Article Amlodipine-Induced Gingival Hyperplasia in Chronic Renal Failure: a Case Report(Makerere Univ, Fac Med, 2012) Aldemir, N. M.; Begenik, H.; Emre, H.; Erdur, F. M.; Soyoral, Y.Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that is used in the management of both hypertension and angina. Amlodipine induced side effects are headache, dizziness, edema, flushing, palpitations, and rarely gingival hyperplasia. The exact reason of amlodipine-induced gingival hyperplasia is not known. We presented a case with chronic renal failure (CRF) that developed gingival hyperplasia due to amlodipine use, which improved after ceasing the drug.Article The Evaluation of Dream Anxiety and Sleep Quality in Hemodialysis Patients(Kure Iletisim Grubu A.S., 2017) Selvi, Y.; Ozdemir, P.G.; Soyoral, Y.; Tasdemir, M.; Aslan, M.Sleep problems are prevalent in hemodialysis patients. Although several studies have investigated the sleep quality and its causes in hemodialysis patients, there is no report available on dream anxiety in hemodialysis patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sleep quality and dream anxiety in hemodialysis patients. We also investigated related factors which influence sleep quality and dream anxiety. Fifty-Two hemodialysis patients and 38 healthy individuals were included in the present study. The sleep quality and dream anxiety were assessed with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Van Dream Anxiety Scale (VDAS); respectively. The majority of hemodialysis patients had poor sleep quality (%92.3) in our study. Hemodialysis patients had significantly longer sleep latency, higher sleep disturbances and daytime dysfunction than healthy individuals. Hemodialysis patients had higher global dream anxiety scores than healthy individuals. There was a negative relationship between hemoglobin levels and Global VDAS score. Global PSQI score was negative correlated with serum creatinine and phosphorus levels, while positive correlated with C-reactive protein levels. Our results suggest that hemodialysis patients had poor sleep quality, higher sleep disturbances and daytime dysfunction compared with healthy subjects. Moreover, we demonstrated that dream anxiety was significantly higher in hemodialysis patients.Article Presented With Central Nervous System Involvement, Extra- Pulmonary and Intra-Pulmonary Tuberculosis Combined Infection in a Dialysis Patient(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2015) Gunbatar, H.; Bulut, G.; Soyoral, Y.; Sertogullarindan, B.; Ebinc, S.The clinical appearance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) in patients on dialysis are substantially non-specific that makes diagnosis difficult. We report a case of extrapulmonary and intrapulmonary TB in end stage renal disease (ESRD). A 58- year-old female with ESRD was admitted to emergency with the complaints of intermittent fever, weakness, impairment of consciousness for last three days. Because of mental confusion she was entubated, transferred to the intensive care unit. Thorax CT showed widespreadcentryasinarnodules in both lungs. The empirically anti-TB therapy was initiated. There was in size of 4x5 cm palpable lymphadenopaty on left supraclavicular region, excisional biopsy revealed caseating granulomatous lymphadenitis. Lumbar puncture was performed and analysis was consistent with TB meningitis. The patient was diagnosed as miliary TB, TB meningitis and TB lymphadenitis and died on the tenth day on admission. Increased awareness of TB in the ESRD population, early diagnosis and treatment are very important. © 2015, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, Universitas Indonesia. Thrombocytopenia may also occur after high-dose use of rifampicin which is an antibiotic. Here, we report five cases of thrombocytopenia developing after the use of rifampicin for the treatment of brucellosis. Four cases had experienced diffuse petechiae and ecchymosis with severe thrombocytopenia. The other patient had a complicated thrombocytopenia with intracerebral hemorrhage. As a result, the usage of rifampicin in the treatment of brucellosis could lead to systemic or central complications.
