Article Atypical Fibroxanthoma of the Eyelid(TIP ARASTIRMALARI DERNEGI, 2008) Kiliç, A.; Kösem, M.; Çinal, A.; Yaşar, T.; Demirok, A.Atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX) is probably a neoplasm of fibrohistiocytic lineage. The tumor arise in the skin and has strikingly atypical properties. We report a case of AFX that was excised from the left lower eyelid of a twelve-year-old girl. The nodular mass was reported as AFX. Though this tumor has the capability to recur aggresively, no recurrence was noted in the present case. Malignant fibrous histiocytoma, atypical fibrous histiocytoma, squamous cell carcinoma, sarcoma, dermatofibroma protuberans, and reticulohistiocytoma should be included in differential diagnosis.Article Bilateral Intraorbital Hemorrhage With Factor Xiii Deficiency After Strabismus Surgery(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2017) Seven, E.; Batur, M.; Çınal, A.; Yaşar, T.; Demirok, A.Factor XIII deficiency is a very rare, inherited bleeding disorder. In this case, we report a child with intraorbital hemorrhage following strabismus surgery was diagnosed with factor XIII deficiency. © 2017, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. Recession to both lateral recti muscles was performed. When the patient was examined one week, postoperatively, he complained of pain in the right eye. Upon physical examination, hyperemia and minimal swelling of the surgical area were observed. The situation was diagnosed as an abscess. The abscess was drained and the eye was irrigated with cefazolin and gentamicin solutions. All signs and symptoms were determined to be resolved in subsequent postoperative visits. © 2017, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. It can affect ocular and extraocular structures derived from the neural crest. A small part of the thyroid gland originates from the neural crest, and defects in thyroid origination can result in thyroid agenesis. Thyroid agenesis is a cause of congenital hypothyroidism. We have presented clinical features the first case of ARS associated with congenital hypothyroidism. © 2017, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. Conjunctival resection of lesion was performed and no recurrence was found in the follow-up examination at 9 months. This is an uncommon clinical condition in which conjunctival swelling occurs as a consequence of enlarged lymphatics of the bulbar conjunctiva. © 2018, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. Sixty-four eyes of the 64 patients underwent phacoemulsification and IOP measurements using Goldmann applanation tonometer (GAT), Tono-Pen applanation tonometer (TAT), and Pascal digital contour tonometer (DCT) the first day after surgery. Central corneal thickness (CCT) measurements were used to quantify the postoperative corneal edema. Intraclass correlation coefficient and Bland-Altman plot were used to assess the compatibility of IOP measurements among three method pairs. TAT and DCT IOP measurements were found to be compatible with each other (p=0.141) in the corneal edema group. The GAT and TAT IOP measurements in the eyes with corneal edema were inversely proportional to the CCT values (p=0.011 and p=0.033, respectively), but the DCT relationship was not statistically significant (p=0.44). The lack of a significant relationship between DCT and CCT in edematous corneas may suggest that DCT, as in normal corneas, can perform CCT-independent measurements. However, there is still no gold standard method for IOP measurement in edematous corneas. © 2020, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. Article Orbita Breast Metastasis(TIP ARASTIRMALARI DERNEGI, 2008) Gül, A.; Kiliç, A.; Çinal, A.; Avcu, S.; Yaşar, T.Breast carcinomas are among the most frequent metastatic lesions of the orbit. Diagnosing the disease earlier is of great importance in maximising the life quality of the patient. We report a 35-year-old-female with a retroorbital mass due to the metastases from her left breast invasive ductal carcinoma. Pre-existing malignant diseases should be considered in differential diagnoses of external ophthalmoplegia, central retinal vein occlusion, optic nerve meningioma, and proptosis. The ophthalmologists should be aware that eye, particularly orbita breast metastases may be easily overlooked and a late diagnosis would not work.Article The Refractive Changes and Long-Term (3 Years) Results of Radial Keratotomy Performed at High Altitude(2001) Yaşar, T.; Ylmaz, O.F.Purpose: To evaluate the development of regression or progression following radial keratotomy (RK) performed at high altitude (1,720 meters) at long-term follow-up (3 years). Methods: Thirty-nine eyes of 21 myopia patients (between -3.25 D and -11.00 D) whose ages were 19-32 years were included in the study. The RK procedures were performed in standard Russian style. Results: The average spherical equivalent cycloplegic refractions were -5.49 D ± 2.08 (SD) preoperatively, -1.64 ± 1.59 D in the short-term (3.41 ± 1.46 months) and -1.40 ± 1.71 D in the long-term (30.72 ± 4.36 months) follow-up period. There was no statistically significant difference between these values at the short- and long-term follow-up measurements (t = -1.57, P = .12). Conclusions: The refractive changes following RK performed at high altitude occur through a combination of both the direct effect of reduced barometric pressure and the edematous corneal expansion because of hypoxia. An ophthalmologist performing RK surgery at high altitude must consider the long-lasting therapeutic effects of high altitude surgery compared to surgery at sea level. Although some suspected factors in sterile keratitis have been described, the etiology remains unclear. We report 2 sterile keratitis cases after CXL and discuss possible etiology in these cases.
