a Randomized, Controlled Attempt(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2021) Kaplan, H.S.; Üney, İ.H.Endotracheal intubation is an important step in maintaining the open status of the airway and in controlling breathing. Every doctor should have the ability to manage the airway; and this skill should be taught to doctors in their medical training. In the present study, the effect of the training on medical students with video laryngoscope and direct laryngoscope on endotracheal intubation success was examined. A total of 66 students who had no previous endotracheal intubation experience and who received anesthesiology internship were included in the study. The students were randomly divided into 2 groups. The intubation with video laryngoscope was applied after intubation with direct laryngoscope in Group D, and the intubation with direct laryngoscope was applied after intubation with video laryngoscope in Group V. The intubation times and success rates were recorded in all attempts. The time between the first and second attempts of students in Group V decreased significantly (p<0.001). The first attempt times between the direct laryngoscope and video laryngoscope groups were very close to each other. Our study showed that training medical students using the McGrath® MAC video laryngoscope yields better results than using direct laryngoscopy. © 2021, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. However, the effects of sugammadex on coagulation in pregnant women have not been adequately evaluated. This study investigated the effects of sugammadex administration on routine coagulation tests and levels of coagulation factors (FII, FV, FVII, FVIII, FIX, and FX) in pregnant rats. After ethics committee approval (2019/06), 24 female Wistar albino rats (n = 12; 19–20 days of gestation; weight 230–380 g) were randomly divided into four groups: control (n = 6), sugammadex (n = 6), pregnant (n = 6), and pregnant sugammadex (n = 6). Ketamine (50 mg/kg) and xylazine (10 mg/kg) were administered intraperitoneally to all groups. Saline (SF) (1 ml/kg) was administered to the control and pregnant groups. Sugammadex was administered to the sugammadex and pregnant sugammadex groups at a dose of 16 mg/kg. Blood samples were collected at 30 min after SF and sugammadex administration in all rats. The levels of PT, INR, aPTT, fibrinogen and coagulation factors were measured in plasma obtained from blood samples. All animals were sacrificed by cervical dislocation after the procedure. The mean weights of the rats were significantly higher in the pregnant groups (pregnant and pregnant sugammadex groups) than in the non-pregnant groups (control and sugammadex groups). The mean PT and INR values were significantly lower in the pregnant than non-pregnant groups. No significant differences were observed in any of the parameters evaluated between the sugammadex-and SF-administered groups. Sugammadex administration did not affect routine coagulation tests or the levels of coagulation factors in pregnant rats. © 2021, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. Observational prospective study. The perioperative records of 13 patients who underwent mitral valve repair using the Neochord DS1000 system were analyzed. Hemodynamic measurements recorded with the Vigileo Flotrac invasive arterial cardiac output system were evaluated. Thirteen patients were included in the study. Transfusions of a total of 2 U of erythrocytes and 11 U of plasma were performed. After Neochord implantation, the mean cardiac output increased at a statistically significant level according to the values measured after induction p = 0.003. Increased cardiac output measurement after placement of the neochordaes and elimination of insufficiency have emerged as indications of early hemodynamic recovery. © 2020, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi.
