Article The Assessment of Effects of Atracurium and Mivacurium Using Tof Guard Device in Dogs(indian veterinary Journal, 2003) Tas, A; Aslan, L; Atasoy, N; Ceylan, E; Altug, ME; Ozbek, HArticle Changes in Certain Biochemical Parameters of Arterial Blood and Cerebrospinal Liquor of Sheep Anaesthetised by Isoflurane and Halothane(Mezogazda Kiado Kft, 2004) Mercan, N; Atasoy, N; Gençcelep, M; Tas, AThe authors performed biochemical examinations of twenty sheep's arterial blood and cerebrospinal liquor (CSL) to establish the changes caused by inhalation anaesthetics (halothane and isoflurane). Ten animals were anaesthetised by isoflurane (1.5 v/v%) and ten of them by halothane (1 v/v%). Blood samples were taken from a. femoralis and the CSL samples by lumbosacral punction before the anaesthesia (BA), during anaesthesia (DA) and after anaesthesia (AA). From the blood samples pH, pCO(2), pO(2) SAT and HCO3 ion and from the CSL glucose, Na, K and Cl ion-concentration were measured. There were no significant changes (p>0.05) during isoflurane narcosis except CSL glucose content, which was significant (p<0.05). During halothane narcosis pCO(2) and pO(2) DA (p<0.01), HCO3 ion DA (p<0.001), and AA (p<0.05) changed significantly. The results show that sheep tolerate isoflurane better than halothane, because isoflurane did not have unfavourable effects on blood and CSL parameters.Article The Comparison of Effects of Atracurium and Mivacurium With Tof Guard Device in Cats(indian veterinary Journal, 2003) Tas, T; Genccelep, M; Atasoy, N; Ozbek, H; Ceylan, EArticle Considerations for Gastrointestinal Cannulation (Rumen, Duodenum and Ileum) in Sheep With a Ruminal, a Simple T-Type and a Modified T-Type Cannula(M H Schaper Gmbh Co Kg, 2003) Atasoy, N; Tas, AThe aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of simultaneous application of three cannulations and to test the effectivness of a modified T-type cannula compared to simple T-type cannula. A ruminal, a simple T-type and a modified T-type duodenal and an ilial cannula were used in sheep. No complication was encountered in ruminal cannulation. Although no grafts were used, leakage of digesta was not seen for at least five months in T-type cannula and seven months in modified T-type cannula after surgery. Fibrous tissue grew between the serosa of the intestine and the peritoneum. No erosion of the tissue between intestine and body wall was observed after slaughter. Especially ilial digesta was easily obtained from modified T-type cannula.Editorial Ecg of a Turkish Van Cat With Suspected Hypertrophy and Ventricular Arrythmias(Australian Small Animal veterinary Association, 2003) Cinar, A; Kilcap, D; Atasoy, NArticle The Effects of Inhalation Anaesthetics (Halothane and Isoflurane) on Certain Clinical and Haematological Parameters of Sheep(Elsevier Science Bv, 2004) Gençcelep, M; Atasoy, N; Tas, AIn the study, 16 Morkaraman ewes were anaesthetised with 1% halothane (n = 8) and with 1.5% isoflurane (n = 8). Significant differences in respiration rate (P < 0.05) and rectal temperature (P < 0.01) during anaesthesia and total number of WBC (P < 0.05) after anaesthesia for the two treatment groups were recorded. Haematological parameters decreased compared to the values recorded before anaesthesia in both groups. However, the values (WBC, RBC, platelet counts, haemoglobin counts, PCV) were within the physiological limits. All values obtained 24 h following anaesthesia were similar to the values obtained before anaesthesia. Although the chirurgical anaesthesia was conducted with low levels of halothane, the animals recovered earlier from isoflurane than halothane anaesthesia. Isoflurane can be recommended in ewes as it caused a small alteration in the haemotological parameters during anaesthesia and recorded a shorter recovery time. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. A total of 20 sheep were used as material. Ten of them were anaesthetized with halothane (1%) and the other 10 with isoflurane (1.5%). Blood samples were taken from v. jugularis before (BA), during (DA) and after anaesthesia (AA). Sera were collected and analysed for glucose, BUN, creatinine, total bilirubin, AST, ALT, amylase, LDH, CK, CK-MB, ALP, Ca, Na, K and Cl. The effects of the anaesthetics on the parameters were evaluated statistically. These parameters did not change significantly in isoflurane anaesthesia (p>0.05), but in halothane anaesthesia glucose (DA) (p<0.05), creatinine (AA) (p<0.01) and AST (AA) (p<0.05) levels changed significantly. It was concluded that isoflurane can be tolerated better than halothane by sheep and its application did not have destructive effects on the metabolism of pancreas, kidney, liver and muscle.Article The Effects of Sildenafil Citrate (Viagra) in the Early Phase of Healing Process in Open Wounds in Dogs(Vysoka Skola veterinarni Farmaceuticka, 2003) Tas, A; Atasoy, N; Özbek, H; Aslan, L; Yüksel, H; Ceylan, E; Dagoglu, GIn vivo (n = 16) and in vitro (n = 16) experiments were conducted in dogs to describe the effects of sildenafil citrate (viagra) on histopathological changes during the healing process with respect to angiogenesis and compare vasodilatative effects of sildenafil citrate, acetylcholine and sodium nitroprusside. General anaesthesia was performed with 0.2% ketamine HCl by intravenous drip after premedication with xylazine (5 mg.kg(-1)) and atropine sulphate (0.05 mg.kg(-1)). Round open wounds were created in all skin layers on anterior brachial region in all animals. On days 1, 3, 5 and 7 following the operation sildenafil citrate (25 mg) (n = 8) and saline (n = 8) were orally administered. Wound tissues were dissected for histological observation on days 3, 6, and 9. Animals receiving sildenafil citrate had greater granulosa tissue more apparent capillary network and greather fibroblast proliferation than control group on day 6. Vasorelaxant effects of sildenafil citrate, acetylcholine and sodium nitroprusside on a. brachialis were investigated in vitro. In this study, relative vasorelaxant effects of sildenafil citrate, acetylcholine and sodium nitroprusside were 4.91, 5.75 and 6.70, respectively. Results of this study suggest that sildenafil citrate does enhance the healing process by stimulating angiogenesis.Article Levels of Some Vitamins, Trace Elements and Electrolytes in Rams With Rumen Acidosis and Laminitis(indian veterinary Journal, 2003) Ceylan, E; Dede, S; Tas, A; Donmez, N; Atasoy, N; Keles, IFeeding lambs with high grain rations (80-95% concentrate) generally increases the incidence of digestive disturbances related with rumen acidosis (Britton and Stock, 1986). Rumen acidosis varies from subacute to acute from, and is associated with various secondary disordes such as laminitis, polioencephalomalacia, rumenitis, and liver abscesses (Brent, 1976; Nocek, 1988). The present study was aimed to investigate the levels of some vitamins, trace elements and electrolytes in rams with laminitis.Article Possible Association Between Chronic Laminitis and Some Biochemical Parameters in Dairy(Australian veterinary Assn, 2004) Belge, F; Bildik, A; Belge, A; Kiliçalp, D; Atasoy, NArticle Serum Trace Elements Status of Rabbits Supplemented With Nigella Sativa, Vitamins C and E, and Selenium Against Damage by N-Methyl(Humana Press inc, 2002) Gündüz, H; Dede, S; Agaoglu, ZT; Atasoy, N; Mert, NIn this study, we investigated the effects of Nigella sativa, vitamins C and E, and selenium on the levels of trace elements in the serum of N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG)-injected rabbits. The rabbits were separated into one control and three experimental groups, each consisting of eight rabbits. MNNG was administered to all rabbits at a dose of 20 mg/kg. Group A received a suspension of N. sativa, group B received a combination of vitamins C and E and selenium, and group C received MNNG without any additional treatment. Group D did not receive any treatment and acted as control. The concentrations of serum zinc, copper, and iron were determined for groups A, B, C, and D. The zinc levels were 155.3 +/- 25.8, 304.7 +/- 14.22, 117.2 +/- 27.9, and 87.0 +/- 8 mu/dL for groups A-D, respectively; copper was measured at 234.8 +/- 31.9, 214.3 +/- 14.2, 196.5 +/- 19.3, and 359.2 +/- 19.9 mu/dL and iron levels were 276.3 +/- 10.71, 260.8 +/- 7.15, 211.2 +/- 13.47, and 223.4 +/- 9.5 mu/dL, in the stated group order. There were statistically significant differences between groups (p < 0.05).
