Yapılan klinik muayenede tortikollis, kendi etrafında dönme ve düsüp ayaga kalkamama, halsizlik, tüylerde karısıklık ve matlık, ishal, asırı kilo kaybı gibi semptomlar saptandı. Parazitolojik bakı sonucunda hastaya askaridiozis ve koksidiozis tanısı konuldu. Hastanın etkenlere yönelik spesifik tedavileri sonrasında iyilestigi belirlendi.Article Changes in Serum Adenosine Deaminase and Isoenzyme Levels in Addition To Routine Liver Biochemical Parameters in Sheep With Chronic Fascioliasis(Univ Federal Santa Maria, 2022) Altug, Nuri; Basbugan, Yildiray; Yuksek, NazmiThis study assessed changes in the levels of adenosine deaminase (ADA) and its isoenzymes in addition to routine liver biochemical parameters in sheep with fascioliasis. The study was conducted on 35 Akkaraman sheep. Of these, 25 sheep were diagnosed with fascioliasis based on anamnesis and clinical signs, and had endoparasites based on parasitological examinations (Fasciola-infected group). The remaining 10 sheep that were sampled from a single healthy herd (same flock) different from the infected group did not have any clinical signs or endoparasites (control group). Total protein (TP), albumin (ALB), and globulin (GLB) levels gradually increased on days after treatment compared to the values measured before treatment; the increases were statistically significant on all days for TP levels but only on day 14 after treatment for GLB levels (P < 0.05). Although, the ALB levels did not increase significantly on days after treatment, the ALB level and ALB/GLB ratio on days 7 and 14 after treatment were still lower than the values of day 21 after treatment and control group (P < 0.05). Total bilirubin (T-Bil) and direct bilirubin (D-Bil) levels on days 14 and 21 were significantly lower than that of day 0 (before treatment) and day 7 after treatment (P < 0.05). These results indicated that the increase in adenosine deaminase (ADA) and ADA1 levels may be due to possible concomitant infection of Fasciola larvae (in the parenchyma) and adults (in the bile duct).Article Detection of Cryptosporidium Spp. in Calves Through Nested Pcr and Kinyoun's Acid-Fast Methods in Van, Turkey(Health & Environment Assoc, 2020) Ayan, Adnan; Kilinc, Ozlem Orunc; Yuksek, Nazmi; Basbugan, YildirayCryptosporidium is a protozoon of zoonotic importance causing infections with diarrhoea and other clinical symptoms in man, domestic, and wild animals. The present study was conducted to determine the prevalence of cryptosporidiosis in diarrhoeic calves which were up to 1 month old in Van, Turkey, using Kinyoun's acid-fast and Nested PCR methods. In this study A total of 164 diarrhoeic calves faecal samples were collected from diarrheic calves at different farms located in Van, Turkey during January 2019 to September 2019. The faecal samples stained with Kinyoun's acid-fast method then examined with microscope. DNAs were extracted from all the faecal samples using RTA stool DNA isolation kit. In order to amplify the SSU rRNA gene region of the DNAs, appropriate primers were used in the Nested PCR. According to the results, In the microscopic examination, Cryptosporidium spp. oocyst were identified in 61 out of 164 diarrhoeic calves faecal samples (37.19%). Cryptosporidium spp. specific bands of 826-864 bp in size were obtained from 72 out of 164 diarrhoeic calves faecal samples (43.9%). To the best of our knowledge, no other previous study is available with concern to molecular investigation of the prevalence of Cryptosporidium in calves around Van, Turkey. With this study, it was revealed that cryptosporidiosis is an important agent in calf diarrhoea, and measures should be taken in this regard.Article Determination of Adenosine Deaminase Activity in Cattle Naturally Infected With Theileria Annulata(Springer, 2008) Altug, Nuri; Yuksek, Nazmi; Agaoglu, Zahid Tevfik; Keles, IhsanThe purpose of this study was to determine serum ADA activity in cattle naturally infected with Theileria annulata. In this study, a total of 37 cross-bred cattle which 27 of it showing clinical signs of theileriosis constituted infected group and 10 healthy cattle as control group were used as animal materials. Infected group divided into three groups according to their PCV values. Cattle with PCV >= 25 were put on group I (n=9), those with PCV 13-24 were put on group II (n=11) and those with PCV >= 12 were put on group III (n=7). Microscopical diagnosis of the disease was also made. Hematological parameters, serum enzyme activities (ADA, AST, ALT and ALP) were determined in all cattle. Hematological results revealed that significant progressive decreases in HGB, PLT, PBML counts and ratios from group I onwards to group III, whereas the WBC, PBPL counts and ratios showed an increase from group I onwards to group III. The serum ADA, AST, ALT and ALP activity increased significantly in all infected groups compared to control group. However, these parameters were also observed to decrease progressively from group I to group III. Furthermore, the highest increase in enzyme activities observed in the infected group I. But, these enzyme's activities started to decrease in infected group II and III in parallel with PBML and PLT counts. Eventhough, this decrease did not reach to the values obtained from control group. On the contrary, PBPL counts and ratios increased in infected group II and III in contrast to decrease in PCV. As a result, increased serum ADA activity in tropical theileriosis may reflect the involvement of the cellular immune responses.Article Determination of Serum Cardiac Biomarkers and Plasma D-Dimer Levels in Anemic Sheep With Babesiosis(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2015) Orunc Kilinc, Ozlem; Goz, Yasar; Yuksek, Nazmi; Basbugan, Yildiray; Yilmaz, Ali Bilgin; Atas, Ahmet DuranIn this study, the cardiac effects of anemia and venous thromboembolism (VTE), reportedly caused by the hemolyzed erythrocytes occurring in sheep with babesiosis, were investigated using cardiac markers and D-dimer (DD). The study included 34 sheep: 24 infected Akkaraman sheep (1-3 years old, diagnosed with babesiosis based on clinical and laboratory findings) and a control group of 10 noninfected healthy sheep of the same breed and age. Hematocrit (Hct) levels were measured in blood obtained from both groups. Cardiac troponin I (cTnI), creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels were measured in serum samples. In addition, the levels of DD were also measured in plasma samples. Sheep with babesiosis were subsequently divided into 3 subgroups according to their Hct levels, which ranged from 13.2% to 16.3% in the first group (n = 8), 20.1% to 25.6% in the second group (n = 8), and 27.4% to 30.3% in the third group (n = 8). Evaluations of the measurements of cTnI, CK-MB, and AST levels indicated statistically significant differences between infected and healthy sheep. Statistically significant differences were not found for DD levels between the 2 groups.Article Diagnosis and Treatment of Umbilical Cord-Derived Tetanus in Neonatal Calves(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2017) Altug, Nuri; Yuksek, Nazmi; Karasu, Abdullah; Ilhan, Fatma; Ceylan, Ebubekir; Ekin, Ismail Hakki; Arslan, SezaiIn this study, umbilical cord-derived neonatal tetanus in calves was identified in Turkey. Four calves with tetanus-specific history and clinical findings were used. Blood samples were taken before and after treatment, and clinical findings were recorded. A tetanus-specific treatment procedure was performed. However, the calves died from not responding to treatment. Pretreatment white blood cell, peripheral blood polymorphonuclear leukocyte, creatine kinase (CK), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels were determined to be high. Aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, CK, and LDH activities were found to increase after treatment compared to before treatment. Gram-positive terminal spore-forming bacilli were observed in bacterioscopic examination of the necrotic tissue and swab samples from the umbilical cord region. The umbilical cord region was determined to be infected in all calves. In histopathological examination, pyogranuloma formation was observed in the wound area, and in Gram staining agents morphologically concordant with Clostridium tetani in necrotic material were observed. Blood serum of the calves was inoculated into mice. All mice died within 2 days after the inoculation, showing tetanus-specific clinical findings. As a result, bacterioscopy and histopathology of the umbilical cord region may be useful for diagnosis in addition to clinical findings. Mice trials may be used in confirming the diagnosis.Article Diagnostic and Prognostic Value of Procalcitonin (Pct), C Reactive Protein (Crp), Nitric Oxide (No) Levels, and Adenosine Deaminase (Ada) Activity in Sheep With Natural Babesiosis Before and After Treatment(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2018) Arslan, Sezai; Altug, Nuri; Muz, Mustafa Necati; Yuksek, Nazmi; Basbugan, Yildiray; Oruk Kilic, OzlemThis study was carried out to reveal the importance of procalcitonin, C reactive protein, nitric oxide levels, and adenosine deaminase activity in the diagnosis and prognosis of the disease in naturally infected sheep with Babesia ovis. Thirty sheep diagnosed clinically and parasitologically as having Babesia ovis were allocated to 2 groups. The first group was treated only with imidocarp dipropionate and the second group with imidocarp dipropionate and flunixine meglumin. On the seventh day after treatment, blood samples were collected again from the sheep in the babesiosis-infected group and the treatment responses were assessed. Serum PCT (1.72 +/- 0.34 ng/mL, P < 0.01), CRP (101.42 +/- 11.73 mu g/mL, P < 0.001), NO (15.77 +/- 2.75 mu mol/L, P < 0.01), and ADA (13.92 +/- 0.88 IU/L, P < 0.01) were higher in sheep with babesiosis than in the healthy sheep (0.49 +/- 0.04 ng/mL, 49.46 +/- 4.57 mu g/mL, 8.15 +/- 0.63 mu mol/L, 9.34 +/- 1.19 IU/L, respectively). When PCT, CRP, NO, and ADA before treatment and after treatment in the infected sheep were compared, the levels of these parameters except for ADA in the second group were determined to have statistically decreased after the treatment. As a result, it has been concluded that the measurements of PCT, CRP, NO, and ADA in sheep with babesiosis may be useful for the diagnosis and prognosis of the disease when assessed in association with clinical examination.Article Doğal Babesiosis’li Koyunlarda Hepsidin Düzeyleri ile Bazı Hematolojik ve Biyokimyasal Parametreler Arasındaki İlişkiler(2018) Yuksek, Nazmi; Başbuğan, Yıldıray; Kılınç, Özlem Orunç; Atçalı, TürkerBu çalışma doğal babesiozisli koyunlarda eritrositlerin hemolizi sonrası hepsidin düzeyleri ile hematolojik ve biyokimyasal bazı parametreler arasında nasıl bir ilişkinin olduğunu belirlemek amacıyla yapıldı. Çalışmaya 20 sağlıklı (Kontrol grubu), 20 doğal babesiozisli olmak üzere toplam 40 koyun dahil edildi. Klinik bulgulara sahip 20 koyunun vena jugularisinden ;biyokimya ve EDTA’lı tüplere kan örnekleri alındı. ;DNA ekstraksiyonu GeneJETViral DNA (ThermoScientific, catalognumber: K0821) ; ;kiti ile prosedüre uygun olarak yapıldı. ; ;Babesia etkenlerinin tespiti için 18S ribozomal RNA gen bölgesine spesifik olan bir çift primer kullanılarak PCR yapıldı. Ampilifiye edilen gen bölgeleri %1’lik agaroz jelde ethidiumbromid ile boyanarak jel görüntüleme cihazında UV ışık altında belirlendi.Yapılan PCR sonucuna göre ise 425 bp pozitiflik belirlendi. EDTA’lı tüplere alınan kanlardan tam hemogram bakılıdı. Biyokimya tüpüne alınan kanlardan serum elde edilerek analiz gününe kadar -20 de donduruldu. Analiz günü çözdürülen serumlardan hepsidin, serum demir seviyesi ve demir bağlama parametreleri ölçüldü. ;Bu çalışmada babesiozisli koyunlarda kontrol grubu ile kıyaslandığında RBC, HTC (p<0,001), HGB (p<0,05) değerlerinin istatistiki azaldığı görüldü. Nötrofil değerlerinde kontrol grubuna göre azalma (p<0,05) meydana gelirken, lenfosit, monosit ve bazofil yüzdesinde ise artış (p<0,05) görüldü. Ayrıca PLT sayılarında önemli oranda (p<0,05) azalma belirlendi. Serum Fe seviyelerinde kontrol grubuna göre istatistiki önem olmamasına rağmen artış (p>0,05) görüldü. Bu çalışmada hepsidin seviyeleri babesia grubunda kontrole göre istatistiki olarak yüksek (p<0,05) olduğu belirlendi. ;Babesiosizli koyunlarda eritrosit parametrelerinde azalma, stres lökogramının geliştiği, demir parametrelerinde ve hepsidin seviyelerinde artmaların olduğu ve diagnostik öneminin olabileceği kanısına varıldı.Article Doğal Babesiozisli Koyunlarda Neopterin, Myeloperoksidaz ve Oksidatif Dna Hasarı Arasındaki İlişki(2024) Çetın, Sedat; Kömüroğlu, Ahmet Ufuk; Yüksek, Veysel; Dede, Semiha; Kılınç, Ozlem Orunç; Yuksek, NazmiAmaç: Bu çalışma doğal babesiozisli koyunlarda Neopterin, MPO ve DNA ha- sarı arasında bir ilişki olup olmadığının belirlenmesi amacıyla planlandı. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmaya 1-3 yaşlarında Akkaraman 20 sağlıklı koyun (Kontrol) ve 20 doğal babesiozisli (Hasta) olmak üzere 40 koyun dahil edildi. Tüm çalışma gruplarından V. Jugularis’ten usulüne uygun biyokimya tüplerine kan örnekler alındı. Yapılan froti sonucuna göre etken belirlenen hayvanlarda ve ayrıca hastalık etkeni PCR sonucuna göre doğrulandı. Sağlıklı ve hastalıklı hayvanlardan elde edilen serumlardan Neopterin, MPO ve oksidatif DNA ha- sarı (8-OHdG) ELISA methodu kullanılarak belirlendi. Bulgular: Neopterin ve 8-OHdG seviyeleri, kontrol grubunda hasta grubuna kıyasla anlamlı derecede daha düşük tespit edildi (P<0.05). Myeloperoksidaz seviyesi, hasta grubunda daha yüksek olmasına rağmen, bu fark istatistiksel olarak anlamlı değildi (P>0.05) Öneri: Bu çalışmada, babesiosisli koyunlarda immünolojik yanıtın gösterge- leri olan neopterin ve oksidatif DNA hasarında önemli bir artış gözlemlendi. Özellikle neopterin, babesiosis'e karşı immünolojik yanıtın önemli bir belirte- ci olarak düşünülebilir.Article Doğu ve Güneydoğu Anadolu Bölgelerinde Çalışan Serbest Veteriner Hekimlerin Mesleki Değerlendirmeleri: Bir Anket Çalışması(2008) Özkan, Cumali; Altuğ, Nuri; Yuksek, Nazmi; Küçük, MürselDoğu ve güneydoğu Anadolu bölgesinde il ve ilçelerde (Van, Hakkari, Ağrı, Iğdır, Kars, Bitlis, Muş, Diyarbakır, Batman ve Şırnak) serbest çalışan 42 veteriner hekim (2 bayan, 40 erkek) çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Bu çalışmada; kişisel bilgiler, tarım il/ilçe müdürlüğü, Veteriner Hekimler Odası, ilaç firmaları, yetiştiricilerle ilişkiler, bilimsel gelişmeler ve hastalık dağılımları ile ilgili sorular yöneltildi. Bu sorulara verilen cevaplar değerlendirildiğinde, mesleğin aktif olarak 15-25 yıl yapılabileceği, kamuda iş olanağı olursa bu işi bırakabilecek hekimlerin olduğu, aylık ortalama gelir seviyelerinin 1000-4000 TL olduğu, ayrıca serbest klinik açmak için uzmanlığın gerekli olduğu ve bölgede çalışan çok sayıda ampirik bulunduğu bildirildi. Veteriner Hekimler Odalarının bölgedeki hekimlere katkılarının az ve ilişkilerinin zayıf olduğu, ilaç firmaları-hekim ilişkilerinin daha iyi olduğu ve mümessillerle fazla sorun yaşamadıkları, hayvan yetiştiricileriyle ise özellikle maddi konularda sorun yaşadıkları ifade edildi. Ayrıca bölgede hayvancılık yapan kişilerin hayvan yetiştiriciliği ve beslenmesi ile ilgili olarak ciddi eğitilmeleri gerektiği, fakülteden branşlaşarak mezun olmanın daha iyi olabileceği ve fakültede okutulan dersler içerisinde özellikle iç hastalıkları konularının pratikte daha yararlı olduğu belirtildi. Sonuç olarak, elde edilen verilerin ilgili kurum ve kuruluşlarca değerlendirilmesinin mesleki gelişime yararı olacağı kanısına varıldı.Article Dose Dependent Effectiveness of Topical Selamectin on Puppies With Ascaridiosis(2006) Göz, Yaşar; Özkan, Cumali; Altuğ, Nuri; Kaya, Abdullah; Yuksek, Nazmi; Ağaoğlu, Tevfik ZahidBu çalısmada, askaridiozisli yavru köpeklerde selamektin’in farklı dozlarda topikal uygulamasının etkinligi arastırıldı. Çalısma 40-60 günlük yaslarda 12 yavru kopek üzerinde yapıldı. Hayvanlar iki esit gruba bölündü. Birinci grup köpeklere (grup I) 6 mg/kg/CA dozunda, diger gruba (grup II) ise 12 mg/kg/CA dozunda topikal selamektin uygulandı. Askarit yumurtaları Mc Master teknigi ile tedavi öncesi (0. gün) ve tedavi sonrası (7. ve 14. gün) sayıldı. Klinik, hematolojik ve biyokimyasal bulgular 0., 7. ve 14 günlerde incelendi. Tedavi öncesiyle karsılastırıldıgında grup II’deki yavru köpeklerde 14. günde eritrosit sayıları (p<0.05) ve her iki grupta hematokrit deger (p<0.01) önemli derecede arttı. Total lökosit sayıları II. grupta tedavi öncesine göre 7.gün (p<0.05) ve 14. günlerde (p<0.01) azaldı. Formül lökosit incelendiginde, her iki grupta tedavi sonrası 14. günde eozinofil oranlarında önemli bir azalma (p<0.01) belirlendi. Total protein konsantrasyonları her iki grupta tedavinin 7. (p<0.05) ve 14. (p<0.01) günlerinde arttı. Fakat, albumin ve globulin konsantrasyonları sadece II. grupta tedavinin 14. gününde arttı (p<0.05). Gram dıskıdaki yumurta sayısı tedaviden sonra her iki grupta azaldı. Fakat II.grupta daha çok belirgindi. Sonuç olarak; klinik, hematolojik ve biyokimyasal bulgular ile dıskıdaki yumurta sayısı degerlendirildiginde, 12 mg/kg selamektinle tedavi edilen grubun (grup II) tedaviye daha kısa sürede cevap verdigi belirlendi.Article Effeciency of Various Supportive Treatments as a Cure for Anaemia in Cattle With Theileriosis(Chulalongkorn Univ, 2014) Altug, Nun; Yuksek, Nazmi; Keles, Ihsan; Ozkan, Cumali; Yoruk, Ibrahim Hakki; Arslan, SezaiThe purpose of this study was to investigate the efficiency of various supportive treatments on the restoration of anaemia in theileriosis. A total of 20 cattle infected with theileriosis received intramuscularly a single dose of buparvaquone (2.5 mg/kg(-1) bw) and were divided into 4 equal groups according to the different therapy options: whereas no supportive treatment was applied in group 1, administrations of vitamin B complex, antioxidant vitamins (A, D, E and C), minerals and trace elements were performed in groups 2, 3 and 4, respectively. Haematological parameters, serum concentrations of antioxidant vitamins, minerals and trace elements as well as serum glutathion peroxidase (GSH-Px) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities were determined before treatment and 7 days after in infected animals and compared to control values from 10 healthy cattle. In the theileriosis affected cattle, remarkable decreases in haematocrit values, haemoglobinaemia and platelet counts were associated to decreased serum alpha- / gamma-tocopherol, vitamin C, vitamin B-12, Ca, Mg, Zn, Na, GSH-Px and SOD levels and to increased sideraemia. The iron concentrations remained elevated and some antioxidants (alpha- / gamma-tocopherol and vitamin C concentrations and GSH-Px and SOD activities) decreased in all treated cattle. Haematocrit values, haemoglobinaemia and vitamin B-12 concentrations also remained depressed but maximal increases were recorded in cattle receiving vitamins B as supportive therapy (group 2). In parallel, platelet numeration was significantly restored in all groups, but specifically in group 2. On the other hand, the maximal increases in alpha-tocopherol and Zn concentrations recorded in groups 3 and 4, respectively, were not associated with cure of anaemia. These results show that the most efficient supportive therapy in the cure of anaemia during theileriosis was vitamin B administration.Article Effect of Meloxicam and Flunixin Meglumine on Some Kidney Parameters in Geriatric Male Rats(Univ Zulia, Facultad Ciencias veterinarias, 2024) Komuroglu, Ahmet Ufuk; Basbugan, Yildiray; Yuksek, Nazmi; Altug, Nuri; Ozdek, Ugur; Dede, SemihaAdvanced age, called geriatrics, negatively affects the aging- related physiological changes on bodysystems. non-steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) used in geriatric pets or humans have negative effects on the kidneys. For this purpose, , the effects of Meloxicam and Flunixin Meglumine, which are NSAIDs frequently used in Veterinary Medicine, on the liver and kidney structure and function in geriatric male rats were evaluated. Twenty-four male geriatric rats (30-36 month old) and twenty-four 3-month-old young male Wistar albino rats were used in the study. Six groups were created, with eight rats in each group: young control (YC), young Meloxicam (YM), young Flunixin Meglubine (YFM), geriatric control (GC), geriatric meloxicam (GM), geriatric Flunixin Meglubine (GFM). Control groups (YC and GC) received an intraperitoneal injection of saline using the same volume as in the othergroups. Meloxicam was administered at 5.8 mgkg-1to-1 to the YM and GM groups, and Flunixin Meglumine at 2.5 mgkg-1-1 intraperitoneally to the YFM and GFM groups once a day for 5 days. Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin (NGAL), Cystatin C (Cyc-c), Kidney Injury Molecule-1 (KIM-1), Interleukin-18 (IL-18), Urea, Creatinine (Crea), Albumin (Alb), and Total Protein (TP) levels, were determined in sera and urine samples. Therefore, this study was aimed todetermine the effect of adding probiotics on Total Antioxidant (TAS) and Total Oxidant (TOS) levels inroutine treatment of calf diarrhea.Material-Method: The material of the study consisted of 12 calves, routine treatment (Group 1, n=6 calves)and probiotic group. (Group 2; n=6 calves).Results: TAS values increased statistically after treatment (P <0.05) in group 2 compared to pretreatment.Comparison of the groups after treatment revealed that TAS significantly increased (P <0.05) in group 2.While there was no statistical difference in TOS values between the groups a statistically significant increase(P <0.05) was detected after treatment compared to pretreatment.Conclusion: It was concluded that adding probiotics may be useful in addition to routine treatment innewborn calf diarrhea.Article The Effect of Transport Stress on Erythrocyte Glutathione Peroxidase Activity, Plasma Concentrations of Lipid Peroxidation and Some Trace Element Levels in Beef Cattle(Medwell online, 2009) Sahin, Tekin; Gurgoze, Sema Yaralioglu; Camkerten, Ilker; Yuksek, NazmiThis study was performed to investigate, the effect of transport on erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase activity, plasma lipid peroxidations concentrations and some mineral substances levels in feedlot beef cattle. The study material consisted of male beef cattle (n = 30; 1-2 years old), transported from Adana to Sanliurfa. Blood samples were taken before and after transport. Decrease in erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase activity (from 12.70 +/- 2.0-9.67 +/- 1.1 IU g(-1) Hb) and increase in plasma lipid peroxidations concentrations (from 1.627 +/- 0.14-2.196 +/- 0.26 nmol mL(-1)) were found in cattle exposed to transport stress. These differences were not statistically different. In addition; transport stress caused significant (p<0.01) decreases in the levels of zinc (from 2.034 +/- 0.15-1.503 +/- 0.05 mu g mL(-1) cupper(from 1.608 +/- 0.095-1.330 +/- 0.072 mu g mL(-1)) and increase in the levels of iron (from 1.60 +/- 0.136-2.05 +/- 0.125 mu g mL(-1)). Transport stress did not affect Magnesium levels.Article Evaluation of the Levels of Homocysteine, Troponin I, and Nitric Oxide in Lambs With Subclinical White Muscle Disease(Kafkas Univ, veteriner Fakultesi dergisi, 2011) Kozat, Suleyman; Altug, Nuri; Yuksek, Nazmi; Ozkan, CumaliWhite muscle disease (WMD) or Nutritional myodegeneration disease (NMD) is a degenerative disease of the cardiac and skeletal muscles. The level of serum activity of Plasma homocysteine (Hcy), cardiac troponin I (cTn I), Nitric oxide (NO) were investigated in lambs with subclinical NMD in this study. Ten healthy lambs and twenty lambs with subclinical NMD were used in this study. The blood samples were firstly taken at the onset of the disease and then 3 and 10 days after treatment in NMD, and taken once control group. The values of serum activity of creatin kinase (CK), aspartate aminotranferase (AST), alanine aminotranferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were measured with autoanalyzer. Plasma concentration of Hcy, serum cTn I, and levels of NO were determined with ELISA method and value of activity erythrocyte glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) was measured with spectrophotometer. Before treatment, values of plasma Hcy, serum NO, cTn I, AST, ALT, ALP, CK, and LDH in lambs with NMD were higher than those of healthy ones (P<0.001), while GSH-Px activity of lambs with NMD are lower than those of healthy (P<0.001). After ten days of treatment, there were no significant differences between treated lambs with NMD and healthy lambs. Nutritional myodegeneration in lambs is associated with increased levels of Hcy, cTn I, and NO. Increased levels of Hcy, cTn I, and NO may be a result of selenium deficiency causing myocardial disorder in NMD lambs.Article Frequency of Coccidia Species in Goats in Van Province of Turkey(2006) Göz, Yaşar; Değer, Mustafa Serdar; Yuksek, Nazmi; Aydın, AbdulalimBu çalışma Haziran 2004-Eylül 2004 tarihleri arasında Van yöresi keçilerindeki Eimeria türlerini ve bunların prevalansını saptamak amacıyla yapıldı. Bu amaçla belirtilen tarihler arasında Van hayvan pazarına satış amacıyla getirilen ve yaşları 3 ay ila 1 yıl arasında değişen toplam 106 keçinin rektumlarından yaklaşık 5'er gr dışkı örnekleri alındı. Dışkı örnekleri alınan toplam 106 keçinin 84 (%69.8)'ünde Eimeria türleri saptandı. Eimeria türlerini belirlemek amacıyla Eimeria ookisti saptanan dışkı örnekleri petri kaplarına konularak sporlanmamn sağlanması için üzerlerine %2.5'lik potasyum dikromat (K2O2O7) çözeltisi ilave edildi. Çalışma sonucunda keçilerin E. arloingi (%41.5), E. alijevi (%37.7), E. christensini (%20.7). E. ninakohlyakimovae (%18.9), E. pallida (%9.4), E. apsheronica (%9.4) ve E. hirci (%7.5) olmak üzere toplam 7 Eimeria türüyle infekte oldukları saptandı.Article Genetic Structure and Variation of Van Cats(Springer/plenum Publishers, 2011) Altunok, Vahdettin; Yuksek, Nazmi; Berkman, Ceren C.; Agaoglu, Zahid Tevfik; Togan, InciTo determine the genetic structure and variation of Van cats and some other cats, seven enzyme loci were examined using horizontal starch gel electrophoresis. ME bands were observed for the first time in cats. For the enzyme loci CA (1) , SOD, GPI, and GOT, neither the individual Van cats nor the specimens of other cat species exhibited any variation. These enzymes presented identical bands, all of which were homozygous. With respect to the PGD, ME, and ESD loci, however, genetic variation was observed in all of the cats. Hence, three of the seven gene-enzyme systems (43%) were polymorphic with two alleles, contributing to an estimate of average heterozygosity of 0.33-0.49 for the Van cats. PGD was the most discriminatory among the three polymorphic loci. The phylogenetic tree indicated that the Van, Persian, Turkish Angora, and Turkish Tekir cats are distinct from Siamese and Bombay cats.
