The Association Between Depression, Perceived Stress, and Sexual Function Among Adults Attending Primary Health Care Services
(BioMed Central Ltd, 2026) Kaplan, M.; Uçar, M.; Yigit, M.F.
Background: Sexual function is an integral component of overall well-being and is influenced by both biological and psychosocial factors. While psychological distress is known to affect health outcomes broadly, its specific impact on sexual function among adults attending primary health care services has not been well established. This study aims to examine the relationships between sexual functioning and depression, perceived stress, and sociodemographic variables among adults aged 18-45 who attend primary healthcare services, and to determine whether these psychological variables significantly predict sexual functioning. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted between January and March 2025 in five randomly selected family health centres located in Türkiye. The study was completed with a total of 573 participants. Data were collected using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) to assess levels of depression, the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10) to measure perceived stress, and the Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale (ASEX) to evaluate sexual functioning. Statistical analyses included independent samples t-tests, one-way analysis of variance, correlation analyses, and multiple regression analyses to explore relationships between psychological factors and sexual health outcomes. Results: Analysis of ASEX scores by sociodemographic characteristics revealed significant differences among both male and female participants (p < 0.01). Correlation analyses showed no significant relationship between ASEX and BDI or PSS-10 scores in men, whereas significant positive correlations were found in women. Regression analyses indicated that BDI and PSS-10 explained only 0.3% of the variance in ASEX scores in men (adjusted R2 = 0.003; p = 0.09), while their explanatory power was higher in women (adjusted R2 = 0.114; p < 0.01). Conclusions: The results indicate that the psychological variables assessed (depression and perceived stress) predict sexual functioning to a greater extent in women than in men. These findings highlight the importance of considering psychological factors such as depression and stress in the assessment of sexual functioning, particularly among female patients, and underscore the value of integrating such considerations into primary care services. Psychological assessments using tools like the BDI and PSS-10 may contribute to a better understanding of risk factors related to sexual functioning and support more holistic approaches within primary care settings. © The Author(s) 2025.

Determination of Harmful and Beneficial Predator Insect Species and the Distribution and Density of Eurygaster Integriceps Puton (Hemiptera: Scutelleridae) in Wheat-Cultivated Areas of Siirt Province
(Plant Protection Central Research Institute, 2023) Dilmen, H.; Kaplan, C.; Özgökçe, M.S.; Çiftçi, M.C.; Özer Dilmen, M.; Pala, F.; Kaplan, M.
Wheat is nowadays the most important source of food on earth. Many pest species have been identified that affect wheat yield and quality negatively. This study was conducted to identify harmful and beneficial insect (predator) species and of the distribution of Sunn pest in wheat cultivation areas in the districts (Siirt province Merkez, Kurtalan, Eruh, Tillo, Şirvan, Pervari, and Baykan) of Siirt Province, Türkiye in 2018 and 2019. Samplings were taken periodically for 1-2 weeks from April to July. The sweep nets, frame, pitfall trap, and visual control methods were used for sampling. At the end of the study, 42 species belonging to 6 orders and 25 families were determined. The distributions of the species were recorded as 27 species belonging to 12 families in Coleoptera, 10 species belonging to 7 families in Hemiptera, 2 species belonging to 2 families in Neuroptera, and 1 species belonging to each family in Hymenoptera, Orthoptera and Diptera. The most common and abundant species: the main pest Eurygaster integriceps Puton, 1881 (Hemiptera: Scutelleridae), the secondary pests Aelia acuminata (Linnaeus, 1758), Dolycoris baccarum (Linnaeus, 1758) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), Cephus pygmaeus (Linnaeus, 1767) (Hymenoptera: Cephidae) Gryllus bimaculatus De Geer, 1773, (Orthoptera: Gryllidae) were determined. In the study, a total of 16 species were identified, which is the first record for the local fauna of Siirt province. The highest average density of E. integriceps (2 adult + nymph/m2) was found in the Garzan and Gozpinari locations of the Kurtalan district. Besides, among the beneficial species, general predators Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens, 1836) and Coccinella septempunctata (Linnaeus, 1758) are remark as the most common species. © 2023, Plant Protection Central Research Institute. The Effects of Perioperative Autotraiisfusion on Postoperative Blood Transfusion in Cardiopulmonary Bypass Patients
(Turkish Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Society, 2017) Gür, A.K.; Eker, E.; Yargi, M.; Kaplan, M.
Objective: It is known that cardiopulmonary bypass has negative effects on patient blood values during cardiac surgeries. In our study, we aimed to investigate the effects of acute normovolemic hemodilution in patients who underwent coronary artery bypass surgery. Material and Method: In our study we included a total number of 40 patients who underwent elective coronary arter)' bypass grafting using a cardiopulmonary bypass in Siyami Ersek Chest and Cardiovascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital. Male, and female patients whose preoperative hematocrit values ivere ≥36% and, ≥ 40% were included in our study. Results: Group 1 (n=20) consisted of 18 male and 2 female patients with a mean age of 54.7±6 years who received autotraiisfusion. Control group (Group 2: n=20), consisted of 17 male, and 3 female patients with a mean age of 58.1±9 years. Hematocrit values were found to be lower in the autotraiisfusion group during the cardiopulmonary bypass procedure than those of the control group, and higher at the end of the operation and at the discharge from the hospital (p<0.05). Conclusion: In our study, if there were no additional comorbidities in patients who will undergo open heart surgery, blood drawn for autotraiisfusion during the perioperative period reduced the need for allogeneic blood during the postoperative period. Based on all these factors, we think that autotraiisfusion in cardiac surgery can be performed safely because of its positive effects on hemodynamics, metabolic and functional outcomes.
