Article Assessing Oral Cancer Awareness Among Dental Students in Van Province, Turkey(Marmara Univ, inst Health Sciences, 2024) Talmac, Ayse Gul Oner; Keser, Gaye; Pekiner, Filiz Namdar; Fahrzadeh, NihalObjective: The aim of this study was to assess and compare oral cancer awareness among 3rd year and 5th year undergraduate dental students in Faculty of Dentistry, Van Y & uuml;z & uuml;nc & uuml; Y & imath;l University. Method: A validated questionnaire testing oral cancer awareness was distributed to third and fifth year dental students at Faculty of Dentistry, Van Y & uuml;z & uuml;nc & uuml; Y & imath;l University. A total of 140 students participated in this survey. Knowledge of oral cancer risk factors and diagnostic procedures, dental students' attitudes towards oral cancers, management practices related to oral cancer and sources of oral cancer information were evaluated using 25 questions. The level of significance was set at p<.05. Results: Among the 140 participating dental students, there were 70 (50.%) third-year and 70 (50%) fifth-year students. The responses of 3rd grade students were significantly lower than 5th grade students in evaluating tobacco use, chewing maras grass and primary oral lesions as risk factors. The rate of 3rd grade students identifying leukoplakia and erythroplakia as the two lesions with the highest susceptibility to carcinogenesis (54.5%) was statistically significantly lower than that of 5th grade students (87.0%). The rate of 3rd grade students (35.9%) identifying squamous cell carcinoma as the most common form of oral cancer was statistically significantly lower than that of 5th grade students (84.1%). Conclusion: This study emphasized the importance of improved training methods for dentistry in oral cancer detection and prevention. As the oral cancer expertise of graduating dental students advances, so does the number of dentists who are informed and competent in delivering proper oral cancer therapy to their patients. In this study, 5th-grade students were shown to be more aware of oral cancer than 3rd-grade students.Doctoral Thesis Evaluation of Bond Strength Forces of Different Adhesives on Radiotherapy Treated Enamel Surface(2023) Fahrzadeh, Nihal; Tunca, MuratBu tez çalışmasında farklı dozlarda radyasyon uygulanmış mine yüzeyinde bağlanma dayanımı kuvvetlerinin karşılaştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Article Evaluation of the Shear Bond Strength of Various Adhesives on the Surface of Enamel Irradiated With Various Doses of Radiotherapy(Mosby-elsevier, 2024) Fahrzadeh, Nihal; Tunca, MuratIntroduction: We aimed to compare the shear bond strength (SBS) forces on the enamel surface with 2 adhesives after treatment with various radiation doses. Methods: A total of 120 premolars were included in the study. The teeth were randomly divided into 5 main groups (n = 24): negative control (without aging), positive control (with aging), 40 Gy, 60 Gy, and 70 Gy radiation. The 40 Gy, 60 Gy, and 70 Gy groups underwent conventional radiotherapy 5 days a week with a dose of 2 Gy each day. After the radiotherapy, all samples except the negative control group were subjected to thermal cycle aging. In all 5 groups, the specimens were divided into 2 subgroups, and half were bonded using 2 adhesives. After bonding, the universal Shimadzu test device was used to analyze the SBS. After the test, the tooth surfaces were examined under a stereomicroscope to determine the adhesive remnant index. Results: When adhesives were compared, Biofix adhesive's bond strength value was statistically higher in the 40 Gy group than in the Transbond XT group (P = 0.001). The SBS value was higher in all irradiated groups than in nonirradiated groups (P = 0.001). When the adhesive remnant index score was analyzed, no significant difference was found among the groups. Conclusions: The SBS increased in irradiated teeth compared with unirradiated teeth, and the SBS values of both adhesives were within the acceptable limits in all radiation groups. Materials and Methods: From the Invisalign (R) clear aligner system database, 120 individuals were divided into three groups according to Angle classification: dental class I (n=43), dental class II (n=49), and dental class III (n=28) malocclusions. The Bolton analysis data and the IPR amounts determined by Align Technology's digital treatment planning interface, ClinCheck, were evaluated separately for the maxilla and mandible for each individual. A discrepancy was defined as the condition in which the Bolton ratio the software determined and the suggested IPR amount for the anterior ratio and the overall ratio exceeded 2 mm. The average anterior Bolton ratio and suggested anterior Bolton ratio, along with the total Bolton ratio and suggested total Bolton ratio for all individuals, were compared using Cronbach's alpha. Results: It was determined that the average suggested anterior Bolton ratio for individuals with class I malocclusion was higher than that for individuals with other malocclusions (p=0.008). Cronbach's alpha for the anterior Bolton ratio and the suggested anterior Bolton ratio was 0.131 whereas the overall ratio and the suggested overall Bolton ratio value were determined to be 0.41. Both values are defined as indicating weak reliability. Conclusion: A weak reliability relationship was detected between the Bolton values obtained with the ClinCheck software and the IPR suggestions provided in treatment planning.
