Article The Biofilm Production (Slime) and Fluconazole Sensitivity of the Candida Strains Isolated From the Mouth Flora of Newborns and Adults(2005) Güdücüoǧlu, H.; Berktaş, M.; Bozkurt, H.; Aygül, K.; Bayram, Y.; Gülmez, S.; Andiç, S.In this study we planned to investigate the differences of the Candida species in the newborns' and adults' mouth flora, their slime production and antimicrobial susceptibility. They were identified with conventional methods (germ tube production) and carbohydrate fermentation characteristics were evaluated by Api 20 C AUX (bioMerieux-France) kits. Stock solution of fluconazole was used for antibiotic susceptibility test. A total of 18 Candida isolates; 14 C. albicans, 2 C. tropicalis, 1 C. kefyr and1 C. lusitaneae were isolated from newborns and 18 Candida strains consisting of 13 C. albicans, 4 C. tropicalis and 1 C. ciferii were isolated from the adults with decayed teeth. Slime production and fluconazole susceptibility tests were performed on these strains. As a result, 4 of 18 (22%) Candida species from newborns and 2 of 18 (11%) strains from adults teeth were observed to be potent slime producer. None of the Candida strains isolated were resistant to fluconazole.Article Evaluation of Related With Age of Ifn-Gamma Levels of Treated Leprosy Patients and Their Healthy Relatives Compared With a Control Group(2006) Güdücüoglu, H.; Berktaş, M.; Bozkurt, H.; Akdeniz, N.; Kutluay, N.; Yaman, G.; Andiç, S.OBJECTIVE: This study was to search how change with age of IFN-gamma (IFN-gamma) levels of leprosy patients who had received or still undergoing treatment, their healthy close relatives and healthy people. METHOD: From a total of 39 patients, 28 had received leprosy treatment and recovered with some defects [17 Lepromatous Leprosy(LL), 7 Borderline Lepromatous (BL), 3 Borderlien Tuberculoid (BT), 1 Tuberculoid form (TT)] and 11 (9 LL, 2 BL) were undergoing therapy in a hospital at that moment. Close relatives of the patients included 39 people living with treated patients in the same house and the control group consisted of 39 healthy people. Human IFN-gamma kits were used as a solid phase sandwich ELISA method. RESULTS: The IFN-gamma values of treated leprosy patients, therapy receiving patients, relatives group's and control group's were detected as 11-20 pg/mL, 11-18 pg/mL, 12-145 pg/mL and 12-65 pg/mL respectively. CONCLUSION: According to the statistical evaluation of these three groups, IFN-gamma levels of patients were detected lower than other two groups. According to the age, if IFN-gamma levels were compared, it was detected that significant relationship between relatives groups and interferon gamma levels.Article Investigation of Brucella Seroprevalence in Human and Livestocks in Igdır, Turkey(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2016) Bora, G.; Akkoyunlu, Y.; Berköz, M.; Açıkgöz, G.; Berktaş, M.; Altındağ, F.; Bora, A.Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease of worldwide and still remains endemic in some developing countries, especially in Turkey. Milk is the main food product serving as a vector for Brucella. In this study we aimed to investigate the seroprevalence of human and animal brucellosis. The study group consisted of 358 subjects who had high risk occupations of animal breeder and farmer. The test results were interpreted and titers equal or in excess of 1/40 were considered significant. 189 farm animals were incorporated to our research. Among these animals, 104 of them were sheep and goat and 85 of them were cattle. The Brucellosis Milk Ring Test was used to test raw milk samples collected the selected herds in the study area. The seroprevalence of human brucellosis was 6.7%. Seroprevalence of animal brucellosis was found as 22.75% in livestocks. This study is important for being the first study in recent years that demonstrates the Brucella seropositivity rates in Igdır Province. This high seropositivity in our region may depend on the high rates of animal brucellosis; those of which were inadequate under control by veterinary and by vaccination and people who consume the milk by without boiling. © 2016 Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. On sekiz hastanın 14'ünde NMP 22 (+) idi. Bu grupta NMP 22 duyarlılığı %77.7, özgüllüğü %46.4 bulundu. Onsekiz olgunun 15'inde sitoloji (+) idi. Article Parvovirus B19 Igm Seropositivity in Cases With Reumotoid Factor(2007) Kurtoǧlu, M.G.; Ozkurt, H.; Bayram, Y.; Tuncer, O.; Berktaş, M.At the present study, for the purpose of finding out whether to effect the result of existence of Rheumatoid Factor (RF), determining in different level of RF obtained but 100 sera without semptoms was examined in different level by ELISA. Parvovirus B19 IgM antibody positivity was established at the rate of 22 % on the sera of 100 patients between 0-71 years with RF positive patient. With this study, at the investigation of Parvovirus B 19 IgM antibody, the positivity should prevent dependent to RF.Letter The Seroprevalence of Canine Brucellosis in Shepherd Dogs(KAFKAS UNIVERSITY, 2009) Tanritanir, P.; Ceylan, E.; Berktaş, M.Article Using of Nmp 22 Only or Together With the Cytology in the Diagnosis and Follow-Up of Bladder Tumors(2003) Yilmaz, Y.; Aydin, S.; Bayrakli, H.; Uǧraş, S.; Özman, E.; Berktaş, M.Introduction: Nuclear Matrix Protein is a tumor marker using for early diagnosis and follow up of bladder cancer. This study was designed to determine the effectiveness of NMP 22 and cytology for early detection and follow up of bladder cancer. Material and Methods: Sixty-eight patients who were included in this study were divided in three groups. The first group comprised 46 patients with hematuria and lower urinary tract symptoms, who had no previous history of bladder cancer. Seventeen patients were included in the second group who treated by transurethral resection of bladder tumor, partial cystectomy or intracaviter chemotherapy. The third group consisted of 5 patients with bladder tumor previously. They refused any kind of treatment. A reference value of 15 U/ml was utilized for NMP 22 in urine. A positive outcome was a tumor seen in cystoscopic examination, which was later histopathologically confirmed as malignant. A negative outcome was tumor free cystoscopy, or benign histopathology of the suspected biopsy specimens. Urine cytology results were considered "malign" (severe dysplasia, malign and transitional cell carcinoma) and "benign" (metaplasia, inflamatory cells, dysplasia ). Results: Eighteen patients of the first group had bladder cancer, whereas NMP 22 was (+) in 29 patients in this group. However, NMP was (+) in 14 of the 18 patients with bladder tumor. The sensitivity and specificity of NMP 22 in group 1 were 77.7% and 46.6%, and that of cytology were 83.3% and 89.2% respectively. When all of the patients were evaluated together, the sensitivity and specificity of NMP 22 were 80.7% and 64.2%, and that of cytology were 88.4% and 90.4% respectively. Conclusion: In conclusion, this study indicates that NMP 22 reduces the necessity of cystoscopy, and it can be used as a screening test in combination with cytology.
