Article Antimicrobial Resistance in Gram-Negative Hospital Isolates: Results of the Turkish Hitit-2 Surveillance Study of 2007(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2009) Gur, D.; Hascelik, G.; Aydin, N.; Telli, M.; Gultekin, M.; Ogunc, D.; Yaman, G.Resistance rates to amikacin, ciprofloxacin, ceftazidime, cefepime, imipenem, cefoperazone/sulbactam and piperacillin/tazobactam in Escherichia coli (n = 438), Klebsiella pneumoniae (n = 444), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (n = 210) and Acinetobacter baumanni (n =200) were determined with E-test in a multicenter surveillance study (HITIT-2) in 2007. ESBL production in Escherichia coli and K. pneumoniae was investigated following the CLSI guidelines. Overall 42.0% of E.coli and 41.4% of K. pneumoniae were ESBL producers. In E. coli, resistance to imipenem was not observed, resistance to ciprofloxacin and amikacin was 58.0% and 5.5% respectively. In K. pneumoniae resistance to imipenem, ciprofloxacin and amikacin was 3.1%, 17.8% 12.4% respectively. In P. aeruginosa the lowest rate of resistance was observed with piperacillin/tazobactam (18.1%). A. baumanni isolates were highly resistant to all the antimicrobial agents, the lowest level of resistance was observed against cefoperazone/sulbactam (52.0%) followed by imipenem (55.5%). This study showed that resistance rates to antimicrobials are high in nosocomial isolates and show variations among the centers.Article Case Report: Two Plasmodium Vivax Malaria Cases in the Van Province(2009) Karahocagil, M.K.; Baran, A.I.; Yaman, G.; Ciçek, M.; Bilici, A.; Binici, I.; Akdeniz, H.Malaria is an important parasitic infection which is endemic in the Eastern Mediterranean and Southeastern Anatolia regions and sporadic in other regions of Turkey, while Plasmodium vivax is the most common cause. Two patients who were admitted to our hospital in October with complaints of high fever, chills, nausea-vomiting, generalized body pain and fatigue and diagnosed as P. Vivax malaria are presented, because they were two brothers with no history of travel outside of Van city.Article Evaluation of Related With Age of Ifn-Gamma Levels of Treated Leprosy Patients and Their Healthy Relatives Compared With a Control Group(2006) Güdücüoglu, H.; Berktaş, M.; Bozkurt, H.; Akdeniz, N.; Kutluay, N.; Yaman, G.; Andiç, S.OBJECTIVE: This study was to search how change with age of IFN-gamma (IFN-gamma) levels of leprosy patients who had received or still undergoing treatment, their healthy close relatives and healthy people. METHOD: From a total of 39 patients, 28 had received leprosy treatment and recovered with some defects [17 Lepromatous Leprosy(LL), 7 Borderline Lepromatous (BL), 3 Borderlien Tuberculoid (BT), 1 Tuberculoid form (TT)] and 11 (9 LL, 2 BL) were undergoing therapy in a hospital at that moment. Close relatives of the patients included 39 people living with treated patients in the same house and the control group consisted of 39 healthy people. Human IFN-gamma kits were used as a solid phase sandwich ELISA method. RESULTS: The IFN-gamma values of treated leprosy patients, therapy receiving patients, relatives group's and control group's were detected as 11-20 pg/mL, 11-18 pg/mL, 12-145 pg/mL and 12-65 pg/mL respectively. CONCLUSION: According to the statistical evaluation of these three groups, IFN-gamma levels of patients were detected lower than other two groups.
