Due to the complex anatomy of the craniocervical junction, many-questions are encountered in the diagnosis and treatment of such fractures. However, in centers without Neuro-navigation and O-arm, free hand technique still remains a viable option for the surgical treatment of such cases. All rights reserved.Article Contrast Enhanced Computed Tomography Findings of Persistent Truncus Arteriosus; a Rare Congenital Heart Disease(Elsevier Inc, 2020) Turkoglu, S.; Batur, A.; Yokuş, A.; Dündar, İ.; Akinci, M.B.Persistent Truncus Arteriosus is a cyanotic congenital heart anomaly in which a single trunk supplies both the pulmonary and systemic circulation, instead of a separate aorta and a pulmonary trunk. It is usually classified as a conotruncal anomaly. Due to parallel fetal circulation, truncus arteriosus does not cause any haemodynamic problem in utero. However it is a major problem postnatally and, if left untreated, approximately 80% of infants die within the first year. Diagnosis should be made early by radiologists and cardiologists due to fatal illness. We found it valuable to present a case of truncus arteriosus with computerized tomography findings because of its rare occurrence. © 2020 The AuthorsArticle Does Growth Hormone Therapy Enlarge Pituitary Adenomas(Galenos Publishing House, 2022) Bitkin, E.Ç.; Kara, C.; Karaman, S.; Başaranoğlu, M.; Yokuş, A.; Tuncer, O.Objective: Pituitary adenomas are detected incidentally in some cases of childhood growth hormone deficiency. Growth hormones may affect tumor growth. This study analyzed the reliability of growth hormone therapy in patients with non-functioning pituitary adenomas. Methods: The study group included 16 hypopituitary patients with incidentally detected non-functioning pituitary adenoma and treated with recombinant growth hormone. Age- and sex-matched 16 healthy children with incidental pituitary adenoma detected during investigation of chronic headache were selected as the control group. The data of the two groups were retrospectively reviewed and compared regarding the change in adenoma size over time. Results: Changes in adenoma size in the patient and control groups were -0.1 (-0.8-0.3) mm and -0.1 (-0.5-0.3) mm, respectively (p=0.664). Adenoma size growth was detected in 3 patients in the patient group and 5 patients in the control group (p=0.685). Conclusion: Our data suggest that recombinant growth hormone therapy does not produce pituitary adenomas, and thus its use is safe in growth hormone deficient children with incidentally detected non-functioning pituitary adenomas. © Copyright 2022 by Medical Journal of Bakırköy published by Galenos Yayınevi.Article Measurement of Postoperative Liver Volume Changes in Patients With Gastric Cancer by Computed Tomography(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2023) Yokuş, A.; Arslan, H.; Akdemir, Z.; Akbudak, İ.; Almalı, N.; Kotan, Ç.; Doğan, E.One of the most prevalent cancer worldwide is gastric cancer. Surgical treatment is the only curative method. In this study, we aimed to investigate the changes in liver volume before and after open gastrectomy in patients diagnosed with gastric cancer. We retrospectively analyzed the computed tomography scans of 70 patients who underwent gastric cancer surgery between June 2013 and December 2020. Preoperative and postoperative total liver volume, the volume of segments II-III, and segment IV were measured. The data obtained from volume measurements were compared statistically. Of the 70 subjects included in the study, 48 were male and 22 were female, with an average age of 64.2±11.8 years. In the postoperative phase, the volume of segments II-III and IV dropped significantly compared to the preoperative period (p=0.001 for both). Total liver volume exhibited a mild decrease in the postoperative period, but the total volume loss was not statistically significant (p=0.744). In this study, we detected significant volume loss in segments II-III and segment IV after open gastrectomy. All rights reserved.Article The Role of the Virtual Touch Tissue Quantification Technique in Differentiating Between Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia and Prostatic Carcinoma(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2023) Akdemir, Z.; Yokuş, A.; Taken, K.; Alpaslan, M.; Arslan, H.; Akdeniz, H.Virtual Touch Tissue Quantification (VTTQ) is a promising new implementation of the acoustic radiation force pulsed ultrasound technique that has gained popularity in recent years. The present study compares the performance of the VTTQ technique in distinguishing between prostate cancer (PCa) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). VTTQ was performed on 91 prostate nodular lesions in 72 patients with BPH and suspected PCa prior to a prostate histopathologic examination, while 35 healthy volunteers were included in the study as controls. The mean shear wave velocity (SWV) values of the central and peripheral prostate zone were measured in the healthy volunteers, with the SWV at each nodular lesion quantified through the implementation of an acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI). The performance of VTTQ in discriminating between PCa and BPH was compared, and the diagnostic value of VTTQ for PCa was evaluated in terms of sensitivity, specificity and cut-off value. Histopathological examinations detected PCa in 21 of the 91 nodular lesions and BPH in 70. The SWV values (m/s) were significantly higher in prostate cancer than in the BPH and central-peripheral prostate zones (3.85±0.78, 2.29±1.03, 1.65 ±0.95, 1.14±0.56). The mean SWV values of the central-peripheral prostate zones were found to be significantly different from each other. We determined an SWV cut-off value of 3.09 m/s for differentiating between benign and malignant nodules, with a sensitivity and specificity of 90.5% and 80%, respectively. VTTQ can effectively determine the stiffness of prostate nodular lesions, with significantly higher performance discrimination between PCa and BPH. © 2023, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi.
