Article The Effect of Vitamin C and Vitamin E Administration for Treatment and Protection on Serum Vitamin Levels in Rats With Experimentally Fluorosis Created(Ataturk Universitesi, 2021) Öner, A.C.; Çetin, S.; Yörük, I.H.; Dede, S.This study aimed to determine the vitamins A-D and E levels in rats with experimental fluorosis and in whom vitamins, C and E were administered for prevention and treatment. One-month-old Wistar-Albino rats were used as material in the study. Nine groups of 8 animals each were studied. Sodium fluoride (NaF) solutions (150 mg/kg) prepared in drinking water were administered ad-libitum during the study. Vitamin C (100 mg/kg), Vitamin E (300 mg/kg) and Vitamin C + Vitamin E (100 mg/kg + 300 mg/kg) were administered to the protection group with water containing 150 ppm NaF for 16 weeks/day. Water containing 150 ppm NaF was given ad-libitum for 16 weeks in the treatment group, and then Vitamin C (100 mg/kg), Vitamin E (300 mg/kg) and Vitamin C + Vitamin E (100 mg/kg + 300 mg/kg) were administered along with normal drinking water for 4 weeks. At the end of sixteen weeks, blood samples were taken from the rats and their serums were removed. Serum Retinol, α-Tocopherol, Vitamin D3 levels were determined by HPLC. In the fluorosis group, it was found that there was no change in serum vitamin A and vitamin D levels with the application of vitamins C and E for treatment and protection, but a decrease in vitamin E level. As a result, it was concluded that the administration of vitamin E is effective in both the prevention and treatment of fluorosis cases. © 2021 Ataturk Universitesi. All rights reserved.Article Hplc Determination of Sugar Contents Based on Harvest Season in Almonds(Chemical Publishing Co., 2007) Balta, M.F.; Yörük, I.H.; Dogan, A.; Erez, M.E.; Battal, P.This study presents in comparison with harvest seasons sugar contents in 18 promising almond selections [Prunus dulcis (Mill.) D.A. Webb.] from Balikesir (western Anatolia, Turkey). Their majority had kernel weight over one gram since large kernel is a desired fruit characteristics for almond breeding efforts. Nuts of almond genotypes were collected at two seasons based on their harvest times. The harvest seasons were late August for 8 promising genotypes and early September for other 8 genotypes. Sugar contents were detected by HPLC Selections harvested in late August and early September averagely contained 2.19-2.31 g/100 g sucrose, 0.68-0.92 g/100 g maltose, 2.09-1.82 g/100 g glucose and 4.08-3.41 g/100 g fructose. Sugar contents of selections did not differ by harvest season statistically. Whereas, significant differences were found among selections for each harvest season. In addition, the mean sugar was fructose in 12 genotypes, sucrose in 4 genotypes and glucose in one genotype.Article Separation of Retinol Acetate, Vitamin a Palmitate, Α- and Γ- Tocopherol by Reverse-Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography and Determination of These Vitamins in Van Lake Fish (Chalcalburnus Tarichi)(Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey, 1997) Testereci, H.; Yörük, I.H.; Akyüz, A.; Saǧmanligil, H.The resolution properties of several commercial columns for vitamin A and E standards by reverse phase chromatography methods have been examined. Hypersil MOS column with methanol-water (96:4) and acetonitrile-water (90:10) mobile phase, Shimadzu-ODS column with methanol-water (96:4) mobile phase have acceptable resoluion in separation of vitamin A esters. Shimadzu-ODS column/96 % methanol and Shimadzu-C8/90% acetonitrile have the acceptable resolution ratio for vitamin E isomers. Methanol extracts of heart muscle and gill in Van Lake fish (Chalcalburnus tarichi) have been examined for vitamin A and E by high performance liquid chromatography. Avarage retinol acetate, vitamin A palmitate, alpha tocopherol, gamma tocopherol in heart muscle of Van Lake fish, have been found as 162±23 ng/g, 18±2.2 ng/g, 8.5±1.0 μg/g, 505.7±94 ng/g, respectively. The vitamin levels in gills have been determined as retinol acetate 231.5±38 ng/g, vitamin A palmitate 23.8±3.5 ng/g, alpha tocopherol 12.4±0.77 μg/g, gamma tocopherol 350.1±97 ng/g. A significant differences have been found among the retinol acetate-vitamin A patmitate and alpha-gamma tocopherol values in heart muscles and gills (P<0.05). A negative correlation for retinol acetate between heart muscle and gill (r:-.86), vitamin A palmitate between heart muscle and gill (r:-.73) and between retinol acetate-alpla tocopherol in heart muscles (r:-.71) have been observed. A positiv correlation between retinol acetate and alpha tocopherol in gills (r:+.52) has been found. No correlation has seen between heart muscles and gills for gamma tocopherol values.
