Investigation of Opinions of Seventh Grade Students About Socio-Scientific Issues by Means of Science Teaching Based on Common Knowledge Construction Model

The aim of this study is to investigate the opinions of seventh-grade students on socio- scientific issues through science teaching based on a common knowledge construction model. The study was carried out with 25 grade seven students attending a secondary school in the spring term of the 2016-2017 academic year. Within case study research methodology, one of qualitative research methods, was applied. In the study, the Socio-Scientific Issues Evaluation Form and semi-structured interview questions were used for data collection. In analyzing the data content analysis were used. The findings indicated that the students found socio-scientific issues were complex, open-ended and mostly debatable issues which did not any have clear-cut answer. The CKCM lessons sequence was found to be influential on the development of the 7th grade students' decision-making skills regarding socio-scientific issues, problem-solving skills in daily lives and the development of science literacy. To clarify the effect of the CKCM on socio-scientific issues, future studies should be conducted with a larger sample from different grades.
Late Acheulean Lithic Assemblages From Locality 010 at Gurgurbaba Hill (Eastern Anatolia)

The province of Van in north-eastern Turkey served as a land bridge between Africa and Eurasia during the Palaeolithic. The region is of particular relevance for understanding the movement of hominins between these continents. This study concerns the lithic remains from a locality at Gurgurbaba Hill, named Locality 010, north of the village of Ulupamir (Ercis district). Locality 010 was dated to 311 +/- 32 kya by terrestrial cosmogenic nuclides method, which coincides with Marine Isotope Stage 9 (MIS 9), a Middle Pleistocene interglacial period. The assemblage from this site is attributed to the Late Acheulean and resembles that of the southern Caucasus. This similarity indicates that the artefacts from Locality 010 were probably produced by late Lower Palaeolithic technology in a broad sense. These findings suggest local adaptations of late Middle Pleistocene hominins to high plateau environments.
Ortak Bilgi Yapılandırma Modeline Dayalı Fen Öğretimi Aracılığıyla Yedinci Sınıf Öğrencilerinin Sosyobilimsel Konular Hakkındaki Görüşlerinin İncelenmesi

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Ortak Bilgi Yapılandırma Modeli’ne (OBYM) dayalı fen öğretimiaracılığıyla yedinci sınıf öğrencilerinin sosyobilimsel konular hakkındaki görüşlerinin incelenmesidir.Çalışma, 2016-2017 eğitim-öğretim bahar yarı yılında ortaokul yedinci sınıfta öğrenim gören 25öğrenci ile yürütülmüştür. Bu çalışmanın deseni ise nitel araştırma yaklaşımlarından durum çalışmasıolarak belirlenmiştir. Çalışmada veri toplama aracı olarak Sosyobilimsel Konuları DeğerlendirmeFormu ve yarı-yapılandırılmış görüşme kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin çözümlenmesinde içerikanalizden faydalanılmıştır. Bu çalışmada öğrenciler, sosyobilimsel konuların karmaşık, açık uçluçoğunlukla tartışmalı ve kesin cevabı olmayan konular olduğunu farkına varmışlardır. OBYM temelliuygulamalarının yedinci sınıf öğrencilerinin sosyobilimsel konularda karar verme yetenekleriningelişmesinde, günlük hayatta karşılaşacakları sorunları çözme becerilerinde ve bireylerin fenokuryazarlıklarının gelişmesinde etkili olduğu tespit edilmiştir. OBYM’nin, sosyobilimsel konularınöğretimi üzerinde etkisinin daha net olarak görülebilmesi için geniş katılımlı farklı seviyede öğrenimgören öğrenciler ile çalışmaların yapılması önerilmektedir.
