Article Analyzing Factors Affecting Household Milk Products' Expenditures in Turkey: a Multivariate Heckman Sample Selection System Approach(Ankara Univ, Fac Agr, 2015) Terin, Mustafa; Bilgic, Abdulbaki; Guler, Irfan Okan; Yavuz, FahriIn this study, we analyze the effects of socio-demographic and economic factors of households on the consumption of milk and milk products by considering the recent increased economic trend in Turkey. The multivariate Heckman sample selection system (MSS) is used to analyze the data. The likelihood of spending and levels of expenditure on each foodstuff are jointly analyzed by assuming all pairwise cross correlation. The data used in this study are obtained from Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) of 2010 Household Consumption Expenditures Survey (HCES). After discarding missing observations and outliers from the sample, the data finally contain 9442 individual observations. Results indicate that households with younger household heads (20-29 years) as compared households with household heads aged 60 and over are less likely to spend and spend less on milk, yoghurt, cheese with other dairy products in both regions. Families with children 0-5 years old are more likely to spend and spend significantly more on dairy products than that of families with other kids combinations in both regions. Families with annual income 15-30 thousand, 31-45 thousand and 45 thousand and over in Turkish Liras (TL) as compared to the base group (families with annual income 15 thousand TL) spend more 4.5 TL, 9.8 TL and 16.6 TL respectively on cheese and other dairy products in urban area, while these figures are 3.6 TL, 8.0 TL and 9.3 TL for rural households, respectively.Article A Comparative Analysis on International Competitiveness of Turkey's Poultry Meat Sector Among Selected Countries(Kahramanmaras Sutcu Imam Univ Rektorlugu, 2019) Terin, Mustafa; Yavuz, FahriThe aim of this study was to determine the Turkey's international competitiveness power in poultry meat market and to make a comparison with major players of markets, namely, Brazil, USA, Netherland, Poland, Germany, France Thailand, China and Ukraine. The data were obtained from databases of International Trade Center (2001-2017 years). The compel it iveness power of the countries were calculated using the Export Market Share Index (ESI), Revealed Comparative Advantages Index (RCA) and Trade Balance Index TBD. In the study, Turkey's ESI and RCA index scores especially increased steadily in recent. years and as of 2017. ESI and RCA index scores increased to 2.04 and 2.28 respectively. According to the 2017 RCA index score; Brazil. Poland and Ukraine had a strong comparative advantages, Netherland and Turkey had medium comparative advantages, USA, France and Thailand had a weak comparative advantage while Germany and China had no comparative advantages in poultry meat. trade. Çalışmanın ana materyalini TRA1 bölgesinde yer alanErzurum, Erzincan ve Bayburt illerinde yapılan 360 adet anket verisi oluşturmaktadır. Kadınların karar almasüreçlerine katılımını etkileyen özellikler sıralı probit modeli ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre,yaşın artması, evli ve dul olma, uğraşı alanı ile ilgili eğitim alma, aile kararlarında fikrinin sorulması, aile gelirinekatkı sağlama ve ürünlerin satılmasına katılma durumu kadınların gelir getirici faaliyetlerde karar almasürecine katılımını olumlu yönde etkilerken, okur-yazar olmama, işletme büyükdükçe ve gelir kaynağınınçoğunun tarımsal faaliyetler olma durumu kadınların karar alma sürecine katılımını olumsuz yöndeetkilemektedir. Gelir getirici faaliyetlerde kırsal kadına destek verilmesi, bilgi ve becerilerinin geliştirilmesi,üretim ve yönetişim ile ilgili konularda kadınlara eğitim verilmesi ve kırsal kadına pozitif ayrımcılık yapılmasıbu çalışmanın önerileri olarak sunulabilir.Article A Spatial Equilibrium Analysis for the Possible Regional Impacts of the European Union Full Membership on the Turkey's Dairy Industry(Czech Academy Agricultural Sciences, 2017) Terin, Mustafa; Yavuz, FahriIn the study, the potential regional imp acts of the European Union full memberships on the Turkey's dairy sector were analysed using a Spatial Equilibrium Model with 12 NUTS 1 regions as well as the European Union as being another region. According to the results, Turkey starts importing butter mainly to the Istanbul region and powder milk to the Black Sea regions, while exporting white cheese from Istanbul and plain yoghurt from the Central Anatolia and the North-eastern Anatolian regions. In the process of the European Union full membership, agricultural policies must focus on the enhancement of milk productivity to decrease the cost and to improve hygiene to meet the European Union standards for a smooth accession.
