Difficulties Encountered in Social Studies Course Before and During the Pandemic According To Teacher Opinions

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı öğretmen görüşlerine göre pandemi öncesi ve pandemi süresince sosyal bilgiler öğretiminde karşılaşılan güçlükleri tespit etmek ve çözüm önerileri sunmaktır. Sosyal Bilgiler öğretiminde karşılaşılan problemleri tespit etmek adına Bitlis ili ve ilçeleri ortaokullarında görev yapan sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerinden 92 öğretmene anket formu uygulanmış, 37 öğretmen ile de yüz yüze görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmayı daha kapsamlı bir hale getirmek adına anket formu yanında bir de görüşme formu geliştirilmiştir. Anket formu; kişisel bilgiler ve sosyal bilgiler öğretiminde karşılaşılan problemlerin kaynağı ile uzaktan eğitimde karşılaşılan problemlerin kaynağını belirlemek adına iki tablodan oluşmaktadır. Ayrıca öğretmenlerin eklemek istediklerine yönelik kısımları da içermektedir. Geliştirilen görüşme formu ise; 10 soruluk bir bölümden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmada nicel analiz ve nitel analiz yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Nicel analiz yöntemleri; verilerin istatistiksel olarak yorumlanmasına olanak verirken, nitel analiz yöntemleri ise elde edilen verilerin derinlemesine incelenmesini sağlar. Anket formundan elde edilen istatistiki veriler frekans, yüzde ve aritmetik ortalama kullanılarak SPSS paket programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Görüşme formundan elde edilen veriler ise nitel analiz teknikleri kullanılarak çözümlenmiştir. Araştırma verileri kişisel bilgi formu ve öğretmenlerle yapılan görüşmeler sonucunda kullanılan görüşme formları ve öğretmenlere uygulanmış anket formları ile toplanmış, toplanan veriler bulgular kısmında değerlendirmeye alınıp bir sonuca varılmıştır. Araştırma sonucuna göre, sosyal bilgiler öğretiminde öğretmenlerin, birçok sorunla karşılaştığı görülmüştür. Bu sorunlar; ders saatinin az olması, müfredatın yetişmemesi, kat sayı problemi, sosyal bilgiler dersine olumsuz bakış açısı, öğrencilerin derse ilgisizliği, ders kitaplarının içerik açısından yeterli olmaması şeklinde sıralanabilir. Ayrıca, anket ve görüşmeler sonucunda pandemi sürecinde gerçekleştirilen uzaktan eğitimde karşılaşılan güçlüklerde tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Buna göre: alt yapı problemleri, internetten kaynaklanan problemler, uzaktan eğitimde kullanılan uygulamalardan (EBA, ZOOM) kaynaklanan problemler, öğrenci ve öğretmenin aynı ortamda olmamasından kaynaklanan problemler gibi güçlükler tespit edilmiştir. In order to determine the problems encountered in Social Studies teaching, a questionnaire form was applied to 92 teachers from social studies teachers working in secondary schools of Bitlis province and districts, and face-to-face interviews were conducted with 37 teachers. In order to make the research more comprehensive, an interview form has been developed in addition to the survey form. Survey form; It consists of two tables in order to determine the source of the problems encountered in the teaching of personal information and social studies and the source of the problems encountered in distance education. It also includes sections for what teachers want to add. The developed interview form is; It consists of a section of 10 questions. Quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis methods were used in the study. Quantitative analysis methods; While allowing statistical interpretation of the data, qualitative analysis methods provide an in-depth examination of the obtained data. The statistical data obtained from the questionnaire were analyzed with SPSS package program by using frequency, percentage and arithmetic average. The data obtained from the interview form were analyzed by using qualitative analysis techniques. The research data were collected with the personal information form and interview forms used as a result of the interviews with the teachers and the questionnaire forms applied to the teachers, and the collected data were evaluated in the findings section and a conclusion was reached. According to the results of the research, it was seen that teachers faced many problems in social studies teaching. These problems are; low course hours, non-catching up of the curriculum, coefficient problem, negative view of social studies course, students' indifference to the course, textbooks are not sufficient in terms of content. In addition, as a result of surveys and interviews, it was tried to identify the difficulties encountered in distance education during the pandemic process. Accordingly: infrastructure problems, problems arising from the internet, problems arising from applications used in distance education (EBA, ZOOM), problems arising from the absence of students and teachers in the same environment have been identified.
