Article Assessment of the Turkish Agriculture Sector in Terms of Self- Efficiency and Food Security: Integrated Dea/Ahp Analysis(Mehmet Akif Ersoy Univ, 2022) Soyhan, Sinem; Mollavelioglu, M. SukruThe main purpose of this study is to evaluate the self-sufficiency of the Turkish agricultural sector in terms of food security, based on the debates that the Turkish agricultural sector has lost its self-sufficiency feature. In this context, this study aims to answer the question of " Is the Turkish agricultural sector able to ensure self-sufficiency and food security? For this purpose, self-sufficiency is first examined on the basis of the adequacy of the product classes, then on the basis of the ratio of meeting calorie needs. Finally, based on the 2019 data of the Global Food Security Index (GFSI) study, using the integrated DEA / AHP approach, Turkish agriculture is analyzed in terms of food security from a sample of 30 OECD countries. When the findings are examined, it is deemed necessary for self-sufficiency to increase production in terms of dry legumes, grain total and other grains total. Similarly, it is necessary to ensure the continuity of the increase in production observed in recent years in products such as beef, sunflower and rice. In terms of food security, it is important to adopt remedial policies, especially in terms of affordability and natural resources and durability.Article The Convergence Analysis of Co2 Emissions Intensity Performance of The Countries According To the Climate Change Performance Index(Eskisehir Osmangazi Univ, Fac Education, 2016) Yazgan, Sekip; Mollavelioglu, M. Sukru; Ceylan, ResatIn this study, it is analysed whether the countries with good, moderate, poor and very poor performance according to the Climate Change Performance Index (Bruck, Marten and Bals, 2013) converge towards the average group in terms of emission intensity performance. The aim of the study is to examine whether the countries with same performances in climate change also display similar attitudes in terms of emission intensity performance. As the emission intensity performance index, ratio of the country's share in global emissions release to the share of the country's GDP in global GDP has been used. In the analysis, KSS and AESTAR units root tests based on nonlinear time series analysis techniques have been applied. According to the findings; there is convergence behaviour towards the average in terms of emissions intensity performance for each country group. However, it is noteworthy that, this convergence behaviour is more intense in group of countries with good performance and poor performance. Regarding the convergence behaviour between the groups, only the group average of the countries with moderate performance converges towards the group average of the countries with good performance according to the AESTAR test. However, convergence behaviour does not exist between the group averages according to the ADF and KSS tests. For this reason, in the convergence analysis of the emissions intensity performance, unit root tests based on nonlinear time series technique is more useful than the traditional ADF unit root test.Article Convergence Analysis of Foreign Direct Investment Performances of Countries in Terms of Development Stages(Bilgesel Yayincilik San & Tic Ltd, 2014) Ceylan, Resat; Mollavelioglu, M. Sukru; Kanberoglu, ZaferIn this study, the countries / economies, according to the classification in terms of stages of development, the convergence behavior of foreign direct investment performance is analyzed. This study grounds on the Global Competitiveness Report 2012-2013 for classifying the development stages of countries/economies. In the aforementioned report, countries/economies are divided into three main groups according to their development stages. These groups are "factor-driven economies", "efficiency-driven economies" and "innovation-driven economies". Moreover, this number has climbed to five after adding two more groups including the economies between the first stage and the second stage and the economies between the second stage and the third stage. This analysis estimates the foreign direct investment performances of the countries in this classification and examines intra-group and inter-group convergence relations for the period of 1970-2012 by means of Asymmetric Exponential Smooth Transition Auto-Regressive (AESTAR) unit root test. The findings demonstrate that most countries display a significant convergence behavior towards the ensemble average and the ensemble averages converge towards each other.Article Do Natural Resources Lead To a Curse or Blessing in Terms of Income Inequality(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2024) Gemicioglu, Selcuk; Soyhan, Sinem; Mollavelioglu, M. SukruThis study examines the effects of the revenues generated by the extraction of natural resource reserves on income distribution in countries with natural resource reserves. The theoretical underpinning is based on the view that natural resources, which are defined in the literature as the natural resources curse, cause many adverse macroeconomic and political effects on countries' natural resource discoveries and revenues from extracted natural resources. The study aims to investigate whether natural resources have adverse effects on income inequality for countries with higher revenues of natural resources and abundant natural resources. For this purpose, we perform estimations using the system GMM estimator for low-income, lower-middle-income and natural resources-rich countries in the period 2009-2019. We find an inverted U-shaped relationship between natural resource rent and income inequality. In other words, natural resource rent has a cursing effect up to a threshold, then it has a blessing effect on income inequality. We also find an inverted U-shaped relationship between economic growth and income inequality. Additionally, the rule of law has a negative effect on income inequality.
