Abstract

Jane Eyre, yaşayan tek akrabası olan amcası Bay Reed'in yanında yaşayan küçük bir kızdır. Amcası öldükten sonra ona amcasının eşi Bayan Reed bakar. Üç kuzeni ve yengesiyle yaşamaya devam eder. Ancak yengesi çocuklarına gösterdiği şefkati, merhameti Jane'e hiçbir zaman göstermez. Bu durum Jane'in çok zoruna gider ama elinden hiçbir şey gelmez; çünkü gidecek başka yeri yoktur. Daha sonra yatılı bir okula gönderilen Jane, burada birkaç yıl okuduktan sonra aynı okulda iki yıl öğretmenlik yapar. İki yıllık görevinden sonra gazete ilanlarından iş bulmaya çalışır. Yağmurlu bir gecede St John adında bir papazın ve kız kardeşlerinin konuğu olur- ki bunların romanın sonuna doğru Jane'in kuzenleri olduğu görülecektir. Jane, burada bir müddet kaldıktan sonra o köyün çocuklarına ders vermeye başlar. St John ona aşık olur ve Jane'e misyonerlik faaliyetlerinde kendisine yardım etmesi için evlilik teklif eder. After her uncle?s death, Mrs Reed takes care of her. She goes on to live with her three cousens. But Mrs Reed does not behaive her as she behavies to her children. Jane hates her but there is not any choice infront of her. Then, Jane goes to a dormitory. After a while she starts teaching at Lowood. After two years in this school she finds another job. She becomes a governess at Thornfield. It is Mr Rochester?s house. Mr Rochester is the man who Jane will fall in love in the future. After a long time they decide to marry. But there is a secter handicup. Rochester is already married and bigamy is forbiden. Everybody in the ceremony learn this secret and Rocheser takes them to the attic where he hides Bertha Mason. Jane, leaves Thornfield after she learns this. One day she runs away from Thornfield. No one sees her. Although she is upset, Jane doesn?t hate Rochester, she loves him. Jane is in a very hard condition. Because she wastes her money. In a rainy night, Jane comes to St John and his sisters? house- we will see that they are Jane?s cousens. After a while Jane starts to teach that village children. St John falls in love with Jane and he wants her to marry with him and help him in missionary deeds. Jane rejects this offer because she still loves Rochester. One day Jane learns that she has an uncle at Madeira and her uncle has died. Her uncle has inherited all his wealth to Jane. She leaves some of this heritage to her cousens and goes to Thornfield. When she comes there she sees that every where has burned. Bertha sets fire to Thornfield. Rochester loses his eyes and one of his arms when he tries to rescue Bertha. Jane is keen on her freedom. After this fire she decides to marry with Rochester. Because she is a rich and free woman anymore and Rochester needs her help. At the end of the novel contrary to customs, she says `Reader I married him?. Novel ends with a happy ending.
