Article Angiokeratomatous Papilloma Associated With Papillomavirus in a Calf(Amer Coll vet Pathologist, 2003) Gulbahar, MY; Yuksel, H; Aslan, LA female 8-month-old Simmental calf was presented with a history of a gradually enlarging mass in the ventral abdominal skin since 4 months of age. The mass was well circumscribed, lightly pigmented, and rough surfaced with many fine fissures and was attached to the skin by a relatively broad pedicle. On cut section, there was a border between the reddish-black stroma and overlying epithelium, including hemorrhagic foci of variable sizes. Histologically, the tumor was papillomatous with angiokeratomatous features and irregular hyperplasia with epidermal rete ridges and dilated vascular channels filled with blood in the superficial dermis. In the epidermis, orthokeratotic hyperkeratosis, variably sized keratohyalin granules, and many koilocytes, some of which had papillomavirus (PV) genus-specific structural antigen-positive nuclei, were also observed. Cells lining the dilated vascular spaces were positive for vimentin and alpha-smooth muscle actin but negative for factor VIII-related antigen, desmin, and PV. Macroscopically, the mass was 3 x 1.5 x 0.5 cm in size and 5.35 g in weight; its shape was gray-reddish and it was localized on the right lower eyelid. Microscopically, the mass was composed of lobules of various sizes separated with a septum, which included well-differentiated sebaceous cells and apocrine secretory epithelium, with no an association of both gland types.Article Effect of Propofol Anaesthesia in Calves(indian veterinary Journal, 2005) Genccelep, M; Aslan, L; Sahin, A; Sindak, NArticle The Effects of Sildenafil Citrate (Viagra) in the Early Phase of Healing Process in Open Wounds in Dogs(Vysoka Skola veterinarni Farmaceuticka, 2003) Tas, A; Atasoy, N; Özbek, H; Aslan, L; Yüksel, H; Ceylan, E; Dagoglu, GIn vivo (n = 16) and in vitro (n = 16) experiments were conducted in dogs to describe the effects of sildenafil citrate (viagra) on histopathological changes during the healing process with respect to angiogenesis and compare vasodilatative effects of sildenafil citrate, acetylcholine and sodium nitroprusside. General anaesthesia was performed with 0.2% ketamine HCl by intravenous drip after premedication with xylazine (5 mg.kg(-1)) and atropine sulphate (0.05 mg.kg(-1)). Round open wounds were created in all skin layers on anterior brachial region in all animals. On days 1, 3, 5 and 7 following the operation sildenafil citrate (25 mg) (n = 8) and saline (n = 8) were orally administered. Wound tissues were dissected for histological observation on days 3, 6, and 9. Animals receiving sildenafil citrate had greater granulosa tissue more apparent capillary network and greather fibroblast proliferation than control group on day 6. Vasorelaxant effects of sildenafil citrate, acetylcholine and sodium nitroprusside on a. brachialis were investigated in vitro. In this study, relative vasorelaxant effects of sildenafil citrate, acetylcholine and sodium nitroprusside were 4.91, 5.75 and 6.70, respectively. Results of this study suggest that sildenafil citrate does enhance the healing process by stimulating angiogenesis.Article Mixed Apocrine Sweat Gland Tumor of the Tail in a Cow(Amer Coll vet Pathologist, 2002) Gulbahar, MY; Alkan, I; Aslan, L; Golen, IA 4-year-old native-breed cow had a mass with wide areas of ulceration and hemorrhage at the base of the tail at the same level as the vulva. The tumor was 19 X 13 X 11 cm, appeared red-brown, and was firm to hard, with gritty areas apparent on cut surface. Histologically, the tumor mass was composed of multilayered epithelial cells forming glandular structures with occasional apical blebs and rare solidly packed cells in nests. The stroma included fibrous connective tissue, scattered or periglandular sheets of spindle-shaped cells resembling myoepithelium, several cartilaginous formations, and numerous irregular islands of mineralized osteoid, well-formed bone trabeculae lined by osteoblasts, and many osteoclast-like multinucleated giant cells among or near the neoplastic epithelium. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic epithelium was positive for pan-cytokeratin (AE1/AE2) and cytokeratin 19 but was negative for cytokeratin 18. Spindle-shaped cells were stained with alpha smooth muscle actin (alphaSMA) and to a lesser extent vimentin antibodies. The cells of osteogenic lineage and spindle cells closely associated with the osteoid showed strong immunostaining for vimentin but not for alphaSMA. Immunostaining for neuron-specific enolase and S 100 protein was not observed in any component of the tumor mass. These findings sugguested that the origin of bone formation was undifferentiated mesenchymal cells with osteogenic potential.Article Stomach Impaction in Ostriches (Struthio Camelus)(Amer Assoc Avian Pathologists, 2002) Yüksek, N; Agaoglu, Z; Kaya, A; Aslan, L; Erdogan, HM; Akgul, YThis study involved 14 ostriches of both sexes between 3 and 24 mo of age. Some hematologic and biochemical parameters were studied in animals with stomach impaction. Clinical examination of the birds revealed anorexia, emaciation, decreased defecation, listlessness, separation from the flock, and recumbence. The total number of leukocytes (10.4 x 10(3) mm(3)), the concentrations of serum glucose (166 mg/dl), and total protein (2.4 g/dl) decreased; serum creatine phosphokinase (1240 U/L) and alkaline phosphatase (598 U/L) increased; whereas no changes were found in the concentrations of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, and copper. Medical treatment was initiated in 13 animals; six of them recovered and seven birds died. Necropsy revealed edema, erosions, and hemorrhagic ulcers in the stomach of the dead birds. Foreign bodies such as sand; stone; pieces of wood, glass, and plastic; and metallic objects were encountered in the stomach at the necropsy. In one bird, metallic foreign body was diagnosed and the bird was referred to surgery. Under stress factors, ostriches tend to eat foreign material; therefore, adequate housing, nutrition, and care are crucial in prevention of stomach impaction.Article Use of Fibrin Glue in Dog Kidney Model(indian veterinary Journal, 2004) Bakir, B; Odabas, O; Genccelep, M; Kosem, M; Aslan, LIt is difficult to-obtain adequate haemostasis in the presence of friable tissues and coagulopathy as any attempts to control bleeding by the placement of additional sutures may further aggravate the situation. Therefore, to control bleeding, topical haemostatic agents are generally used. In this study, the effect of fibrin glue on controlling bleeding during partial nephrectomy and wound healing has been investigated.
