Article Acupuncture in Neuromuscular Lesions of Animals(British Medical Acupuncture Society, 1999) Altug, M.E.; Tekeoglu, I.; Alkan, I.; Atasoy, N.; Keles, I.Acupuncture treatments are described in a dog with thoracic disc herniation, a cat with spinal injury, a dog with neurological disorders caused by cerebral contusion and two cross-bred calves with spastic paresis. The beneficial effects of acupuncture are reported: notably improvements in the extensor thrust, patella and coccygeal reflexes, balance, defaecation and micturition.Article Effect of Number of Pregnancies on Bone Mineral Density(Sage Publications Ltd, 2010) Hiz, O.; Ediz, L.; Tekeoglu, I.This study investigated the effect of the number of pregnancies on bone mineral density (BMD) in 320 post-menopausal women aged between 49 and 64 years. Cases were selected from people with similar lifestyles and stratified into five groups according to the number of pregnancies. Each group was divided into two subgroups according to the duration of the menopause (3 - 5 years versus 6 - 10 years). Lumbar (L2 - L4) and femoral neck BMD were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry and T-score values were used in the statistical evaluation. No significant difference was found between the number of pregnancies and BMD within each group based on the same menopause duration, but a significant correlation was found in most groups based on menopause duration: T-scores decreased as menopause duration increased. Changes in BMD are likely to be related to menopause duration, rather than the number of pregnancies.Article Effects of Intra-Articular Injections of Sodium Hyaluronate (Orthovisc) and Betamethasone on Osteoarthritis of the Knee(1998) Tekeoglu, I.; Adak, B.; Goksoy, T.; Tosun, N.The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy and tolerability of intra-articular injections of 20 mg of Sodium Hyaluronate and 3 mg- betamethasone in an open randomized trial. 40 patients with gonarthritis were randomly allocated in 2 different groups of 20 people. All subjects included in the groups were female with mean age of 57.84 57.84±5.66 and 58.26±6.05 years. Intra-articular injections were administered once a week for three weeks. All patients suffering from inflammatory knee osteoarthritis were examined prior to and after the study. Efficacy rates of the two treatment methods during subsequent examinations in the 3(rd) and 15(th) weeks were noted. WOMAC assessment, Visual Analogue Scale, clinical severity and radiological severity according to Kellgren Lawrance index were also assessed in both groups. Both medications were well tolerated with no complications. Results in the 3(rd) week were in favour of betamethasone group. However there were clinically significant difference in favour of Sodium Hyaluronate (Orhovisc) treatment group on the 15(th) week. According to results of 15 week follow-up study comparing the efficacy and tolerability rates between Sodium Hyaluronate and Betamethasone, Hyaluronate injection could be more effective in osteoarthritis on the long term basis.Conference Object The Impact of Socioeconomic Status on Clinical Parameters in Female Psa Patients(Clinical & Exper Rheumatology, 2021) Tekeoglu, I.; Nas, K.; Keskin, Y.; Kilic, E.; Sargin, B.; Kasman, Acer S.; Tuncer, T.Article Investigation Into the Possibilities of Using Ear Acupressure for Increasing the Pain Threshold During Athletic Training(1998) Tekeoglu, I.; Adak, B.; Ercan, M.In order to investigate the possibilities for increasing the pain threshold of athletes, 60 healthy volunteers were divided equally into a test and a placebo group. Pressure sensitivity on the dorsal surface of the toe was measured with an algometer before and after manual stimulation of the 'ear' point in the test group and before and after mock stimulation in the placebo group. Results showed a statistically significant (P<0.05) increase in the pain threshold in the test group. These results suggest possible applications of ear acupressure in athletic training, especially in the prophylactic treatment of the minor aches and pains associated with the struggle for higher performance.Article Lumbosacral Angle in Lowback Pain(1996) Tekeoglu, I.; Adak, B.; Bozkurt, M.; Kara, M.; Aydinhoglu, A.Fifty patients with low back pain were evaluated for a possible relationship between the increase of lumbar lordosis (Ferguson's angle) and a group of chronic low back pain disorders such us fibromyalgias, lumbar disc degeneration, lumbar disc bulging, lumbar arthrosis and pain due to segmental instabilite. Another group consisted of thirty-eight healthy subjects who has never claimed previous backpain history were undergone spinal x-ray as a control group. The angle between a line parallel to the cranial end plate of S 1 vertebrae and a horizontal line was defined for the Ferguson's angle. In both groups patients were 30 years old or over. We also measured spinal instability in both groups by a vertical line from the middle of the corpus of L 3 vertebrae. The results showed that in the low back pain group there was a statistically significant increase in the Ferguson's angle and 62% of this group had spinal instability. In the control group the Ferguson's angle was in normal range and only 4% of them had spinal instability.Article The Pneumatic Compression Test and Modified Pneumatic Compression Test in the Diagnosis of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome(Sage Publications Ltd, 2007) Tekeoglu, I.; Dogan, A.; Demir, G.; Dolar, E.There are no precise criteria for the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS): the history is useful but the value of the various provocative tests is questionable. The purpose of this study was to examine the diagnostic value of a new provocative test, the 'modified pneumatic compression test' in CTS. The study group consisted of 37 patients with 50 symptomatic CTS hands. A control group of 50 healthy volunteers was recruited. The diagnosis was based on a combination of the history, the clinical findings on examination and electrophysiological criteria. Sensitivity for the pneumatic compression and the modified pneumatic compression tests were 68% and 84%, respectively. Specificities for these tests were 97% and 95%, respectively. The modified pneumatic compression test demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity for CTS. This test facilitated the diagnosis and was easy to use. It may reduce referrals for neurophysiology testing, and so reduce costs.Article The Relationship Between Shoulder Impingement Syndrome and Sleep Quality(verduci Publisher, 2013) Tekeoglu, I.; Ediz, L.; Hiz, O.; Toprak, M.; Yazmalar, L.; Karaaslan, G.BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to examine potential relationship between subjective sleep quality and degree of pain in patients with shoulder impingement syndrome (SIS). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fourty patients with shoulder impingement syndrome were evaluated using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Shoulder Disability Questionnaire (SDQ). Forty three of age and sex matched healthy subjects were included in the control group. RESULTS: There was a significant difference between the patient and control groups in terms of all PSQI global scores and subdivisions (p < 0.01). The pain scores assessed by SDQ were positively correlated with the scores for subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep duration, habitual sleep efficiency, and sleep disturbance (r = 0.49/p < 0.01, r = 0.44/p < 0.01, r = 0.36/p < 0.05, r = 0.40/p < 0.05, and r = 0.37/p < 0.05 respectively). The comparison of total SDQ pain and global PSQI scores also revealed a significant correlation (r = 0.54/p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Subjective sleep disturbance connected to shoulder pain was found obviously in patients with SIS. For this reason, patients with shoulder pain due to SIS may benefit from the pain killers and cognitive-behavioral interventions that specifically target sleep disturbances. Further studies which contain polysomnographic assessments, as well as determine psychologic status are still needed to put forth sleep quality in patients with SIS.Article Rheumatic Findings in Hyperparathyroidism. a Case Report(1996) Adak, B.; Tuncer, I.; Tekeoglu, I.Hyperparathyroidism is a general term indicating an increased level of parathyroid hormone in the blood. The condition is generally divided into three types: primary, secondary, and tertiary. A number of rheumatic findings are associated with parathyroid hormone excess. In this study a case is presented of a woman with primary hyperparathyroidism and its rheumatic manifestations due to an intrathymic parathyroid adenoma.Article Suppression of Experimental Pain by Auriculopressure(BMJ Publishing Group, 1996) Tekeoglu, I.; Adak, B.; Ercan, M.In a controlled trial at a University Clinic of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, healthy student volunteers were given auriculopressure to investigate its analgesic effect. There were two study groups, each containing 30 volunteers. The first group was given auriculopressure to the toe somatic point on the ear, with pressure sensitivity being measured on the skin of the toe with an algometer device before and after ear stimulation. The control group had the same measurements with placebo stimulation to the ear. In the auriculopressure group the increase in pain threshold was statistically significant. In the placebo control group there was no significant change. These results suggest that auriculopressure could be a useful method for suppression of post-traumatic somatic pain.
