Article Academic and Non-Academic Staff's Psychological Contract in Turkey(Wiley, 2008) Aydin, Inayet; Yilmaz, Kursad; Memduhoglu, Hasan Basri; Oguz, Ebru; Gungor, SabriStudies of psychological contract as part of organisation-individual agreements have become important in recent years. This study determines views, about the psychological contract, of academic and non-academic staff and managers in faculties of education in Turkey. A total of 442 employees at 11 state universities in Turkey were included in the research. 'Psychological Contract Inventory' and 'Psychological Contract Measures', designed by Rousseau were utilised during the development process of the data-gathering tool. After the adaptation work, the scale consisted of 68 items under three sections and seven subscales. The results showed that academic staff and executives considered that their university carried out its obligations towards the staff at a 'moderate' level, whereas the non-academic staff considered it 'insufficient'. The academic and the non-academic staff considered that the employees carried out their tasks at a 'maximum' level, whereas the executives considered it 'moderate'.Article Değerler Eğitiminde Drama Yönteminin Uygulanmasına İlişkin Nitel Bir Çözümleme(2020) Memduhoglu, Hasan Basri; Yüce, TubaBu çalışmanın amacı, okul öncesi öğretmenlerinin değerlerin kazandırılmasında drama yönteminin önemine ilişkin görüşlerini belirlemek ve değerler eğitiminde drama yöntemini kullanma düzeylerini ortaya koymaktır. Nitel araştırma durum çalışması olarak desenlenen araştırma, Van’ın Erciş ilçesinde ilkokula bağlı anasınıfı ve bağımsız anaokullarında görev yapan 14 okul öncesi öğretmeni ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada nitel veri toplama yöntemlerinden görüşme tekniği kullanılmış ve veriler yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile toplanmıştır. Veriler içerik analizi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırma; okul öncesi öğretmenlerinin değerler eğitiminde drama yöntemine sıklıkla yer verdikleri, öğretmenlerin drama yöntemini okul öncesi dönem çocukları için faydalı buldukları ve bu nedenle değerler gibi soyut kavramların somutlaştırılmasında drama yöntemini kullandıkları sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.Article Developing the Organisational Justice Scale and Examining Teachers' and School Administrators' Views About Organisational Justice in Primary Schools(Model inst Education & Research, 2014) Memduhoglu, Hasan Basri; Yildiz, Ali IhsanThe purpose of this study is to develop a reliable and valid measurement tool to explore views about organisational justice in schools and to examine teachers' and school administrators' views about organisational justice in primary schools. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 455 participants, 176 school administrators and 279 teachers from the primary schools in the Centre of Van. The Organisational Justice Scale, developed by the authors, was employed as data gathering tool. Principal Component Factor Analysis was used to determine the content and construct validities of the scale and Confirmatory Factor Analysis was employed to evaluate the obtained results. As a result of the study, the developed Organisational Justice Scale (OJS) was found to be a valid and reliable measurement tool for school applications.Article The Effect of Focus Group Discussions on Pre-Service Teachers' Teaching Experiences and Practices: a Mixed Methods Study(Gate Assoc Teaching & Education-gate, Switzerland, 2017) Memduhoglu, Hasan Basri; Kotluk, Nihat; Yayla, AhmetThe aim of this study is to investigate the effect of providing feedback to pre-service teachers' (PSTs) through focus group discussion on PSTs' self-efficacy perception about teaching experiences and practices, to determine problems encountered during teaching practice by means of focus group discussion and to develop suggestions about solving these problems. This study was applied with 12 PSTs in two different schools during 12 weeks. Quantitative and qualitative data were gathered and analyzed. For quantitative data, non-parametric statistics and for qualitative data, descriptive analyses were used. As a result of the study, in experimental group, focus group discussion has significant and positive impact on PSTs' self-efficacy perception. A total of 393 primary school teachers and administrators employed in Bitlis city centrum and tatvan district participated in this survey model research. The research data were obtained from Primary School Administrators' Interpersonal Communication Skills Scale that was developed by Sahin (2007). In this research these main results were obtained: administrators have a moderate level of emphatic listening and effectiveness skills. Administrators give feedbacks at a moderate level in the process of communication. However, they give a high confidence in communication process. Perception of attendees does not vary according to their genders, branch and precedence while it varies significantly up to attendees' title.Article The Issue of Education Supervision in Turkey in the Views of Teachers, Administrators, Supervisors and Lecturers(Edam, 2012) Memduhoglu, Hasan BasriThe aim of this study is to determine the views of teachers, administrators, supervisors and lecturers that are experts in their fields as people having roles in education regarding the aim, structure, process, strong sides and main problems of the education supervision in Turkey. In this research, the scanning model research was employed through qualitative method. The study group of research was composed of 30 individuals in total who were eight teachers and administrators in the primary and secondary school in the cities of Van and Ankara, six lecturers at the universities of Van and Ankara with eight education supervisors in the mentioned cities. The data were obtained via interview technique by using semi-structured form. The research data were analyzed using content analysis. In the study "the aim, structure and process in the education supervision" with the strong sides of the education supervision and existing main problems" were dealt within two main categories. The reliability of the research was estimated %79 for the first category, %85 for the second category and in total as %82. The population of this study in which qualitative and quantitative research design are used together, includes education supervisors working all across Turkey. The sample of the present study is composed of 555 education supervisors selected in two provinces of each geographic region. Within the scope of the survey, a model has been developed for the education sub-system in Turkey and this model has been offered to the education supervisors' opinion. In the study, it is concluded that the education supervisors have completely adopted the offered model for the Turkish education system and considered it as applicable.Article Perceptions of Workforce Diversity in High Schools and Diversity Management: a Qualitative Analysis(Turkish Education Assoc, 2016) Memduhoglu, Hasan BasriThe purpose of the study was to explore perceptions about high school staff diversity, potential benefits and drawbacks of diversity and administrative applications and policies for diversity in the view of administrators and teachers. Survey method was employed in the research as well as the qualitative method. The research group consisted of total 24 administrators and teachers from state high schools in Kutahya, Kayseri and Van provinces. Eight individuals from each province (four randomly chosen administrators and four randomly chosen teachers) were interviewed. The semi-structured interview method was employed for data gathering. Descriptive content analyses were used for data analysis. The following results were reached: The administrators and teachers generally had positive views about high school staff diversity. As a result, it was seen that such diversity brought critical benefits for both employees and schools and at the same time, it caused certain problems. In addition, administrative applications and policies for diversity in high schools were generally positive, but sometimes negative.Article Respect in Principal-Teacher Relations at Primary Schools in Turkey(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2013) Gungor, Sabri; Aydin, Inayet; Memduhoglu, Hasan Basri; Oguz, EbruRespect means consideration of actions and requests of others and confirmation of values of others. School is a social institution where students are equipped with knowledge and skills, as well as fundamental character attributes. Respect among students, teachers, administrators, parents, and other staff at schools is of importance. In this study, the focus group method, including 12 principals and 10 teachers at state primary schools, was employed to explore respect in principal-teacher relations. According to the findings, the participants generally developed professional respect understanding. The teachers presented different definitions of respect associated with hierarchical relations. The participants' respect behaviors were commonly observed in positive communication and self-improvement. The principals displayed respect for teachers through some guarding behaviors, and the teachers displayed profession-related respect behaviors. The common respect expectations of the participants were as follows: self-improvement, establishment of positive social relations, and unbiased behavior. While the school principals expected obedience and complete fulfillment of assigned tasks from teachers, the teachers expected civility, justice, and guarding administration from principals. The participants regarded improper appearance, behaviors contradictory to rules of good manners and bad habits as disrespectfulness. The school principals regarded abuse of goodwill and false excuses by teachers as disrespectfulness; whereas the teachers regarded oral or behavioral insults by school principals and intervention in their private life as disrespectfulness.Article Üniversite Öğrencilerinin Kopya Çekmeye Yönelik Genel Eğilimlerinin Belirlenmesi(2021) Koc, Sevgi; Memduhoglu, Hasan BasriBu araştırmada, üniversite öğrencilerinin kopya çekmeye yönelik eğilimleri çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelenmiştir. Araştırma ilişkisel tarama modelindedir. Örneklem grubu tabakalı ve uygun örnekleme yöntemiyle belirlenmiştir. Örneklem grubu (n =) 1220 kişiden oluşmaktadır. Araştırma verileri Koç ve Memduhoğlu tarafından “kopya çekmeye yönelik eğilim ölçeği” geliştirilerek toplanmıştır. Veriler, açımlayıcı faktör analizi (AFA), betimsel istatistikler ve fark istatistikleri (ANOVA ve t testi) ile analiz edilmiştir. Üniversite öğrencilerinin kopya çekmeye yönelik eğilimlerinin orta düzeyde olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Öğrencilerin kopya çekmeye yönelik eğilim ölçeğinin toplamında, dışsal kaynaklı eğilim ve içsel kaynaklı eğilim boyutunda erkek öğrenciler kadın öğrencilerden daha fazla kopya çekmeye eğilim göstermişlerdir. Öğrencilerden sıklıkla devamsızlık yapanların nadiren devamsızlık yapanlara oranla kopya çekmeye yönelik eğilimlerinin daha yüksek olduğu sonucu elde edilmiştir. Diş hekimliği ile eğitim fakültesi öğrencilerinin kopya çekmeye yönelik eğilimlerinin yüksek düzeyde olduğu ve diğer fakültelerden farklılaştığı belirlenmiştir. İlahiyat ve tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinin kopya çekme eğilimlerinin ise düşük düzeyde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Baba eğitim durumunun öğrencilerin kopya çekmeye yönelik eğilimleri üzerinde önemli bir etkisinin olmadığı anlaşılmıştır. Mezuniyet sonrası mesleki ideali akademisyenlik olan öğrencilerin diğer öğrencilere göre kopya çekmeye yönelik eğilimlerinin daha düşük düzeyde olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.Article Views of Teachers and Academicians About Alternative Education Applications in Turkey(Turkish Education Assoc, 2015) Memduhoglu, Hasan Basri; Mazlum, Muhammed Mehmet; Alav, OzlemThe purpose of the present study is to explore the views of teachers, academicians and graduate students about alternative education/school applications and applicability of these applications in Turkey. The current study is a qualitative study. The data were collected through focused group discussion and interviews and semi-structured interview form was used. The sample of the study consisted of 25 individuals including 13 academicians at Yuzuncu Yil University and 2 graduate students in Education Sciences, and 10 teachers working in Van province. The data were analyzed by descriptive analysis technique. With respect to the findings, alternative education is a new concept for the participants and they have complication for this concept. Also, the participants have different views about the applicability of alternative education in Turkey. In this respect, alternative education applications have the potential to cause great discussions.
