Article Comparing the Efficiency of Er,cr:ysgg Laser and Diode Laser for the Treatment of Generalized Aggressive Periodontitis(Springer London Ltd, 2022) Talmac, Ahmet Cemil; Yayli, Nazli Zeynep Alpaslan; Calisir, Metin; Ertugrul, Abdullah SeckinBackground This study aims to determine the effects of Er,Cr:YSGG and diode laser treatments on IL-1 beta, IL-8, and TNF-alpha levels in patients with generalized aggressive periodontitis. Methods Twenty-six generalized aggressive periodontitis patients were enrolled in the study. We performed three treatment models: "scaling and root planning (SRP-only)," "SRP + Er,Cr:YSGG laser," and "SRP + diode laser." Each experimental quadrant was randomly allocated to the control group or the test group. The IL-1 beta, IL-8, and TNF-alpha levels were analyzed with an enzyme-linked immune-sorbent assay. Results When the baseline and post-treatment IL-1 beta, IL-8, and TNF-alpha levels were compared, the most significant difference was observed in the SRP +Er,Cr:YSGG group and the least difference was observed in the SRP-only group. Conclusions The use of Er,Cr:YSGG laser as an addition to the conventional mechanical periodontal treatment was found to be more successful than the diode laser + SRP use in aggressive periodontitis treatment.Article The Effect of Vocational Awareness Level on Dental Anxiety and Oral Health Among the Students of Dentistry(Kerman Univ Medical Sciences, 2019) Yayli, Nazli Zeynep Alpaslan; Tunc, Serap Keskin; Kaki, Gulter Devrim; Altindal, DicleBACKGROUND AND AIM: The purpose of this study was assessing oral health status and dental anxiety differences between the freshman and senior dental students and the effect of awareness on dental practices. METHODS: Freshman (n = 71) and senior dental students (n = 41) were included in this study. All participants were applied Corah Dental Anxiety Scale (C-DAS) and asked for the frequency of dental visits in a year. Gingival index (GI), plaque index (PI), bleeding on probing (BOP), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) index were recorded. Number Cruncher Statistical System (NCSS) program and Shapiro-Wilk, t, Mann-Whitney U, Pearson chi-square, and Fisher-Freeman-Halton tests were used for statistical analysis (P < 0.0500). RESULTS: C-DAS score of the freshman students was found significantly higher than the senior students (P < 0.0500). There was a statistically significant difference in the frequency of dental visits between freshman and senior students (P < 0.0010). GI, PI, and BOP values of the freshman students were significantly higher than the senior students (P < 0.0010). There was no statistical differences between PD and CAL measurements (P > 0.0500). It was found that the DMFT index of freshman students was significantly higher than the senior students (P < 0.0010). CONCLUSION: This study has shown that dental anxiety decreases as awareness and consciousness increase in terms of dental practice. More anxious participants' oral health is weak, individuals with high dental anxiety make fewer visits to the dentists and need more dental practices.Article Periodontal Health of Unilateral Labially Vs. Palatally Impacted Maxillary Canines Erupted by Closed Eruption Technique(Urban & Vogel, 2023) Yayli, Nazli Zeynep Alpaslan; Kaya, Yesim; Cigerim, Saadet CinarsoyObjective This study's aim was to compare the periodontal health of labially and palatally impacted maxillary canines erupted by closed eruption technique, and to compare them with the contralateral canines that served as control teeth. Materials and methods A total of 32 subjects, 17 with unilateral labially impacted maxillary canines and 15 with palatally impacted maxillary canines were enrolled in this study. Pretreatment maxillary canine variables were evaluated from initial panoramic radiographs using Nolla stage, alpha-angle, d-depth and s-sector. The closed eruption technique was used for surgical exposure of the impacted teeth. Posttreatment periodontal parameters such as plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), gingival bleeding index (GBI), probing depth (PD), keratinized gingival width (KGW), attached gingival width (AGW), and gingival thickness (GT) were evaluated to compare the periodontal health with the contralateral canines. Results Intergroup comparison results exhibited insignificant differences in all periodontal parameters between the labially and palatally impacted maxillary canines. Intragroup comparison results showed a significant increase in PI, GI, GBI, and PD, and a significant decrease in AGW, KGW, and GT in the impacted teeth compared to the controls, except for PI in the palatally impacted maxillary canines. Conclusion The decrease in KGW, AGW, and GT was not associated with the pre-eruptive position of the impacted teeth. These side effects seen after orthodontic treatment of impacted teeth should be followed carefully in the long term.
