Geological and Geotechnical Invastigation of the Settlement Areas of Tatvan (Bitlis)
Abstract
Reputation of our country with geological position is highly risky area. As a result of the Arabian and Eurasian plate?s mobility, the Anatolian plate has mobility. This plate tectonic generates earthquakes in our country. Destructive features of the earthquake casualties in the cause, especially to those which also have damage to the country's economy. In the context of this thesis; the eligibility status for settlement of Tatvan (Bitlis) campus in terms of the geological and geotechnical were investigated by laboratory, field and office work with ground drilling. The rocks belong of Bitlis Missive?s, volcanic of the Nemrut Mountain and alluvium units extended in the study area. As a result of the siev analysis on the soil samples taken from the borehole drilling, a large part of the settlement areas of Tatvan fall into silty sand (70% SM) class. In addition resault of the analysis indicate that, silty sand units have a transportation problems and liquefaction on the shores of Lake Van. As a result of assessments, below the 1655 m level in these areas is not recommended to construction. According to 08.06.1995 date and 6925 decision of the Council of Ministers, the construction permitted below the 1655 m elevation around the Lake VanKey words: Disasters, Urbanization, Earthquake, Geotechnical, Tatvan (Bitlis).
