Conference Object Assessment of the Immunocontraceptive Effect of a Long-Acting Single-Dose Gnrh Vaccine (repro-Bloc™) in Female Rats(Wiley-blackwell, 2015) Eski, F.; Sendag, S.; Alan, M.; Tasal, I.; Mis, L.; Yildirim, S.; Wehrend, A.Article Effect of Royal Jelly on Experimental Colitis Induced by Acetic Acid and Alteration of Mast Cell Distribution in the Colon of Rats(Pagepress Publ, 2010) Karaca, T.; Bayiroglu, F.; Yoruk, M.; Kaya, M. S.; Uslu, S.; Comba, B.; Mis, L.This study investigated the effects of royal jelly (RI) on acetic acid-induced colitis in rats. Twenty adult female Wistar albino rats were divided into four treatment groups of 5 animals each, including a control group (Group I); Group II was treated orally with RJ (150 mg kg(-1) body weight); Group III had acetic acid-induced colitis; and Group IV had acetic acid-induced colitis treated orally with RJ (150 mg kg(-1) body weight) for 4 weeks. Colitis was induced by intracolonic instillation of 4% acetic acid; the control group received physiological saline (10 mL kg(-1)). Colon samples were obtained under deep anaesthesia from animals in all groups. Tissues were fixed in 10% formalin neutral buffer solution for 24 h and embedded in paraffin. Six-micrometre-thick sections were stained with Mallory's triple stain and toluidine blue in 1% aqueous solution at pH 1.0 for 5 min (for Mast Cells). RI was shown to protect the colonic mucosa against the injurious effect of acetic acid. Colitis (colonic damage) was confirmed histomorphometrically as significant increases in the number of mast cells (MC) and colonic erosions in rats with acetic acid-induced colitis. The RI treatment significantly decreased the number of MC and reduced the area of colonic erosion in the colon of RJ-treated rats compared with rats with untreated colitis. The results suggest that oral treatment with RI could be used to treat colitis.Article The Impact of Chitosan on Oxidative Stress in Liver of Rats Loaded With Lead Acetate(Hellenic veterinary Medical Soc, 2022) Ozdek, U.; Toz, H.; Komuroglu, A. U.; Mis, L.; Deger, Y.This study was conducted to determine the impact of chitosan on lead (Pb)-induced hepatotoxicity. Thus, lead acetate was administered intraperitoneally (50 mg/kg for 5 days) and chitosan was given as 200 mg/kg via oral gavage for 28 days. When the trial was terminated, it was determined that aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities in serum as well as Pb, 8-hydroxy-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and catalase (CAT) activity in liver tissue significantly increased, however reduced glutathione (GSH) and ceruloplasmin (Cp) levels in liver and high density lipoproteins (HDL) in serum had a significant decrease in the Pb group when compared to the control group. The administration of chitosan significantly prevented Pb-induced changes in serum liver enzyme activities, 8-OHdG and MDA levels. In addition, chitosan showed a statistically insignificant effect on reduced GSH, Cp, HDL levels and CAT activity. Accordingly, administration of chitosan can strengthen the antioxidant defence system of liver tissue and may decrease oxidative stress.Article Investigation of Some Markers of Inflammation in Sheep With Anaplasmosis(Ataturk Universitesi, 2020) Bayram, G.; Mis, L.; Cinar, D.A.; Oguz, B.Anaplasmosis is an arthropod-borne parasitic disease that infects blood cells and frequently seen in sheep. This study was planned to evaluate inflammation marker levels in sheep infected with anaplasmosis. In this research, the blood samples used were obtained from 20 healthy and 20 Anaplasmosis sheep brought to Van Metropolitan Municipality Slaughterhouse. Determination of control and patient groups, clinical symptoms of the disease, Giemsa stained blood smears and serological method (cELISA) were used. Serum samples of 91 sheep collected from Anaplasma spp. When examined serologically for the presence of antibodies of the species, 73.6% (67/91) were found to be seropositive in terms of Anaplasmosis. The blood of the sheep with high ELISA inhibition values and showing Anaplasma morulae form in the peripheral blood smears, were used for analysis. Granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) levels in 20 sheep whose positivity was detected were identified with the Elisa kit. IL-1β (ng/L), TNF-α (ng/L), GM-CSF (ng/L) levels from among the pro-inflammation parameters were found to increase. It is thought that researching the mechanisms related to inflammation developing against Anaplasma will contribute to studies for diagnosis and prevention of Anaplasma infections for future immunotherapy research. © 2020 Ataturk Universitesi.
