Conference Object Chronic Immobilization Stress in Rats: Fluoxetine and Amisulpride Protects Against Chronic Immobilization Stress-Induced Biochemical Alterations(Wiley-blackwell, 2016) Oto, G.; Ekin, S.; Karakus, Y.; Oksuz, E.; Ustun, R.; Ozdemir, H.Article The Effect of Resveratrol Therapy on The Vascular Responses Caused by Chronic Fluorosis(int Soc Fluoride Research, 2020) Bulduk, M.; Oto, G.; Ozdemir, H.; Demirel-Yilmaz, E.The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of resveratrol therapy on the contraction-relaxation responses of the thoracic aorta rings and on the blood pressure of rats exposed to chronic fluorosis. The study was conducted using 80 male and female Sprague Dawley rats weighing 200-250 g. The rats were randomly divided into 8 same gender groups of 10 (4 groups of male rats and 4 of female rats) and administered, for each gender via the drinking water, (i) 0 mg/L of sodium fluoride (NaF) and 0 mg/L of resveratrol (control groups); (ii) 10 mg/L of NaF; (iii) 50 mg/L of resveratrol; and (iv) 10 mg/L of NaF and 50 mg/L of resveratrol. Blood pressures were measured on days 30, 60, and 90 in each group. At the end of day 90, the contraction-relaxation responses of the thoracic aorta rings were examined in an isolated organ bath. The analysis on the serum fluorine level revealed that the serum fluorine level was elevated in all the rats administered NaF. For each gender, the most marked elevations in the blood pressures were seen, on all three days, in the NaF groups. In both the male and female groups, the chronic administration of resveratrol with NaF led to decreased blood pressures. The contraction response resulting from phenylephrine administration was increased in the groups administered NaF, whereas it was decreased in the groups administered NaF+resveratrol. In the groups administered resveratrol, the maximal relaxing effect was achieved by acetylcholine. In the groups administered NaF, the relaxation responses caused by SNP (sodium nitroprusside) were similar to those in the other study groups. The results of this study indicate that resveratrol provides a protective effect against the increased blood pressure caused by NaF and the potential endothelial damage. The protective effect of resveratrol results from its capability to reduce fluorine-induced oxidative stress and endothelial tissue damage. Further studies are warranted to investigate the adverse effects in the veins exposed to chronic fluorosis and the molecular mechanisms of the potential protective effects of resveratrol against these adverse effects.Article Effect on Biochemical Parameters in Naturally Infected Calves With Giardiasis After Treatment With Albendazole in Van Province, Turkey(2014) Ragbetli, C.; Tanritanir, P.; Yilmaz, H.; Yoruk, I.; Ozdemir, H.The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in the blood serum levels of some biochemical parameters, lipid-soluble vitamins and trace elements in the calves naturally infected with Giardia spp. in Van region, before and after treatment with orally 20 mg/kg-1 albendazole three successive days. Serum samples were analyzed for biochemical parameters and some vitamins. In the infected animals, concentrations of creatinine, amylase levels were lower (p< 0.05). Glucose, urea, total protein, AST, ALT, sodium, potassium, retinol and α-tocopherol levels were seen significantly higher in the after treatment group (p< 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the concentration of total bilirubin, chloride and vitamin D3 between groups. All the animals were not encountered cysts or trophozoites of Giardia at the end of the treatment. The results of this study would suggest albendazole to be 100% effective against giardiasis in all of the calves in Van region.Article Investigation of Rotenone Effects on Ovarian Tissue Using Stereological Methods(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2024) Colcimen, N.; Ozdemir, H.This study aims to stereologically investigate the effects of rotenone on rat ovarian tissue. Within the scope of the study, eighteen female rats were taken and divided into 3 groups as control group, to which physiological saline was administered, vehicle group to which sunflower oil was administered, and rotenone group to which rotenone dissolved in sunflower oil was administered at a dose of 2 mg/kg subcutaneously (s.c.). At the end of the experiment the right ovarian tissue was excised and removed, and kept in 10% formaldehyde for 72 hours. Then routine histological follow-up process were applied, and the tissues were embedded in paraffin. The sections of 5µm thickness were taken and stained with Haematoxylin-Eosin (H&E) and Masson's trichrome viewed under a light microscope and photographed. When the histological structure of the ovarian tissue in the rotenone group was examined, it was observed that there was a remarkably decrease in the number of follicles. When the total ovarian tissue volumes of the groups were compared stereologically, it was determined that the total ovarian tissue volume decreased in the rotenone group and this decrease was statistically significant (p<0.05). As a result, it was determined in our study that rotenone has harmful effects on the ovary, which is a part of the female reproductive system. © 2024, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. Single-stage revision knee arthroplasty was performed for 25 knees for aseptic reasons, and two-stage revision knee arthroplasty was performed for 9 knees for septic reasons. For all patients, alpha, beta, gamma, sigma and total valgus angles were measured in pre-and post-operative anteroposterior (AP) X-rays and lateral X-rays based on American Knee Society radiological assessment form. For all patients, pre-and post-operative American Knee Society knee score and functional score was assessed. As laboratory work-up, all patients’ pre-and post-operative erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein, white blood cells values were compared. The patients’ mean knee score and functional score was detected to be 34.7 (4-57) and 33.5 (5-55), respectively, and to be 78.2 (62-90) and 73.8 (50-90) after revision. In pre-operative assessments performed based on Knee Society radiographic assessment form, mean alpha angle was found to be 95.3 (77-103), mean beta angle to be 84.8 (71-100), mean gamma angle to be 5.8 (0-30), mean sigma angle to be 83.3 (49-97), and mean total valgus angle to be 0.1 (-13-12). In post-operative assessments, mean alpha angle was found to be 94.7 (90-99), mean beta angle to be 88.4 (84-92), mean gamma angle to be 3.7 (0-10), mean sigma angle to be 88.1 (85-92), and mean total valgus angle to be 3.1 (-1-8). We think that when revision knee arthroplasty operation is performed for proper indication and according to the surgical technique, it is a highly effective and preferable method in decreasing the pain severity and improving the life quality of the patients. © 2018, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi.
