Article The Assessment of Effects of Atracurium and Mivacurium Using Tof Guard Device in Dogs(indian veterinary Journal, 2003) Tas, A; Aslan, L; Atasoy, N; Ceylan, E; Altug, ME; Ozbek, HArticle Changes in Certain Biochemical Parameters of Arterial Blood and Cerebrospinal Liquor of Sheep Anaesthetised by Isoflurane and Halothane(Mezogazda Kiado Kft, 2004) Mercan, N; Atasoy, N; Gençcelep, M; Tas, AThe authors performed biochemical examinations of twenty sheep's arterial blood and cerebrospinal liquor (CSL) to establish the changes caused by inhalation anaesthetics (halothane and isoflurane). Ten animals were anaesthetised by isoflurane (1.5 v/v%) and ten of them by halothane (1 v/v%). Blood samples were taken from a. femoralis and the CSL samples by lumbosacral punction before the anaesthesia (BA), during anaesthesia (DA) and after anaesthesia (AA). From the blood samples pH, pCO(2), pO(2) SAT and HCO3 ion and from the CSL glucose, Na, K and Cl ion-concentration were measured. There were no significant changes (p>0.05) during isoflurane narcosis except CSL glucose content, which was significant (p<0.05). During halothane narcosis pCO(2) and pO(2) DA (p<0.01), HCO3 ion DA (p<0.001), and AA (p<0.05) changed significantly. The results show that sheep tolerate isoflurane better than halothane, because isoflurane did not have unfavourable effects on blood and CSL parameters.Article Considerations for Gastrointestinal Cannulation (Rumen, Duodenum and Ileum) in Sheep With a Ruminal, a Simple T-Type and a Modified T-Type Cannula(M H Schaper Gmbh Co Kg, 2003) Atasoy, N; Tas, AThe aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of simultaneous application of three cannulations and to test the effectivness of a modified T-type cannula compared to simple T-type cannula. A ruminal, a simple T-type and a modified T-type duodenal and an ilial cannula were used in sheep. No complication was encountered in ruminal cannulation. Although no grafts were used, leakage of digesta was not seen for at least five months in T-type cannula and seven months in modified T-type cannula after surgery. Fibrous tissue grew between the serosa of the intestine and the peritoneum. No erosion of the tissue between intestine and body wall was observed after slaughter. Especially ilial digesta was easily obtained from modified T-type cannula.Article The Effects of Inhalation Anaesthetics (Halothane and Isoflurane) on Certain Clinical and Haematological Parameters of Sheep(Elsevier Science Bv, 2004) Gençcelep, M; Atasoy, N; Tas, AIn the study, 16 Morkaraman ewes were anaesthetised with 1% halothane (n = 8) and with 1.5% isoflurane (n = 8). Significant differences in respiration rate (P < 0.05) and rectal temperature (P < 0.01) during anaesthesia and total number of WBC (P < 0.05) after anaesthesia for the two treatment groups were recorded. Haematological parameters decreased compared to the values recorded before anaesthesia in both groups. However, the values (WBC, RBC, platelet counts, haemoglobin counts, PCV) were within the physiological limits. All values obtained 24 h following anaesthesia were similar to the values obtained before anaesthesia. Although the chirurgical anaesthesia was conducted with low levels of halothane, the animals recovered earlier from isoflurane than halothane anaesthesia. Isoflurane can be recommended in ewes as it caused a small alteration in the haemotological parameters during anaesthesia and recorded a shorter recovery time. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. Reproductively healthy female nulliparous Wistar Albino rats (n = 30), aged 6 months, mass 165-195 g, were assigned randomly to three groups. Rats received a 1 mi i.p. injection of 5% (w/v) methylene blue solution (methylene blue group: n = 10), 5% (w/v) indigo carmine solution (indigo carmine group: n = 10) or 5% (v/v) fresh autologous erythrocyte suspension (autologous erythrocyte group: n=10). At 4 weeks after injection, a small sterile opening was made in the peritoneal cavity of each rat. The cavity was rinsed once with TCM-199 to collect macrophages. The rinsed peritoneal contents were cultured overnight to evaluate macrophage activation. The peritoneal opening was expanded for evaluation of adhesion formation. Only one rat from the autologous erythrocyte group had intra-peritoneal adhesions (score 2), whereas all rats in the methylene blue group (score 1: n = 1; score 2: n = 4; score 3: n = 4; and score 4: n = 1) and seven rats in the indigo carmine group (score 1: it = 1; score 2: n = 2; score 3: n = 3; and score 4: n = 1) had intra-abdominal adhesions. Macrophage activity was observed in the cultured peritoneal contents collected from the methylene blue and indigo carmine groups but not from the autologous erythrocyte group. Adhesion formation could be due to macrophage activation caused by methylene blue and indigo carmine solutions. These results indicate that tubal patency can be observed by laparoscopy using autologous erythrocyte suspension The results of this study are believed to be the first to indicate that a patient's own erythrocyte suspension could be used during observation of tubal patency by laparoscopy. However, further studies are required.Article The Effects of Prednisolone and Serum Malondialdehyde Levels in Puppies With Experimentally Induced Meconium Aspiration Syndrome(Sage Publications Ltd, 2003) Kirimi, E; Tuncer, O; Kösem, M; Ceylan, E; Tas, A; Tasal, I; Caksen, HThe aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different doses of prednisolone in puppies experimentally induced with meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS). Meconium was collected from human babies in the first day of life and was released into the trachea of 11 newborn puppies to induce MAS. Puppies were treated with 2 mg/kg prednisolone (standard dose), 30 mg/kg prednisolone (megadose) or 0.9% saline, all administered intravenously. The study ended 20 h after meconium aspiration and the lungs were then scored for histopathology. Animals not treated with prednisolone deteriorated after 8 h while respiration rate, oxygenation, pH and partial pressure of carbon dioxide values were better in the prednisolone-treated groups. Histopathology scores were better in the treatment groups compared with the control group, with megadose giving the best result. At the end of the study, serum malondialdehyde levels were significantly higher in the megadose prednisolone group compared with the other two groups. In conclusion, we determined that prednisolone reduced physiological and histological changes in puppies with MAS and that a 30 mg/kg dose was more effective than 2 mg/kg.Article The Effects of Sildenafil Citrate (Viagra) in the Early Phase of Healing Process in Open Wounds in Dogs(Vysoka Skola veterinarni Farmaceuticka, 2003) Tas, A; Atasoy, N; Özbek, H; Aslan, L; Yüksel, H; Ceylan, E; Dagoglu, GIn vivo (n = 16) and in vitro (n = 16) experiments were conducted in dogs to describe the effects of sildenafil citrate (viagra) on histopathological changes during the healing process with respect to angiogenesis and compare vasodilatative effects of sildenafil citrate, acetylcholine and sodium nitroprusside. General anaesthesia was performed with 0.2% ketamine HCl by intravenous drip after premedication with xylazine (5 mg.kg(-1)) and atropine sulphate (0.05 mg.kg(-1)). Round open wounds were created in all skin layers on anterior brachial region in all animals. On days 1, 3, 5 and 7 following the operation sildenafil citrate (25 mg) (n = 8) and saline (n = 8) were orally administered. Wound tissues were dissected for histological observation on days 3, 6, and 9. Animals receiving sildenafil citrate had greater granulosa tissue more apparent capillary network and greather fibroblast proliferation than control group on day 6. Vasorelaxant effects of sildenafil citrate, acetylcholine and sodium nitroprusside on a. brachialis were investigated in vitro. In this study, relative vasorelaxant effects of sildenafil citrate, acetylcholine and sodium nitroprusside were 4.91, 5.75 and 6.70, respectively. Results of this study suggest that sildenafil citrate does enhance the healing process by stimulating angiogenesis.Article Levels of Some Vitamins, Trace Elements and Electrolytes in Rams With Rumen Acidosis and Laminitis(indian veterinary Journal, 2003) Ceylan, E; Dede, S; Tas, A; Donmez, N; Atasoy, N; Keles, IFeeding lambs with high grain rations (80-95% concentrate) generally increases the incidence of digestive disturbances related with rumen acidosis (Britton and Stock, 1986). Rumen acidosis varies from subacute to acute from, and is associated with various secondary disordes such as laminitis, polioencephalomalacia, rumenitis, and liver abscesses (Brent, 1976; Nocek, 1988). The present study was aimed to investigate the levels of some vitamins, trace elements and electrolytes in rams with laminitis.
