Article Effect of Urtica Dioica L. on Selected Trace Elements Levels and Serum Protein Patterns in the Rabbits Treated With 7,12-Dimethylbenz(a)anthracene(Asian Journal of Chemistry, 2008) Ekin, Suat; Oto, Gokhan; Berber, Ismet; Turel, Idris; Kusman, TubaIn the present study, the effect of Nettle (Urtica dioca L.) on trace elements and serum protein patterns in female rabbits administrated to 7,12-Dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) was investigated. Rabbits were divided into equal four groups. Group I was control group (n = 8), group 11 (n = 8), treated with DMBA (1 mg/kg.d), group III treated with DMBA (I mg/kg.d) and methanol extract of U. dioica 35 mg/kg/d and group IV (n = 8) treated with DMBA (1 mg/kg.d) and aqueous extract of U. dioica 35 mg/kg/d. The results show that on 60th day DMBA-treated group were compared with the control group levels, a significant decrease (p < 0.05) was observed in the Zn. DMBA and methanol extract of U. dioica treated group were compared with the control group levels, a significant increase (p < 0.05) was observed in the Cu. Serum Fe and Mn levels among groups were determined not to be statistically significant (p > 0.05). It was found that U. dioica not affected on trace elements level and serum protein patterns in rabbits subjected to DMBA.Article Protective Effect of Hypericum Perforatum L. on Serum and Hair Trace Elements in Rats 7,12-Dimethylbenz[a]anthracene Oxidative Stress(Elsevier, 2012) Ekin, Suat; Oto, Gokhan; Yardim, Yavuz; Ievent, Abdulkadir; Ozgokce, Fevzi; Kusman, TubaThe study was designed to assess the effect of Hypericum perforatum L. (HP) on serum and hair trace elements and mineral levels, oral administration of 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA) induced oxidative stress in Sprague-Dawley female rats. Analysis of the trace element has been carried out using atomic absorption spectrophotometer method at end of 60th day. It has been found out that the DMBA group contained statistically lower Zn and Cr compared to the control group (p<0.01) and (p<0.05), Cu, Mg and Na contained higher than control group (p<0.05), (p<0.05) and (p<0.05). In DMBA+H.P group, Zn higher and Na lower than DMBA group (p<0.05), (p<0.05), in hair samples Cd, K and Zn contained lower DMBA compared to the control group (p<0.05), (p<0.05) and (p<0.05). In group DMBA + H.P, Cd was higher than DMBA group and Cr lowered accordance with control group (p<0.05). The present study demonstrated significantly positive and beneficial effect of H.P on the concentration levels of Zn and Na in serum, also on Cd levels in hair between DMBA and DMBA+H.P groups.
