Article Arsenic Residues in Grey Mullets Caught in Lake Van(Scientific Technical Research Council Turkey, 1999) Bilgili, A; Yarsan, E; Türel, Iin this study, pollution caused by arsenic residues in grey mullets (Chalcarburnus tarichii, Pallas 1811) living in Van lake were investigated. A Total 120 samples, from the four seasons from 01.01.1994 to 01.01.1995 were collected. The organic parts of the muscles were washed with a mixture of magnesium oxide and magnesium nitrate according to the dry ash method and arsenic residues were measured by silver diethyl dithyocarbamate in a spectrophotometer. By analyzing the 120 fish samples, arsenic residues were calculated to be 0.009 - 0.347 ppm (average 0.051+/-0.046). In light of these results as the arsenic residues in grey mullets were below the level of 10 ppm, the accepted limit, it was concluded that arsenic intoxication poses no risk to human health.Article Heavy Metal Levels in Mussels (Unio Stevenianus Krynicki) Obtained From Van Lake(Scientific Technical Research Council Turkey, 2000) Yarsan, E; Bilgili, A; Türel, IThe aim of this study was to evaluate heavy metal levels in mussels (Unio stevenianus Krynicki) obtained from Van Lake. A total of 120 samples representing each of the four seasons was collected between 01.01.1994 and 01.01.1995. The organic parts of the samples were ashed with a mixture of magnesium oxide and magnesium nitrate according to the dry ashing method and arsenic residues were measured by silver diethyldithyocarbamate in UV spectrophotometer; copper, cadmium, zinc and lead levels were also determined using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. In the analysis of the 120 samples for residues of heavy mettals, the average values were found to be: 1.43+/-0.81 ppm for lead, 0.09+/-0.02 ppm for cadmium, 5.83+/-0.73 ppm for copper, 15.93+/-3.26 ppm for zinc and 0.06+/-0.05 ppm for arsenic. Evaluation of the study results showed that these heavy metal levels were within the normal ranges for our country and other country's acceptable limits.Article Organochlorine Pesticide Residues in Human Breast Milk From Agricultural Regions of Turkey, 1995-1996(Springer, 1997) Cok, I; Bilgili, A; Ozdemir, M; Ozbek, H; Bilgili, N; Burgaz, S
