Article Analysis of Random Intercept and Slope Model (Rism) for Data of Repeated Measures From Hy-Line White Laying Hens(Zoological Soc Pakistan, 2016) Eyduran, Ecevit; Ser, Gazel; Cinli, Harun; Tirink, Cem; Yakar, Yasin; Duru, Metin; Tariq, Mohammad MasoodIn animal science, sequential variation on quantitative traits during a certain time period should be precisely identified for regulating managerial conditions in animal experimental data. This study was conducted in order to investigate the effect of including some covariates on performance of covariance structures, fixed and random effects on the scope of random intercept and slope model (RISM) in order to improve model quality criteria. In repeated measurement data of laying hens, cumulative egg weight (CEW) per hen as a dependent variable was recorded per week, and treatment, time and treatment x time interaction effects were added as independent variables. Time effect was considered as a continuous variable in RISM. For better improving quality of RISM, feed intake (FT), feed conversation ratio (FCR), and egg mass (EGGM) per week were also included as covariates. Model quality criteria like-2 Res Log Likelihood, Akaike's Information Criterion (AIC), Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC), and Corrected Akaike's Information Criterion (AICC) criterion were used to identify best covariance structure among Compound Symmetry (CS), Heterogeneous Compound Symmetry (CSH), Unstructured (UN), First-Order Autoregressive (AR(1)), Unstructured correlation (UNR), Heterogeneous First-Order Autoregressive (ARH(1)), Toeplitz (TOEP) and Heterogeneous Toeplitz (TOEPH) with/without adding covariates. The explanation proportion of 90% in the dependent variable (CEW) was estimated for CSH, UNR, ARH(1), TOEPH, and UN as an outcome of adding covariates, which was prominently higher than the RISM without adding covariates. The significant differences in parameter estimates of fixed and random effects were recorded between the RISM with and without covariates. In repeated measures design, adding covariates in improving quality criteria of RISM could be recommended for data of laying hensArticle Comparison of Models for Some Testicular Characteristics in Karakal Male Lambs(Zoological Soc Pakistan, 2020) Karakul, Kadir; Ayguen, Turgut; Celik, Senol; Tariq, Mohammad Masood; Ali, Muhammad; Rafeeq, Majed; Bukhari, Farhat AbbasThis study was aimed to search testis growth of Karakal male lambs raised in intensive conditions and to build the forecasting model of live weight in lambs using 4 data mining CHAID, Exhaustive CHAID, CART, and multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS). Effects of genotype and some environment factors such as birth type, dam age, lamb' age in control and live weight on testis characteristics were also researched. The furthest importance sequence was obtained for testis length (TESLENG) (100%), followed by age, testis diameter (TDIA), age in control (DAGE), birth weight (BW), around scrotum (SCC), scrotum length (SCL) and birth type (BT). TDIA 4.5 and TESLENG 9 will provide 4.095 to LW. Analytic results shown that MARS outperformed CHAID, Exhaustive CHAID, and CART approaches in terms of R-2, Adj. R-2, RMSE, SD ratio, MAPE and AIC provided effective alternatives for forecasting live weight of lambs. Purpose of MARS algorithm having very high predictive precision in the prediction of LW from body features may onward a new view for 39 lambs breeders.Article Determination of Appropriate Growth Models for Early Selection Possibilities in Goats(Zoological Soc Pakistan, 2017) Cak, Bahattin; Yilmaz, Orhan; Keskin, Siddik; Bayril, Tahir; Tariq, Mohammad MasoodGrowth models present a visual assessment of growth as a function of time and predict body weight at a specific age. We investigated the growth characteristics of Colored Mohair goat using four nonlinear growth models. Thirty (n=22 males and n=8 females) Colored Mohair kids were used. The kids were weighed at 2-week intervals from birth to 150 days. The Monomolecular, Gompertz, Richards and Three Parameter Logistic models were used. The best model was determined by considering the root mean square error, R-2% and asymptotic correlation coefficient criteria. We concluded that the Gompertz and Richards models were favourable for singletons and that the Richards model was favorable for determining twin Colored Mohair goat growth characteristics. Birth type should be considered in subsequent genetic evaluations. Furthermore, producing heavier carcasses (13-17 kg) in < 150 days may increase productivity and efficiency of the goat farming system.Article The Effect of Chemical and Surgical Castration on the Live Weight Gain and Some Hormones of Male Norduz Sheep(Zoological Soc Pakistan, 2017) Karakus, Kadir; Comba, Bahat; Tas, Abuzer; Sancak, Tunahan; Comba, Arzu; Aksu, Devrim Saripinar; Tariq, Mohammad MasoodThe aim of this study was to investigate the effects of surgical and chemical castration on body weight and some hormones. In the present study, 2.5-3-month-old weaned male Norduz sheep were used. The sheep were obtained in the year 2015 from Livestock Application and Research Directorate of Yuzuncu Yil University. The sheep were randomly allocated into three groups each of which contained 10 sheep. The groups were formed as; Group 1 The Control Group (No castration), Group 2 (Surgical castration group) and Group 3 (Chemical castration group), respectively. Blood sample was taken from vena jugularis of the animals before the application and every two months for a total of 4 times for 6 months and hormone analyses were performed. The order of statistical significance for TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) were found as Surgical > Control > Formol (P<0.05). The order of statistical significance for growth hormone was Formol = Surgery > Control (P<0.05). In August month, the application factor was found to be significant only in testosterone (P<0.05). No significant difference between the control and surgical groups in testosterone was noted. In this study, although the application of different castration methods in 4-month-old male Norduz sheep resulted in changes in the blood hormone levels, it was determined that these changes did not affect body weight. In conclusion, the evaluation of the process in castrated six-month-old sheep revealed an increase in the body weight which was similar to that in the control group.Article Relationship Between Vitamin Composition and Spermatological Characteristics in Semen of Different Ram Breeds of Turkey(Zoological Soc Pakistan, 2016) Karakus, Kadir; Mert, Nihat; Mert, Handan; Yoruk, Ibrahim; Aygun, Turgut; Tariq, Mohammad MasoodThe aim of this study was to evaluate the vitamin levels of ram seminal plasma and the relationship between vitamins and spermatological characteristics. For this aim, nine 3-5 year old rams of Norduz, Karakas and Ile-de-France x Akkaraman (G1) genotypes were provided. Sperm of each ram was collected once per month from June to October of the year 2007 by artificial vagina. In each month, the concentrations of retinol acetate, alpha tocopherol, delta tocopherol, alpha tocopherol acetate and vitamin D-3 in seminal plasma were analyzed by using HPLC. Spermatological characteristics viz. sperm volume, pH, mass activity, sperm motility, abnormal spermatozoid, death/alive ratio and sperm concentration were evaluated. As testicular characteristics, scrotal circumference and testicular diameter were measured. Monthly changes and breed differences on the vitamin levels were statistically insignificant, whereas there was a positive correlation was obtained between testis diameter and retinol acetate levels (p<0.05) and a positive correlation was also estimated between analyzed vitamins. As a result, the relationships between the testicular, spermatological characteristics, and vitamin compositions should be taken into account in the breeding targets.
