Article The Effect of Hcg Administration on Reproductive Performance in Undernourished Lactating Hair Goats Synchronized During Non-Breeding Season(veterinarni A Farmaceuticka Univerzita Brno, 2024) Cetin, Nebi; Kosal, Volkan; Kuru, Mushap; Oner, Ahmet Cihat; Eski, FundaThis study aimed to assess the effects of short and long synchronization protocols, combined with post-synchronization human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) administration, on the reproductive performance of lactating hair goats during the non-breeding season, considering their inadequate pasture conditions. A total of 60 goats were randomly divided into four groups used for 5 days in G1 and G2 and 12 days in G3 and G4. All received a 500 IU pregnant mare's serum gonadotropin (PMSG) injection 48 h before sponge removal and were exposed to bucks 12 h later. Groups G2 and G4 received a 500 IU hCG injection on the eighth day after mating. Groups G1 and G3 did not receive any application after mating. Blood samples were collected on the 8th, 15th, and 22nd days for post-mating progesterone analysis, and pregnancy examinations were performed on the 35th day. The study showed a 90% total oestrus rate (54/60). However, there were no significant differences in conception, pregnancy, and kidding rates among the groups. Serum progesterone concentrations significantly increased on the 15th day in G2 and G4, where hCG was administered. In summary, hCG raised progesterone levels but did not significantly affect the reproductive performance of undernourished, lactating goats in a nonbreeding season, suggesting that environmental factors and animal nutrition play a crucial role in synchronization outcomes.Article Investigation of the Effect of Coenzyme-Q10 on Cyclophosphamide Induced Testicular Damage in Male Rats(Univ Zulia, Facultad Ciencias veterinarias, 2023) Kosal, Volkan; Rua, Ihsan; Yuksek, Veysel; Keles, Omer FarukCyclophosphamide (CP) is one of the frequently preferred chemotherapeutic agents Worldwide. CP has negative effects on the testes, spermatogenesis, and reproductive hormones. The aim of this study was to determine the protective effect of Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) on the damage caused by CP. CoQ10 is use in the treatment of infertility problems and is naturally found in the testes and seminal fluid. Thirty-six Albino Wistar male rats were divided into six groups ( Control, Sham, Cyclophosphamide (CP), Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), CP + CoQ10 I, CP + CoQ10 II), with six animals in each group. Semen analysis included investigations of sperm DNA damage, motility, abnormal sperm ratio, and density. Histopathological examination and assessment of oxidative stress parameters in the testes were conducted. Additionally, serum levels of FSH, LH, and Testosterone were measured. CoQ10 administration increased the motility rate, density, and Testosterone levels in testicular damage caused by CP (P<0.05). Furthermore, it was observed that the abnormal sperm ratio, sperm DNA damage, and oxidative stress were reduced (P<0.05). Based on the results of this study, the use of CoQ10 in conjunction with CP has the potential to alleviate male infertility problems that may arise from CP administration.Article Protective Effects of Chrysin in Rats With Ovarian Torsion(Kafkas Univ, veteriner Fakultesi dergisi, 2021) Dirik, Deniz; Komuroglu, Ahmet Ufuk; Kosal, Volkan; Basbugan, Yildiray; Ozdek, Ugur; Kolusari, Pinar; Keles, Omer FarukThe objective of this study is to assess the protective effect of chrysin (CH) against ovarian torsion-detorsion injury. Thirty-two female albino rats were divided into 4 groups as Control, Torsion/Detorsion (T/D), TD-CH, and CH. Ovarian torsion was done for 3 hours on TD and TD-CH groups and then detorsion was performed. 50 mg/kg of CH was administered to the TD-CH group via oral gavage half an hour before the detorsion. Subsequently, 50 mg/kg of CH was administered via oral gavage to TD-CH and CH groups for 14 days. At the end of the experiment, blood samples were collected and ovarian tissue were taken. SOD and GPx activities and GSH and 8-OHdG levels were studied in serum and ovarian tissue. Also, IL-18, KIM-1, NGAL, Cys-C levels were studied in serum samples. GSH levels and GPx, SOD activities in both serum and ovarian tissue were significantly lower in TD group compared to the control and TD-CH groups (P<0.05), whereas the 8-OHdG level was significantly higher (P<0.05). Treatment with CH resulted in a decrease in 8-OHdG level and an increase in GSH level, GPx and SOD activities in both serum and ovarian tissue in the TD-CH group compared to TD group (P<0.05). Chrysin could ameliorate ovarian injury. Essentially, this outcome is thanks to the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic effects of chrysin. Furthermore, it also has significant effects on DNA oxidative damage.Article A Retrospective Examination of Reproduction and Survival Rates of Van Cats(Agricultural Research Communication Centre, 2017) Cak, Bahattin; Uslu, Baris Atalay; Demirel, Ahmet Fatih; Gulyuz, Fetih; Yilmaz, Orhan; Kosal, VolkanVan cats are animals that often become the centre of attention due to their white hair, colourful eyes, and affectionate attitudes. However, it is nearly impossible to find research studies on the reproductive behaviours of Van cats. We conducted this study with the purpose of revealing the breeding efficiency properties and survival rates of Van cats. The study materials consisted of Van cats in the Van Cat Home of Yuzuncu Yil University's Van Cats Research Center. We determined the breeding efficiency properties using records obtained from 56 female cats over the course of four years. As a result of the study, we determined that the durations of oestrus, pregnancy, and lactation in Van cats were, respectively, 2.41 +/- 0.09, 63.75 +/- 0.27, and 98.45 +/- 1.18 days. We also determined the average number of kittens per delivery and the mating per pregnancy as, respectively, 3.30 +/- 0.19 and 13.71 +/- 0.74. In this study, we recorded the presence of 56 delivering cats, with a total of 185 kittens, 22 of which were dead (11.89%), and an 88.11% survival rate (%). The most common delivery type was twin deliveries (30%), and the highest rate of stillbirths was 4.86% in quadruplet deliveries.
