Article Anti-Alzheimer, Antiglaucoma, and Antidiabetic Activities of Sainfoin (Onobrychis Buhseana Boiss.)(Wiley-v C H verlag Gmbh, 2025) Jafarova, Shahla; Aydin, Tuba; Isayev, Javanshir; Saglamtas, Ruya; Ozgokce, Fevzi; Kazaz, Cavit; Cakir, AhmetOnobrychis Adans. species, known as 'sainfoin,' are commercially valuable plants cultivated to produce high-protein animal feed. In this study, the ethanol extract of Onobrychis buhseana Boiss., which is widely distributed in Azerbaijan, was subjected to silica gel column and thin-layer chromatography for the first time, leading to the isolation of a new natural hydroquinone oligomer, named buhseanol (1), along with two known compounds, beta-arbutin (2) and an inositol derivative (3). The chemical structure of buhseanol (1) was characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR), carbon-13 NMR, Attached Proton Test NMR, and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Buhseanol (1), beta-arbutin (2), and the ethanol extract were evaluated for their anti-Alzheimer's, anti-glaucoma, and anti-diabetic effects, with both the extract and buhseanol (1) potentially showing these activities. The inositol derivative (3) did not exhibit any of these activities.Article The Effects of Overhang Amalgam Restorations on Levels of Cytokines, Gingival Crevicular Fluid Volume and Some Periodontal Parameters(Mosher & Linder, inc, 2016) Ilday, Nurcan Ozakar; Celik, Neslihan; Dilsiz, Alparslan; Alp, Hamit Hakan; Aydin, Tuba; Seven, Nilgun; Kiziltunc, AhmetPurpose: To evaluate clinical periodontal findings and GCF levels of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), interleukin 6 (IL-6) and interleukin 8 (IL-8) in patients with overhang amalgam restorations before and after overhang restoration removal. Methods: 22 volunteer subjects (age range: 22-42 years old) with 22 overhang Class II amalgam restorations were selected. GCF samples were obtained from adjacent and contralateral teeth for IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-alpha, measurements and analyzed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits. The amalgam overhangs were removed and the readings were repeated at the end of 1 week. Clinical periodontal assessments, including gingival index (GI) and plaque index (PI) were performed at baseline and after 1 week. Data were analyzed using the paired t test and independent sample t-test at a significance level of 0.05. Correlations were investigated using Pearson correlation analysis. Results: A significant reduction in GI and PI was observed after removal of the overhanging restoration on Day 7. (P< 0.05) However, there was no significant difference between IL-6 (P= 0.857), IL-8 (P= 0.579) and TNF-alpha (P= 0.958) levels before and after overhang restoration removal. There were no significant correlations between laboratory findings and clinical parameters.Article The Effects of Silorane Composites on Levels of Cytokines and Periodontal Parameters(Medknow Publications & Media Pvt Ltd, 2013) Ilday, Nurcan Ozakar; Celik, Neslihan; Dilsiz, Alparslan; Alp, Hamit Hakan; Aydin, Tuba; Seven, Nilgun; Kiziltunc, AhmetAims: The purpose of this pilot study was to determine the effects of silorane composites on gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) levels of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), interleukin 6 (IL-6) and IL-8, GCF volume and clinical periodontal parameters in patients with silorane composite restorations before and after restorative treatment. Materials and Methods: A total of 20 systemically healthy non-smokers, 12 female and 8 male (age range: 24-46 years), presenting with 25 instances of primary dentine caries with subgingival margins were selected for this study. Approval was obtained from the university ethics committee and treatment plans were approved by the patients. GCF samples were obtained with periopaper strips from relevant teeth for IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-alpha measurements. Each sample was stored at 80 degrees C and analyzed using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits. Cavities were prepared according to the common principles for adhesive restorations and restored with a silorane adhesive system (Silorane System Adhesive (3M ESPE) and silorane composite (Filtek Silorane, 3M ESPE). Cytokine levels were reassessed 2 weeks after restorative treatment. Data were analyzed using the independent t-test at a significance level of a =0.05. Associations between parameters were analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis. Results: A significant increase in gingival index (GI) and plaque index (PI) were observed after 15 days (P < 0.05). GCF volume, IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-alpha levels exhibited significant differences before and after restorative treatment (P < 0.05). There were strong positive correlations among parameters except for PI/GCF volume and GI/GCF volume. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this investigation, silorane composites may have some negative effects on cytokine levels, clinical parameters and GCF volume.Article Isatis Glauca Aucher Ex Boiss. Glauca (Indigo) Extracts as Enzyme Inhibitors: a Biochemical Study(Wiley-v C H verlag Gmbh, 2025) Nezir, Beyza Sevdenur; Dasdemir, Edanur; Aydin, Tuba; Saglamtas, Ruya; Kaya, Elife; Ozgokce, FevziIsatis glauca Aucher ex Boiss. subsp. glauca is a species of indigo that grows naturally in T & uuml;rkiye. In this study, the in vitro biological activities of I. glauca were evaluated for the first time. The inhibitory effects of I. glauca's methanol, ethanol, dichloromethane/methanol (50:50), acetone, ethyl acetate, dichloromethane, and n-hexane extracts were investigated on the enzymes human carbonic anhydrase I (hCAI), human carbonic anhydrase II (hCAII), acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), and alpha-glycosidase. IC50 values were calculated to determine the inhibitory effect of the extracts. Among the extracts, the ones with the strongest inhibitory activity against hCAI, hCAII, AChE, BChE, and alpha-glucosidase were found to be ethyl acetate extract (IC50: 75.77 mg/mL), methanol extract (IC50: 102.89 mg/mL), n-hexane extract (IC50: 61.11 mg/mL), ethyl acetate extract (IC50: 22.79 mg/mL), and ethyl acetate extract (IC50: 77.12 mg/mL), respectively. The study findings suggest that all extracts of I. glauca may have promising therapeutic properties. In particular, it can be suggested that these extracts have the potential to be used in the treatment of diseases or the alleviation of symptoms. However, additional research and clinical trials are required to determine its efficacy. The isolation of I. glauca phytochemicals should be addressed in future studies.
